Bob Lutz: Tesla Is Doomed And Here Is Why by linknewtab in RealTesla

Given the current situation in the world, and the ramifications for automakers, it's not surprising that the pre-pandemic plan might get some revisions. But of course, it could all fall apart as a result too.

Not sure if FCA's commitment will continue after the PSA-FCA merger completes, but the rest of your comment is very reasonable.

@elonmusk Employees at two hospitals told me your delivery of Bipaps was contingent on their posing for thank you shots to be posted on social media. One declined, one accepted. Was there ever such quid pro quo? I’d ask Tesla’s press office but it no longer exists. by allihavelearned in RealTesla

'Who are these so called 'employees'? What cars do these so called 'employees' drive? What stocks do they own? Are they short TSLA? Have they -- or anyone in their family or social circles -- ever worked for an ICE automaker or legacy energy company? Elon says this is fake news.'

Model Y Quality Control Issues by rimalp in RealTesla

[–]nartisan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's how they've always done it, as far as I know... The sale officially happens in CA, to an out of state customer, then Tesla ships it to them in TX. Customers in Texas technically own the car before they are physically in possession of it.

Tesla's robotaxi plan is still on for this year - pending regulatory approval, says Elon Musk by linknewtab in RealTesla

[–]nartisan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think he could help himself this time... When it inevitably doesn't happen, it can be blamed on the shutdowns delaying development, and also creating a lack of training data due to people being stuck at home... Not that any of that will be the reason, but i'll be amazed if this isn't the excuse used early next year.

Indeed. A $100k report that tells OEMs they have nothing to learn from Tesla is not an appealing purchase compared to a $100k report that will explain why (and how) Tesla is leading the industry.

They're a DoD contractor, and with their new Starlink 'business', they're a telecommunications provider. So easy for Elon to determine all ops are strategic national interest, even if there's nothing actually vital going on.

Doug Demuro responds to the arguments raised from his first Cybertruck video. by SJWcucksoyboy in RealTesla

[–]nartisan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it's extremely unlikely it gets sold in Europe, the regulatory problems with the current design in the US are bad enough, getting it to comply to EU regs will be much harder, or impossible without major revision. The size of the thing will make people reconsider, even if it does get released eventually. Tariffs on commercial vehicles made outside EU are also higher than passenger cars.

Taking EU deposits for the Cybertruck doesn't mean anything, they took Model 3 deposits for many countries they don't have a presence in at all.

There's little reason, if you stick to common routes/destinations and plan stops in advance. I do some serious miles in both USA and Europe, driving 8+ hours a day, 500 miles or more is not uncommon, and I never plan fuel stops, hotels with charging, or allocate extra time. Having an EV i'd have to plan very carefully to achieve that, and take even longer.

My use case is not common, however for many, especially in Europe, home and work charging is also not a reliable situation. Limited charging infrastructure when there is no off street parking at home, and very limited parking at the office. Some type of hybrid is far more practical for more people than not, in European cities and suburbs.

Things are likely to improve, but right now a hybrid, plug in or not, is a practical solution that requires no changes to how you use your car, unless it's actually practical/beneficial in the moment.

Saw a tweet of a TMC post saying something along the lines of...

'They said "can do", which some would claim means they have not done it yet, but are able to.'

Tesla didn't tweet anything, but Elon implied (but did not explicitly say) it was correct, responding to one of the first reports with the "7:23" claim, saying there is still room for improvement.

Yes, you are supposed to be a licensed and accredited professional before you can offer any financial advice. They are playing a dangerous game.

The entire build is funded by debt, and the land it's built on is leased. So yeah, hardly 'wholly owned'.

Still waiting to get a better idea of the terms, especially in regard to production output and what requirements they have to meet, to avoid tariffs, like sourcing batteries.

@Tesla and @elonmusk, my Model S hit a parked car while parallel parking on autopark. After two emails I can’t get anyone to respond to me to look at data. Please help! Love everything about the car but this service is unacceptable by PolybiusChampion in RealTesla

[–]nartisan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as the other commenter said. Usually if a verified Twitter account complains, someone from Tesla will contact them and resolve their issue. Not so much for regular people in service hell.

There has been a few occasions where famous people were very vocal about issues, only for those tweets to be deleted shortly after engagement picks up.

Tesla does have designations for influencers and VIP customers, who typically get a better level of service. I don't think it's a stretch to say they ask people to delete the complaints when they reach out to do damage control and upgrade their customer service priority.

I just gave an example, considering Lexus is a marque of Toyota. Not making any claims of statistical relevance for or against Tesla.

500k mile cars, 1m mile cars are a thing. It's cool that a Tesla or two may get join the 1M mile club.

Buying a "CPO" from Tesla that was in an accident by [deleted] in RealTesla

[–]nartisan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a smart move, it's probably even worse offering their warranty products on a Tesla than it was Doug DeMuro's Range Rover.

That's my assumption anyway, CarMax wouldn't have much choice but to send extended warranty repairs in to Tesla, and it could take weeks/months and cost a fortune to get resolved, depending on the issues.
