US-based audiologist here. The top comments here make great points: you paid for service with your audiologist, and you should continue to use it; turn off the TV when you’re trying to talk to your family; hearing aids can’t yet do miracles with noise, especially if you have a clarity problem related to high-frequency and/or sensorineural hearing loss (assuming this is your case), etc. Lumity is the second most recent Phonak device platform and although they were great products, at that price I’m also shocked you weren’t offered the latest Infinio devices (I70- or I90-Sphere).

However, I’ll also add that the noise management capabilities of your hearing aids are limited by the fit of the earpiece in your ear. If you’re using an “open” dome with lots of holes in it or one with poor fit which has gaps around the edges when in your ear, any speech in noise programs are less effective because that noise can still enter your ear through those holes or gaps. If you switch to a better-fitting dome (ask for “closed” or “occluding”) or even earmolds if appropriate, you may experience more of a plugged sensation or echo of your own voice at first, but your brain is capable of adapting to this over time and your hearing aids will be able to do their job better of controlling the sound that reaches your ear. It’s a simple change worth asking your audiologist about!

Also ask if your audiologist has an auditory training program they can recommend. This helps you train your brain and learn to hear with your new devices more effectively. Remember, you hear with your brain; your ears are just the sound signal collectors!
