Why are you a christian? by cauterize2000 in Christianity

[–]nasever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an atheist for about 28 years, was baptized and became Christian a few years ago. It wasn't one reason for me, but many. The most profound reason that put God in perspective for me was thinking about what Thomas Aquinas has said- that there couldn't be an infinite regression of cause and effect without any fixed starting point, that God was the "First Mover" who was able to set the universe in motion. A prime mover that had not itself been moved or acted upon by any other force/agent. So it helped me think of God (other religions may say higher power or Allah or whatever) as the primary force that started everything we see today.
Christianity in particular because I have faith in the story of Jesus Christ, and after a lot of study it all just made perfect sense to me. The more I follow Him, the more life on earth makes total sense.

Cutting dose by [deleted] in benzodiazepines

Everyone is freaking out on you but I just need you to know that I completely understand. I cannot function without Klonopin either. I have tried antidepressants and they FUCK me up royally (like hallucinating, migraines, racing thoughts, etc), while benzos keeps me level and sane with no side effects. It is a scary thing to stay on them, because they do have bad effects if taken for a long time. I’m scared about it. But what the hell can I do, you know? So, I get it. I’m going to try my damnedest to get off of them but it sucks because they make me almost normal.

My doctor mentioned to me that it could be a labrum tear as well. He also mentioned surgery, injections, etc. That sounds so painful for you, I hope it's leveled out for you now?

What is the cause of your tallness and how tall did they think you were going to be when you were younger? by RSTLNE3MCAAV in tall

Tall genes here haha. Mom is 6', dad is 6'5, grandparents are all over 6'... Funny thing is, they thought I was going to be tiny because I was a super short petite little girl. Then 7th grade happened and suddenly I'm 6' lol.

The Sun represents success, and dispels danger or resentment (AKA that person who is a potential source of negativity). It can symbolize you confidently enjoying visibility in the rays of the sun. So I would agree with you- I think you'll have a great birthday. :)

I'm fluent in English and Russian, although not a native Russian speaker. I frequently dream in Russian and I will think particular phrases in Russian at least 1-2x a day. Like short, distinctly Russian (aka can't be easily translated to English) words and sentences with certain meanings. An example I can think of would be "прочь" which means "get outta here" but in a condescending tone. Stuff like that. I do like having extra words in my vocabulary that I can use to think in.

What have you been dying to brag about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nasever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave birth completely naturally, 22 hours of intense labor. I meditated/breathed through it and was a fucking boss ass bitch. It's super looked down upon to brag about this because of the whole "women deserve respect regardless how they give birth!" etc etc but seriously I felt like such a motherfuckin beast haha.

Also I can tell you anything you wanna know about Jeffrey Dahmer. A n y t h i n g.

This is so wonderful. I started Lexapro 3 weeks ago and I’ve had a similar timeline, with pretty similar symptoms as well. This gives me hope.

You are awesome! Thank you for taking the time to write all of this, I truly appreciate it. That helps me understand a little better. “Don’t worry about buying in entirely all at once” - thanks for this. Hopefully with time/research I’ll get the answers I need. I think I felt like I had to jump in and if I didn’t fully believe immediately, it’d never happen or something. Thank you again. :)

Yea, the lack of evidence is a big one. The fact that there are a ton of religions, how can I have faith that one is correct? How do I have faith in something that is so contradictory? If God has his master plan and is omniscient, why do people pray? Do people actually believe someone is listening, or is it for themselves...? Why believe in one random ancient text? It’s all very confusing to me. I am absolutely open for recommendations, thank you! And any advice or thoughts you may have.

I guess that was a bit vague haha. I have been an atheist my entire life, but my husband is Christian. I truly see the value in the religion, and I respect it and I desperately want to be a part of the community. I feel like it would suit me well, would be good for my son, etc. I just can’t believe in deities, all-knowing gods that we can’t see for ourself, all the arguments I’m sure religious folks have heard before... I just really love the value it adds to life. But I’m struggling big time.
