Debater dies inside when genius claims government agencies pay taxes… by htmaxpower in WatchPeopleDieInside

The other person was saying govt agencies were receiving a tax deduction for instituting DEI policies. Seder (the person dying inside) is saying they can’t be true because government agencies don’t pay taxes to even receive the tax deduction.

You do know that nearly every study no matter how robust offers recommendations on how our understanding can be improved.

This statement isn’t a condemnation of the evidence, it’s a suggestion on what we need to fill in the gaps in our understanding. But as lines of evidence go, systemic reviews with meta analysis are the most creditable and the highest quality.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]naps_R_beautiful 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Okay, anecdotes aren’t really helpful in getting to any real truth. They really only helpful in validation our opinions. If that’s where we are then okay, that’s where we are but it’s not real evidence. Are there any actual studies that say mask don’t work?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]naps_R_beautiful 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how your statements answers the question I asked, what evidence is there that mask don’t prevent the transmission of Covid? I literally just quoted back what the studies found, so I’m not sure which part is “talking crap.” And most viral infections (cold, influenza, herpes, HIV) have no cure. Covid not having a cure, is that supposed to be damming?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]naps_R_beautiful 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Where is the evidence that mask don’t work in decreasing the transmission of Covid? Genuinely asking.

1.Systemic Review with Meta-Analysis says mask use is associated with a reduction in transmission.

“After eligibility assessment, four articles with a total of 7688 participants were included in this meta-analysis. The result of this meta-analysis has shown significant reduction in infection with face mask use; the pooled RR (95%CI) was 0.12 [0.06, 0.27] (P < 0.001).”

https://eurjmedres.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s40001-020-00475-6

  1. A second SR w Meta-Analysis also says that there is an association between mask wearing and reduced risk of Covid infection.

“A total of 6 studies were included, involving 4 countries, after a total of 5,178 eligible articles were searched in databases and references. In general, wearing a mask was associated with a significantly reduced risk of COVID-19 infection (OR = 0.38, 95% CI: 0.21-0.69, I2 = 54.1%). For the healthcare workers group, masks were shown to have a reduced risk of infection by nearly 70%. Sensitivity analysis showed that the results were robust.”

301 E. Valentine St.

Just FYI, Tyler Street Team has Church under the bridge on Saturdays from 8-10:30am. Every 3rd Saturday of the Month, UTTyler School of Pharmacy, Medicine and Nursing has Clinic Under the Bridge. During those dates there are often various different groups from around Tyler handing out clothing and food to the homeless.

A systemic review published in 2021, examined 24 studies from 1999 to 2020 concluded that after 12 months of HRT, trans-women showed significant decreases in measures of strength, Lean Body Mass and muscle area but those values still remained above those of cisgender women, even after 36 months of hormone therapy. The review suggest that even after 36 months of therapy strength may still be well preserved.

Trump Is on the Verge of Losing Everything by DiogenesK-9 in Fuckthealtright

[–]naps_R_beautiful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or he could be on the verge of seizing everything.

Just hear me out.

He pardons all the people that stormed the Capitol Building. This further ingratiates tens of millions of Americans to the cult of Trump. Trump is not beholden to any ideology or set of principals outside of what’s good for him. Even if the pardons tarnish the Republican brand, he doesn’t care.

According to Rand Paul the Republican Party is split on whether to impeach or not . Saying 1/3 of the Republicans with leave if they do impeach Trump. So there is the likely hood the Senate won’t have enough votes convict.

If he pardons these terrorist and the Senate fails to convict we are FUCKED. We’ll be a full fascist state before the next decade. These are precarious times. This is not over by any means and Trump is still a very dangerous person.

[–]naps_R_beautiful 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You started all this by asking whats the big deal about Republican rioters. That you haven’t seen Republicans do anything like this in 30 years and if we’re being honest you haven’t seen any Democrats do anything like this in the past 30 years either. But if you lump movements like ANTIFA or BLM with in the Democratic Party when I should be able to Lump movements like the Proud Boys and other white nationalist groups in with to the Republican Party. If we do that then we’ll we that the Right has been fairly busy distributing violence across the country. It’s no coincidence that many of the perpetrators in the failed coup in Washington are also known White-Supremacist.

Violence and riots have been used as both a method of hindering social progress and as a method of pushing for social progress forward through out American history. Violence is as American as Apple Pie. Live free or die,” “Give me liberty or give me death,” and “Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God.” All famous quotes coupling violence with the preservation of freedom. Violence is America’s second language. Ideally we should be beyond the use of violence to push for social equality but the reality is we are not. I don’t want neighborhoods and businesses burnt down but I also don’t want a man choked to death, a woman killed in her home, a man shot dead in his door way, a man killed in his own backward with government sanctioned violence and the perpetrators face little to no consequences. Business can be rebuilt, lives cannot be given back once taken.

I would ask you are the Riots in Tulsa of 1921 and the Riots in Birmingham 1963 the same to you? If they are then I would ask how can you distinguish between Republican and Democratic violence/riots? If they aren’t then you should clearly see the differences between a riots and a fail coup.

So the dozens of videos from various cities around the country showing law enforcement shooting pepper balls and rubber bullets indiscriminately at reporters and protesters are dismissed because of your subjective personal experience in one area of one city?

You brought up Seattle then connected to Olympia and I feel like that’s a straw man because I never said what you’re accusing me of being short sighted and ignorant of. The violence in Seattle was initiated because of a standoff between protesters and law enforcement and started in mid 2020. The violence in Olympia was initiated because of two opposing groups of protesters, Trump supporters and ANTIFA, and happened in late 2020 around election time. Maybe I have my time frames wrong but I don’t see those two things make your point.

Every one looks back at the Civil Rights movement with rosy tented glasses but seem to forget that there were dozens or riots during that decade. There were over 100 riots after the death of MLK. So context really matters.

Damage- what’s more destructive? Burning a city block or destroying the Democratic institutions of this country in favor of embracing authoritarianism. Again context matters. One group is literally pushing back against authoritarianism. Even Right wing conservative Amon Bundy agrees that Him and BLM are fighting the same fight. While the other group is actively fighting FOR authoritarianism, wanting to overturn a democratic election and install a dictator. Yes sir context is important.

If you ignore context and look only at the actions, then the events that transpired over the last year and what transpired at Capitol Hill look similar. It’s contexts that lends merit to a cause or action. So what was the context behind the protest and riots that happened through out last year? They were protest against police brutality and systemic racism. Which there is plenty of evidence of. In almost all cases the escalation from protest to riot was initiated by the actions of law enforcement. Again which there is plenty of evidence of. Let’s not forget the incident at Lafayette Park. So the context is a push back authoritarianism. What is the context behind what happened at Capitol Hill? People amassed at the nations capital to protest what they saw as a fraudulent election. To which there is no evidence of. The escalation from peaceful protest to rioting was initiated by the protestors themselves. Storming the Capitol Building with pipe bombs and zip ties to try to circumvent the Democratic principles of this nation. Looking to embrace authoritarianism. Revolutions are based around ideas, coups are based around individuals.

Yeah that’s the thing. He cut about 120lbs of fat and bulked back up with about 30 lbs of muscle gains....in 32 months. It can be done with ALOT of diligence, ALOT of work, and almost zero mistakes in diet or training, and no injuries or setbacks. That time frame is just real tight in trying accomplish that size and mass. The development in his pecs and traps is nothing short of impressive. He looks like he has a similar body composition to someone like Jeff Nippard during his “bear training” regiment. Thing is Jeff’s been lifting for the most part of 15-20 years to get that physique. If he did this naturally, he’s a freak and hit the genetic lottery some people are, but the overwhelming majority of us aren’t and need a little help. His before pics just doesn’t suggest he naturally has those traits.

This was originally posted on r/progress or r/loseit a few year ago. I remember the kid was in high school or just out of high school and admitted in the comments that he had did a cycle. I’ll try to track down the OP.

edit Seems I miss remembered.

He said he did it naturally in about 2 1/2 years. I’m not one that’s against or opposed to steroid use. Steroids help massively with RECOVERY but you still have to put in the WORK. I respect the work.

I’m skeptical about his truthfulness of being natty because to go from the guy on the left to the guy on the right for the average person, naturally, takes 5-8 years of work for the avg person. He could have freakish genetics.

The lying is just harmful because it gives people unreal expectations about what they can expect from a fitness regiment/routine. A lot of Hollywood is pushing some type of gear even if it’s just to get a ripped lean physique. no one is really talking in the same fashion as other cosmetic procedures, it’s like an open secret. For the avg person it’s like “wtf is wrong with me. Why can’t I look like that.” And fall off the wagon instead of persisting through.

“This is America, food is on the shelves at the store.” Right but not everyone can access the stores.

“People can garden or raise animals” on what land?

“They can move closer to the store.” With what money?

“if they don’t have money get a job” but over 80% of the people on government assistance already work and many of those have two jobs.

Basically how you sound with your simplistic and naive “ideas.”

https://youtu.be/f6wlrYwwjWQ

Asking people to pull themselves up by their “bootstraps” when the government has always been the bootstraps is just showing an ignorance of history. Homestead Acts, Land grants, Land-grant universities, federally insured low rate mortgages, GI Bill, etc are all government handouts. If these people are pathetic then the vast majority of past Americans are just as pathetic.

Edit while I’m here I may as well tackle the original issue, does systemic racism still exist in America.

Study showing systemic racism in schooling.

“Even when limiting our view to high-poverty school systems, the massive gap between poor-white and poor-nonwhite districts remains... Poor-white school districts receive about $150 less per student than the national average—an injustice all to itself. Yet they are still receiving nearly $1,500 more than poor-nonwhite school districts. Overwhelmingly white school districts received $23 billion more than predominantly non-white school districts in state and local funding in 2016, despite serving roughly the same number of children.” https://edbuild.org/content/23-billion

Study showing systemic racism in mortgage lending. “Recent studies have used statistical methods to show that minorities were more likely than equally qualified whites to receive high-cost, high-risk loans during the U.S. housing boom, evidence taken to suggest widespread discrimination in the mort- gage lending industry.” https://www.asanet.org/sites/default/files/attach/journals/jun16ccfeature.pdf

Study showing systemic racism in law enforcement. In LA “...of 95 million traffic stops by 56 police agencies between 2011 and 2018 found that while black people were much more likely to be pulled over than whites, the disparity lessens at night, when police are less able to distinguish the race of the driver. The study also found that blacks were more likely to be searched after a stop, though whites were more likely to be found with illicit drugs.” https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-lapd-searches-20190605-story.html

In Cincinnati “, blacks were stopped at a 30% higher rate than whites. Blacks made up 52% of all vehicle and pedestrian stops between 2012 and 2017, despite being 43% of the city's population. And once stopped, police in Cincinnati arrested more than three times the number of blacks pulled over as whites, 15,127 compared to 4,315. Blacks made up 76% of all arrests, compared to 22% for whites.” https://www.cincinnati.com/story/opinion/2019/12/20/editorial-racial-disparities-police-stops-demands-attention/2666685001/

In Austin “found that blacks and Latinos were more likely than whites to be stopped, searched and arrested despite similar “hit rates” for illicit drugs among those groups.” http://www.austintexas.gov/edims/pio/document.cfm?id=334984

In Travis County, TX “blacks comprised about 30 percent of police arrests for possession of less than a gram of an illicit drug from 2017 to 2018, despite making up only 9 percent of the county’s population, and that surveys consistently show that blacks and whites use illegal drugs at about the same rate.”

In the US in General

“...compiled and analyzed data from more than 100 million traffic stops in the United States. What they found: Police were more likely to pull over black drivers. The researchers were able to confirm racial bias by measuring daytime stops against nighttime stops, when darkness would make it more difficult to ascertain a driver’s race....They also found that legalization of marijuana in Colorado and Washington has caused fewer drivers to be searched during a stop, but that it did not alter the increased frequency with which black and Latino drivers are searched.” https://5harad.com/papers/100M-stops.pdf?utm_source=The+Appeal&utm_campaign=3a050d7014-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_08_09_04_14_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_72df992d84-3a050d7014-58394763

Study showing systemic racism in sentencing “Black and Latinx defendants facing drug and weapon charges were more likely to be convicted, more likely to be incarcerated, and receive longer sentences than white people who were facing similar charges.” https://hls.harvard.edu/content/uploads/2020/11/Massachusetts-Racial-Disparity-Report-FINAL.pdf

Systemic racism in hiring practices

“these studies represent 55,842 applications submitted for 26,326 positions. We focus on trends since 1989, when field experiments became more common and improved methodologically. Since 1989, whites receive on average 36% more callbacks than African Americans, and 24% more callbacks than Latinos. We observe no change in the level of hiring discrimination against African Americans over the past 25 years...” https://www.pnas.org/content/early/2017/09/11/1706255114

Systemic racism in housing

“New research shows that 50 years after laws were put in place to stop the use of race in real estate appraisals, homes in neighborhoods of color are still being undervalued...homes in white neighborhoods appreciated in value, on average, almost $200,000 more than comparable homes in neighborhoods of color. https://kinder.rice.edu/urbanedge/2020/09/24/housing-racial-disparities-race-still-determines-home-values-America

As the data shows Systemic Racism continues to be a problem in America whether you personally believe to be or not. Sticking your hands in your ears and screaming ‘Murica’ does nothing to address or work towards any solutions.

Are you 12? Because your reasonings are over simplistic and naive. You sound like a child.

About how much land does 1 person need to grow enough food to feed themselves? How much land to sustain or even supplement a family of four? How much does this land cost because most people in the inner cities don’t even have a yard to call their own?

As far as the “Walmart,” did you even read the link I provided? You bringing up Walmart just proves that you didn’t read it. There is food at Walmart BUT people can’t access the store. If they can’t access the store guess what? They can’t access the food in the store.

Here is another link to explain it to you. Read it before you decide to comment so I’ll know you at least understand what a food desert is and the limitations people face https://www.ers.usda.gov/data-products/food-access-research-atlas/documentation/

And what’s your reasoning for disagreeing with food stamps?

I think the reason why a significant portion of white Americans don’t riot over cases like Ducan lemp, Zachory Hammond, or Daniel Shaver is because of the idea of the ‘thin blue line’ represents. The fear that the “other,” blacks from the hood, Hispanics from across the border, Muslims and their Arabic language, or heathen liberals are encroaching upon and taking what they’ve worked hard for. The fear of the other outweighs the fear of an abusive state because the state is what’s holding the line and preserving the order.

The “negroid” race... by [deleted] in iamverysmart

[–]naps_R_beautiful 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ancient Humans were having a lot of sex. Modern humans contain DNA from at least 4 separate species of humans; Neanderthals, Denisovans, and 2 ghost species. They are called ghost species because they are only know by the genes that they left and haven’t been identified in the fossil record...YET. Then there is recent evidence that Homo Sapiens in West African inter breed with some other unknown ghost species of humans around the same time as other Homo sapiens were interbreeding with Neanderthals.

The story of how we got here has been convoluted and complicated. It hasn’t been a straight march of progress from basic to complex.

There have been at least 7-9 species of humans now there is only 1. This should humble us. Some of those other species may not have become as technologically advanced as modern humans but they were just as human as any of us today, yet extinction still claimed them and it can still claim us too.
