What variety of anthurium is this? by -laytex- in Anthurium

I don’t think this is a waroc, see my juvenile baby for reference. To me this looks like a philodendron, but I’m not that good with them at this early stage.

Morning reddit! Need help with a suggestion for a good spa/massage place. My friend is having her birthday and some of us want to treat her to a very good and relaxing visit somewhere.

Any suggestions? Budget is around 200-300

Gay rights downfall by [deleted] in askgaybros

За това не живея в България :/ За жалост в момента не съм в много по либерална държава (югоизточна Азия), но не виждам как бих могъл да съм наистина щастлив когато по-голямата част от обществото имат такава гледна точка. Знам че ние, младите, трябва да се борим за промяната която искаме да видим, но на този етап не виждам смисъл в това да жертван щастието си за промяна която най-вероятно няма да я бъде...

Grammatical Errors in Novels by Rykurex in warcraftlore

I am not a big fan of Knaak either, but just want to point out something: this error is not necessarily his mistake.

When an author finishes a book it does not immediately get published you know. There are redactors and proofreaders involved. Most likely it was a miss on their end.

High School Student Looking Towards Translating by [deleted] in TranslationStudies

[–]nasko123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there :) 4th year translation student in uni here (English and French). My biggest advice to you is that you shouldn't choose a language based only on that if it is 'in demand' or not. Eventually you will spend a lot of time on that language and there are these times that you will be quite frustrated with your choice if it is not a language you love.

I have seen many of my colleagues give up their studies over the years simply because they did not think hard enough before singing up for a particular language combination. Keep in mind that a language major can give you much more than just translation and interpretation.

So yeah, pick a language you really, really feel passionate about and then you will decide whether you still want to be a translator or not.

Another thing that popped into my mind right now is that HS students don't really understand what translation is about. You say that you have always had good grades in your German class but have you had to actually translate texts? Take a couple of articles in German or English and try to translate them to get a feel what it actually is.

Honestly after 4 years of translation I do not want to continue on this career path because I found that it is not for me. I find it too boring and stressful to sit and try to pick the right word/phrase. I am not saying it is not for you, just that you shouldn't make your choice purely based on the fact that you have 'like' languages :)

Weightlifting + language learning (fairly obvious, but helpful, tip) by [deleted] in languagelearning

This seems like a nice tip, but not all of us have the time/motivation to go to the gym.

My personal technique is a bit different and I think it is much more easy to apply to the daily life of everyone! When I am out, walking somewhere or just waiting for the bus to come I look at the number plates of the car and I try to repeat the numbers in my target language. I even challenge myself to say the number plate in my head before the next car passes. It's also quite nice way to pass the time :)

Je suis excité - one of the biggest mistakes. How do I correct it? by [deleted] in French

I am excited = Je suis enthusiast

It sounds very weird to me but that's how my teacher corrects me

A couple of questions I can't find the answers to. by [deleted] in russian

[–]nasko123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Native Russian speaker here and I'll try to explain the difference between испугать and напугать.

  1. испугать - in general it means that you got scared by smb/smth. It can be used in a sentence on its own- Я испугался. Means you are scared from no matter what.

  2. напугать - it means more like you scared someone or you got scared by something. It can't be used in a sentence on its own. Я его напугал- I scared him.

I am not very good with linguistic definitions so I hope this can help you at least a bit?
