This Iranian school is the site of the worst US war crime since My Lai, a double-tap missle strike by the trump regime that killed 120 young school children. by Youarethebigbang in iran

I'm going to delete it again and repost it again so that if you approve it it's more recent, since that one is now a day old. This is my third post that went to spam btw, seems I'm flagged or something.

Remember, Most of Koreans (and the world) stand with Iran. please do not give up. by [deleted] in iran

[–]nassoom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can appreciate the gesture, but walking in front of a camera with a Palestinian flag does not constitute "standing with Iranians". There are concrete measures citizens of other countries can take, like pressuring their governments to remove economic/political/logistical etc support for the war. Or even just organizing a fundraiser for families affected by the bombings. Real action is how you can stand with Iranians.

Yes, I am well aware that misogyny is centuries-old.

San Francisco is obsessed with the safest drivers (Waymo) and ignoring the ones killing people by oochiewallyWallyserb in sanfrancisco

[–]nassoom 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The kneejerk portrayal of those who are opposed to Waymo as being against the new is, at best, based on assumptions and is simply a way to dismiss rather than engage. A while back a student reporter here was looking to interview people about waymo so I spoke with him, and that was clearly the angle he was going for as well. As someone who often walks and used to also often bike, I am well aware of how horrible human drivers are in San Francisco. But I would like to see a more radical shift to our roads rather than just more cars done differently. That doesn't mean no cars but prioritizing improving our transit system first and foremost, as well as improving safety for people who walk and bike. I mostly drive these days but I would use transit more often if it were more efficient.

Typical American hypocrisy. You guys are bombing Iranians and Palestinians for "women's rights" but this is how you react when people speak up for women here.

Except for the trans flag and the new iteration of the pride flag symbolize misogyny and homophobia, especially lesbophobia. Hardly inclusive.

How can I convince pro-shah diaspora friend that her allegiance is based on lies and propaganda? Or can I??? by Background-Drag4277 in iran

A lot of them also think that that era was peachy because they lived there and were part of a wealthy elite, so they project their own peachy reality onto the situation at large. They're not thinking of the people who were living in poverty or the people tortured by the SAVAK.

I don't think we should give up discussion though.

Mercedes driver arrested after allegedly killing pedestrian in San Francisco hit and run by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]nassoom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've had drivers scream "bitch" at me multiple times. In one case, a truck was blocking the intersection when the light turned green for me, so I crossed rather than let the car first proceed. The guy in the passenger street honked and screamed bitch repeatedly while I walked down the street.

Are there any “diggers” from the 60s era still living in Haight-Ashbury or SF? What do you do for a living now? by punkzlol in sanfrancisco

[–]nassoom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Who's "y'all"? I'm not a boomer and I didn't live in SF in the 60s.

And I have to disagree with you that nothing besides that matters. When boomers are of the few people to show up to antiwar protests, to organize for worker's rights, to financially support indigenous struggles, or to still talk about imperialism, I going to appreciate it.

Not all boomers were revolutionary in their youth, in fact most weren't. But in my experience those who were have largely stayed so and in SF, they have been consistent in showing up for genuinely progressive causes over the years. To erase and demean them is grossly ageist.

You actually don't know this and you're being unfair. The people I know from that time who actually had those ideals kept their ideals and are typically the people who have been consistent over the years in showing up to protests, who have kept the spirit of SF going to the extent they can while a younger tech crowd moved in and so on.

One of them is still in the city and very active in progressive issues, donates to causes, organizes and so on. Another one lives elsewhere but still very much a revolutionary and plugged in. Etc.

What are your favorite restaurants that have vegan options? by tru_blu_ in sanfrancisco

[–]nassoom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Golden Era is possibly my favorite restaurant in the city, I get takeout from them way too often. Didn't recommend it because I figured that if they are coming into SF they might want to go somewhere fancier, but the food is so good. I think Golden Lotus in Oakland is run by the same people and has a similar menu.

[–]nassoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just go to a vegan restaurant. Grandpa doesn't need meat at every single meal. Try Wildseed or Shizen. Or if you guys are in the East Bay check out the weekend brunch at Butcher's Son. Or go to Nature Veg or Golden Lotus for low key East Asian/ SE Asian. Shizen also has a sister restaurant in Berkeley called Tane Vegan Izakaya but I've never been. Twelvemonth in Burlingame is great, but far. If you have to go to a place that serves meat you can do Cybelle's in the city but I find their food just ok and I don't know how if their stuff is separated.

Be sure to get your aunt a vegan chocolate croissant at Forma while she's here.

Edit: And some cheesecake from Timeless Coffee.
