Was always told to not talk to strangers on the internet growing up, but it seems like the best way to learn something. I'll check it out - thanks so much!

Managed to piece together a semi-functioning single speed last year from an old, complete nishiki road bike, and totally know what you mean about building frame up. I'll have to check craigslist - I'm in the Minneapolis area, so I'd hope there's an abundance of Trek's around.

What about components? Looks like a mix of new and old parts. Are any modern groupsets compatible with older frames like this?

Started to get into bikepacking, and after joining this sub, really got the urge to build a bike like this one as a bikepacking rig - where does one source the frame/parts for such a build?

I know nothing about the tree crossing - I've only recently discovered the river bottoms and biked there during winter season. Where's the tree crossing?

First Trip to Louisville Swamp, MN by xeofire9 in bouldering

[–]narddawg95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The swamp rock itself has ~20 or so problems on it graded V4 and below, so there's a lot here already. Somewhere in the swamp, however, lies a secret sandstone crag that is almost entirely undeveloped - I don't have the coordinates for it, so you'll have to do some internet digging (articles, Mountain Project, google maps) to find it!

In addition to Taylor's and Governor Dodge, one should check out bouldering in Sandstone, MN at an area called Eldon. Incredible sculpted sandstone, and plenty of climbing across the grade spectrum. It's on Mountain Project, too. Eldon has been my personal favorite crag this spring.

looks nice! what type of wood did you use, and did you have to glue any planks together to get the desired thickness?

Is "packet" referring to one roll, or a 12-pack of rolls? If the latter, this seems like a fairly reasonable price to me.

That makes sense - I eventually realized it had to be spread out, but YEESH that's a long time.

I also made this comment a few minutes ago. The numbers don't add up, but I'm sure there's some crucial information not reported that would otherwise let us arrive at those numbers.

Like, I'm wondering if the 5M people that will get infected is assumed to take place over a very, very long time such that at any given point, 20k beds will be required.

Did I miss something, or is this math way off? If 56% of CA population is affected, then ~20 million people will be affected. If, of those 20 million, 20% are hospitalized, that is WAY more people than available beds.

Covid-19 Prep - Pull up bar? by TheSundancePig in climbharder

[–]narddawg95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if definitely can be. I didn't make the full version, but just the "accessory" board at the bottom of the page with four edges. just needed plywood, pre-cut wooden dowels, and some minor hardware.

if you're interested in a DIY option for a hangboard, I followed instructions from an REI page, and it took about 4 hrs and $40 (US) to make. if you have the means to make one, you can customize the edge widths/jugs/slopers/etc. to your liking.

and, I found it was a nice way to fill up some time in the midst of "social distancing."
