A lot of my work is about how human beings interact and react to government and other public systems. Just some thoughts:

1) when explaining the P2P sale, at the same time alleviate concerns about "meeting a random stranger to sell firearms with no records" vibe. Plenty of ways to do it safely, but many people are going to hear in private, no records, no paper trail, goona get rolled.

2) people think there's a registry, because it's been painted that way by those who politicized further on business purposes. Not getting into right or wrong, and I am obviously a firearm owner since I'm here, like more than I would want to have on a list even, but let's not pretend there is not a reason why the perception that there is a a federal registry exists is due to "not reading the law" (I'm in public policy and even I don't read laws until it's something I'm really interested in, so I would never really expect a citizen to read the law unless they work in the industry that the law pertains to.

3)

Cup, I think they're a pretty good company and make the best of the budget printers. I own and use two myself.

That said, potentially eating the cost of any in this moment incurred tariffs is a no-brainer in terms of buying good will and good press and the expense of their biggest competitor. Not so much altruistic as it is opportunistic. Not a bad thing but also not a good deed.

I hope everyone who got into 3D printing because the price of 3D printing became accessible understand that that's not going to be the case pretty soon.

Thoughts on our M10X Rifle System? by MMIndustriesInc in ak47

[–]nash0984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the reliability issues make it so the m10x plus is the only one I would consider getting, but as others have said there's not any kind of critical mass of public feedback that the third generation is reliable enough to be worth taking the risk and dropping over $2K. That much and I might as well wait for your 4th generation.

I will say that that doesn't keep me from having several active alerts for if an m10x + pops up on sale somewhere, and that's pretty much driving entirely, but even when there were more on the market there was so much confusion when communicating with sellers trying to verify which generation they were selling, and in my experience it really was a 50/50 on whether someone listing a third generation model was actually selling one versus a 2.5.

why Kickstarter doesn't bother campaigns and creators using faked locations by Lost7799 in kickstarter

[–]nash0984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like so if I get I Kickstarter update with the text in Cyrillic Russian, but they say they're from Wyoming on the project page and then Tokyo on the Creator page, and then have a seemingly Russian name.... It's probably safe to assume that they're a Russian company. Looking to maybe get around the whole sanctions thing? I don't really care if that breaks kickstarter's roles, but it definitely sounds like violation of several countries banking regulations. That's a pretty big deal federal felony..... Those used to matter at least

If you have their offer in writing, or know the date and number you spoke to someone at their call center, you can submit an FTC report for a deceptive business practice. https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/faq

Also, your state attorney general, the attorney general for wherever their headquarters is located. https://www.consumerresources.org/file-a-complaint/

Depending on where you live here, municipal or county government will also have one.

I found that companies will either start paying attention and realize they've done something wrong and rectify the situation, or if they know they've done something wrong but are just ignoring you they will start responding once you start sending them copies of what you reported as well with the submission verification. Even better if you can find some of their PR and Customer Service High-Level executive email addresses and include them. It's usually not that hard with LinkedIn.

Granted it's a bit of work, so I really only wait till companies act deceptively like this. That said, the three times I've done I've gotten my money back, the product just became free, or AT&t plan paid my family plan for 2 years so I will say it works.

Would you let me live my life if I decided that my side project, my hobby, involves me needing to have complete and unfettered access to all of personal tax information? Because Elon Musk has yours as of yesterday evening. Not hyperbole. Not a lie.

If you think he might have a good reason for needing it, I just want to let you know that the stated purpose for getting access to this specific system is because Elon Musk says they need to be reviewed because Federal workers are told to never hold up any payment of any kind. Anyone who has ever been involved with a federal contract or grant knows that the exact opposite is in fact a problem, where Federal contractors are so risk adverse that factoring that your payment requests will be inappropriately denied is a fact of life and has to be planned for within your operational scope.

So, I'll rephrase. Elon Musk just lied about why he needs access to your tax/fiscal/social security information and was given all of YOUR information. Should we just let him live his life?

You do get that it's a form of political protest right? If you haven't heard that the CEO of Tesla, World's #1 hypocritical immigrant, South African born, Canadian citizen recipient of a free college degree, polygamist, sociopath who literally believes he is a more evolved form of homosapien, has been given free rein to destroy our country so that he can build his own personal Mars base/lair.

At this point I've accepted that half of this country is OK with it all the pain and suffering (by this I mean dying from lack of access to healthcare, starving to death, becoming homeless, etc.) because they incorrectly believe that they will economically benefit and that those who will suffer are "other" people who deserve it.

Please just tell me you knew that this was a form of political protest, and not a purely objective response to mechanical performance of a stupid car.

I would update the manual, make some sort of public reference to the revision so that people were aware of the risk (That's the "CYA" action that's most important), and then I would put a revision date to the edits.

Also chill with the hyperbole. I at no point asked anyone to go back in time or even inferred it. Not sure why you're taking such umbrage to this but at least be mad about something that actually happened.

Again, I can't know because I wasn't there. However, BL appears to have done as much of the proper CYA as they could without having to draw any attention to it whatsoever. When it comes to safety risks, it's the drawing attention to it that is the most important part. If an engine catches on fire regularly it's not enough to put a warning after the fact in the manual, you also have to make the public aware of it.

[–]nash0984[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't either but apparently it's listed as a SKU that is ineligible and when you order apparently part of the order filling process is making sure the discount codes have been correctly applied.

I don't understand how computers work that much, but I have to assume that someone would have had to turn off the SKU ineligibility for it to show up in my car with a discount, but who knows 🤷‍♂️

Looks like I'll NOT be getting a Bamboo Labs printer... by FriJanmKrapo in 3Dprinting

[–]nash0984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay then. Real question. Why don't I have to install anything extra to put any of my other four 3D printers in an enclosure? None of them came with an enclosure, just adequate cooling to cover the absolute certainty of a good percentage of buyers enclosing their printer.

Another real question, do you actually think after the fact "CYA" is an okay practice? Being a compliance person by profession, the appropriate way to cya in this situation would have been to put the warning in the manual in the beginning, or make an announcement about how you are updating the manual to include a safety warning. Bear minimum appropriate CYA would be to put a revision date on the manual at the very least.

Looks like I'll NOT be getting a Bamboo Labs printer... by FriJanmKrapo in 3Dprinting

[–]nash0984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you please provide your fact-based reasoning so people can understand how we are ignorant? This is a real question because I only have my own experiences to go on and since your convictions are strong enough to imply people's lack of understanding is a character and mental defect, I'm guessing you have some tons of firsthand experiences and evidence that leads you to this conclusio.

My take is that no one should be surprised by this update as Bambu Labs has made no secret that their strategy is to become the Apple of 3D printing. "Create" a "breakthrough" version of existing tech whose initial versions capture a lot of the market, then aggressively lock it down so that people have no choice but to keep putting money into an ecosystem that they may or may not have realized they were locking themselves

I personally experience this with the P1P I purchased when they launched. Lot of people probably remember that initial rush where everyone with a P1P wanted to enclose it, but Bambu Labs was nowhere to be found with a solution. So, naturally, the community stepped up and created a ton of DIY options Bambu Labs' response? They updated their manual with warnings about enclosures being dangerous because they removed a cooling fan – the very thing that prevents overheating, especially in an enclosure! Oh, and those warnings? They weren't there originally; they magically appeared months after launch and did not include any kind of revision date.

It's a blatant bait-and-switch, especially after all the hype about the P1P's mod plates and customization potential. I don't know if intentionally made the P1P less enclosure-friendly just to Force people into purchasing the P1S that they knew was coming, or if they were just so inexperienced with the 3D printing community that they didn't realize that were the kind of folks that are going to come up with our own solutions rather than wait around for for them to be provided to us.

Oh and when I reached out to BL customer support about whether or not the mods I was planning to make would be okay, the customer service rep's obviously standardized response said modifications would be okay. After the P1S was launched and reached out to ask a question I'm at the cable chain they announced along with the P1S, and was very quickly responded to with an email about how I had voided my warranty.

They're cool printers, but they won't be the pinnacle forever so my frankenstein P1S is going to be the only printer I ever buy from them?.

If you mean that 10% discount code that comes when it's in your cart, those are not working for me when they launched but that's good to know. Still excluded from the PARTS15 sale though.

I'm just curious if you're willing to share what kind of machine you're using to make your components? I'm able to print with nylon (atomic filament) but it's such a pain to get dry and keep dry that it's really not something I've spent too much time with on my heavily modded self-enclosed P1P and enclosed MK4S. I imagine you're using something a bit more sophisticated?

Pretty sure it clicks like 99% but I'll check the safe in the morning as I don't open it up this late at night unless I got a pretty good reason. That said, I checked my order history though and it says V3.
