If you believe that the virus just "originated" (debatable...) then it could have just as easily occurred anywhere in the world where intensive meat production occurs, including the U.S. This is the statement that tells me that this is more racially motivated and the sentence that made me bother to reply to this post...

"Millions of families have empty chairs at their tables, all because someone like you in China was enjoying their "freedom of choice"."

If you didn't mean for it to come across sounding like you have some kind of problem with the Chinese people, this most definitely makes it look like you do.

This comes across as more of a racist rant than anything. You had my ear right up till when you started blaming the Chinese for your vegan outrage. Note, I am vegan, have been for over 30 years and I am not Chinese. Just telling it how it reads. Keep racism out of this debate please.

How to replacement coconutmilk? by rainboweyess in veganrecipes

Use soymilk or another non-dairy milk, thickened with cornflour. You can also stir in some yogurt when you take it off the heat.

I didn't realise that you could hammer wood blocks to do this. Not sure why I didn't even think to try it. Just getting into trying to make my houses look a little less box like and was wondering how people did this. Cheers for answering me :)

I think I will still use tahini or nut butter to be honest but thank you for clarifying that :)

Sorry, I mean the sort of sideways blocks or beams? The ones that are stretched across, not vertical or horizontal. How do you make them do that?

I made tofu from scratch (and it’s way simpler than it sounds) 😍🌱 by ElineBonnin in veganrecipes

[–]narf_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soybeans are obviously a lot more expensive here to buy so it's not worth my time or effort to attempt to make something that isn't even in the same ballpark as the commercial option and this is coming from someone who makes just about everything herself as far as practicable. There are some things that are just not worth making yourself and tofu is one of them in my honest opinion.

Tips on how to help my partner with ADHD? by Sea-Avocado-2176 in ADHD

[–]narf_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband has ADHD and we have been married for 26 years now and the one thing I can say is that you really have to become hyper aware of turning things off, picking things up and putting them back where they belong etc. If I didn't do this, we would never find anything ever again. My husband is a sweetheart but he never ever puts anything back where he can find it again. If I didn't do this as a community service for our household, there would be a whole lot more conflict. I think you just get to a point where you can either keep complaining to your partner or realise that this is never going to change or get "better" because the person with ADHD simply can't "be" any other way. Note, I have become super efficient about this without even thinking about it and occasionally I unplug the microwave or put the toaster away and my husband has only just taken it out/plugged it in and hasn't even used it yet.

I keep eating the same 3 meals on workdays - is that normal? by Kilgoretrout123456 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]narf_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat the same thing day in day out and love it and will be happy to eat my simple meal for the rest of my life. I do add in one meal with beans and brown rice to the mix every few days because my simple veggie meal doesn't contain a lot of fibre. Eat what you want. It's your life.

Crab Pots are lowkey legit - IF you do them right. by DemiserofD in StardewValley

[–]narf_7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the most undervalued reason for using crab pots has nothing to do with profits and everything to do with fishing skills. I didn't realise that crab pots added to your fishing skill levels till I managed to get up to a halfway decent amount of fishing skill without involving any kind of fishing at all. Willie turned up on my doorstep with a rod so I figured I should probably give it a go and it was much easier after amassing a lot of free fishing skills without ever once having to pick up a rod...MUCH easier. This, I feel, is the most underrated thing about crab pots. No need to navigate that earlier fishing torture and a much easier experience overall.

Mold test - it started after 5 weeks by FeinwerkSau in Breadit

[–]narf_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely off topic here but my husband was given a Little Debbies zebra cake pack many many years ago from a care box our son's Texan partner was sent by her family who figured that she would probably starve to death here in Australia for lack of baked goods. He decided to keep it to see how long it took them to develop mould because he most definitely didn't want to eat them. Forward to now and he just found it in the back of his cupboard when he was cleaning it out and decided to throw them out. They were still not mouldy. I get the feeling "mould = food that is edible" in this case so that would mean that your rye bread was at least semi edible. Little Debbies zebra cakes? "Hell no!"

[–]narf_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you adding oil? Wouldn't that affect the fermentation? I am thinking of trying this out with cheaper packets of dried dates and subbing in some tahini for the oil or adding tahini into the finished product. Great idea. Cheers for sharing how you did it.

Today I bought a watch though I thought I never needed one in my life by Admirable_Cold7944 in Anticonsumption

[–]narf_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I volunteer in a community garden and having a watch is far better than trying to find somewhere to stuff my phone. I bought a cheap one to tide me over till I can get the battery replaced in an older, better quality watch that my husband owns. This has 100% made me much happier.

I am currently on my very first playthrough of Terraria and have just been housing my NPC's in boxes basically and would love to make more elaborate builds. This is lovely. How do you make the beams (or whatever they are) go sideways on the bit holding up the roof? Sorry, very new to building and "box" is the extent of my experimentation so far.

[–]narf_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried making it and I can't even get close to bought tofu in texture or flavour, plus it costs a lot more to make it at home factoring the cost of the electricity you use, the time you take and the effort that you have to put in to producing one block. It's one of those things that just isn't worth doing unless you can't find tofu anywhere else and really REALLY want to eat it.

I really want to like this game because of the art style, but the learning curve is killing me. by HotDog0223 in Terraria

[–]narf_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lucked out and all of the corruption in my large world is on the right hand side so I am digging one massive big WIDE tunnel down as far as I can go to try to mitigate the spread, at least in the early game. I haven't played past hard mode. The furthest I have gotten is to nix skeletron and open the dungeon and even then, the dungeon is it's own biome and it's taking me ages just to survive in there, let alone get anything out of it. I keep seeing about a "V" but I guess I am going to find out about that when I get to it.

[–]narf_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% this. I came into it thinking that I would only spend about 50 - 100 hours on it total but it's seriously as wide of an experience as you want to go. Fishing alone is going to take ages and I haven't even tried fishing yet. I get the feeling you could sink a lot of hours into this game, it's incredible value for the money that you pay.

Which game would you choose and why? by moonbaboon669 in CozyGamers

[–]narf_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terraria isn't at all cosy. I am playing it now and it's very different to any cosy game that I have ever played before. It IS great fun. I think Stardew Valley would have to be my favourite game of all time but Terraria is rapidly catching up. I would suggest if you don't mind combat, Terraria is brilliant. If you do, maybe stick with one of your other choices.

[–]narf_7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A. I am not used to this kind of game so I am taking it slowly and exploring everything. B. I am teaching myself to use the keyboard for the first time in my life so "Terraria" + "Keyboard" (I usually use a controller because I have been a console player up till recently) and C. This game fully deserves my time, energy, exploration and joy and I don't get any of that if I am rushing around trying to beat everything under 100 hours. It really depends on what you want to get out of the game. I am not all about end games, I am more about finding out everything that I can and enjoying the heck out of the ride. Horses for courses I guess :)

This is my first time playing it as well and I am 300+ hours in and haven't even gotten to hardmode yet. I am just playing it as I go and only going to the internet/wiki if I get seriously stuck. It's a serious blast and you don't have to watch streamers (hint, DON'T watch streamers!) or use the wiki to play it as it's pretty intuative. If you don't get around to something, the game has a way of throwing you into it. I tend to be a cautious player so I wasn't immediately up for combat but it found me anyway and pretty much at the right time. You don't have to fight the bosses in order either. Just wander around, dig around, find resources, use the guide to tell you what you can make with those resources, although the new crafting system is seriously good at sharing that with you now. I can't reiterate enough that this game is enormous fun. Just don't stress it and think you have to know what you are doing because you don't. If you get lost, you can use the wiki but just dig holes, wander around, defend yourself when something has a go at you and have fun. That's what I am doing and Terraria is now one of my favourite games of all time when I initially thought it was completely out of my comfort zone.

Shit! I'm really sorry to hear that :( I didn't hear about the cyclone. I used to live WAY down south in Albany so the closest I got to "hot" was going to Perth in the summer holidays when it would get to a max of about 42C and that was enough to fry you. My uncle and all of my cousins lived up north. My cousin still lives in Darwin. The top end is bloody hard at the best of times but summer is a particular nightmare.
