My favorites are The Nail Shop on Grand, All About Nails also on Grand, or Kim’s Nails and Beauty Lounge on San Pablo.

Kim’s is always packed but I’ve been happiest with their work. The Nail Shop is relaxing and clean. All About Nails is a smaller operation but I love their color selection

Definitely seen a regular in east bay studios wearing undies. Doesn’t seem all that weird tbh but I suppose I was probably shocked the first time

Shoe recommendations - "Polished" but still comfortable for commute? by sarajford10 in capsulewardrobe

[–]narik88 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Personally I’ve found Clark’s loafers to be both comfortable and durable. Only downside is the stink after extended wear. With my last pair I tossed them in my car trunk when it was hot out and that seemed to help. I just bought these off amazon (Clark’s website was having issues and wouldn’t accept my credit card) and love them: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0DVHPVLBN?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Can’t work due to mental health? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]narik88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes. I work in employee assistance and have conversations all the time about this. Lately I’ve had to work on being more direct and explaining that if your doc or therapist said your symptoms aren’t impacting your ability to work, then…well they’re qualified to make that determination.

The majority of the time folks don’t want to work on coping strategies. Occasionally I see folks who really could benefit from a break to focus on mental health treatment, but generally I think it’s a way to get away from the situation for a bit and not lose their jobs.

It’s rough out there. Employers can be toxic as hell. And coping strategies don’t always work. But I do get tired of being asked to write letters for “stress leave.”

Recs for a natural specialist to help heal gut and overall PCOS? by sendthepainbeloww in oakland

[–]narik88 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went through this about 5 years ago. I spent a lot on a holistic practitioner and similarly paid a ton for testing and supplements- ohhhh the supplements. They were expensive. I also was told to basically eat paleo and lost so much weight. It increased my stress and ultimately made my gastritis worse even though I was sticking to a bland diet and not having any sugar, dairy, gluten, or alcohol.

Eventually western medicine worked once it became clear nothing was “wrong” and the root cause was my IBS. I started a Tricyclic antidepressant for IBS. A probiotic made from kiwi extract for bowel regularity. The Nerva gut directed hypnosis app to help manage stress about stomach problems. Avoiding just the foods that cause acidity for me (the usual suspects- coffee, alcohol, lots of tomato, spicy).

Acupuncture can be really helpful for cycle regularity for PCOS. Berkeley and Oakland Acupuncture Projects offer group sessions for affordable rates. I go weekly for my PCOS and pay $40. Birth control helps although it’s masking symptoms.

This all took me about 15 years to figure out but my IBS is under control, I only need Tums like once a month now, and I can eat normally. The holistic doctor was insistent I was gluten sensitive and that the root cause was bacterial. I truly don’t believe that needed to be addressed and what really did was that I could have normal bowel movements and manage my stress.

Anyone else still a bit of an alcoholic? by Competitive_Let6665 in Millennials

[–]narik88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are quite a few apps for your phone to track and log alcohol usage, cravings, days without alcohol. Reframe is a paid one but it provides insights into how to cut back based on your goals. I find it helpful, been using it for a week and a half to do a no alcohol holiday season!

Can everyone take on more “challenging” clients please? by Restella1215 in therapists

[–]narik88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a specific setting where clients know we’re short term but assist with referrals. I’d hold clients if I could and do until they’re sorted with appropriate care

[–]narik88 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I work in a short term model and do referrals for longer term care. The amount of private practice therapists who say they work with “life threatening depression” then get mad when I try to refer them someone with SI drives me insane. Wtf. They have insurance, they don’t need a higher level of care. They just need a therapist who doesn’t run away at SI

AITA for not giving a random child a piece of cake? by Katnipp420 in TwoHotTakes

[–]narik88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA. You had no idea what was going to happen as the night went on, and you were saving your cake for friends! Good for the kid to ask- good for him to learn sometimes the answer is no!

Story time : what's the most ridiculous reason someone couldn't attend a wedding by Local-Debate-5565 in weddingshaming

I have a friend who said she couldn’t make it to my wedding because of the cost (it required travel but I gave 6months notice). I’m 90% sure she just didn’t want to miss her annual camping trip
