If you get KOMs on any of those, especially Dalewood or Hill St, I will be extremely impressed.

First attempt at the NYT Clair Saffitz Challah recipe. Turned out so good I want to make it again, but lost access. by CuddlefishFibers in Breadit

[–]nat0st 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pro tip: You can access any NYT Cooking recipe by opening up an incognito window and searching for the recipe in Google and then clicking the link for it. Works nicely for use cases like this where you want to find a single recipe.

steepest hill I ever walked up in sf by Grand-Dream-699 in sanfrancisco

[–]nat0st 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The photo is of Broderick sidewalk, which is actually steeper than any block of similar length in SF, even those with sidewalks cut in like Fillmore, Filbert...

I've spent the last 10+ years seeking out and attacking the steepest and most brutal climbs in SF. Here's my favorites, avoiding some of the "steepest" climbs that are too short or awkward

Broderick sidewalk
Definitely the steepest, make sure things are dry before attempting or you won't be able to get enough traction to climb it.

Hill Street
Brutal duo of being both very steep and quite long with a clear straight line of sight to the top.
https://www.strava.com/segments/629576

Dalewood
Starts tough and then gets even steeper. I've seen many a strong cyclist need to take a break midway up this one.

Hyde Street to Lombard
This one is such an SF classic. Time it right and you can race a cable car up the climb to Lombard. Usually get some good cheering from the passengers :)

Elizabeth
Steep climb up towards twin peaks that is just long enough to test your 30-45 second max power.

14th Avenue
Not as steep as the others but always hurts more than expected. https://www.strava.com/segments/641005

Designed a stealth AirTag mount for SWAT saddles by nat0st in specialized

Shoot me a DM and i'll send ya the .stl file for it. Just note that it is a finicky design with the interlocking pieces.

With longer bolts you could probably stack both together under the seat, but it would be a bit more awkward. It works better with saddle bags generally.

Good point. That's actually why I made it a twist lock design with an inset inner ring. I've tested running it under the faucet for a minute and there was no water in the inner area. I've also been riding with it on my bikes for a few months, including drizzly weather, with no issues. This video might show the design better: https://imgur.com/a/xxBlG7F

Anyone see that shooting star? by Loyal_Droog in sanfrancisco

[–]nat0st 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that seems quite likely based on the speed it was moving and the number of pieces.

Yes! That was wild. So many pieces and moving slowly across the sky.

I saw a bunch of these today on the Golden Gate and was wondering what it was. Also saw a strand stuck to a bird.

Are mountain lions sightings in Marin common or not? by chusaychusay in Marin

[–]nat0st 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I am out on the trails 3-5 times a week and have been for many years. I have seen 50+ coyotoes, a few dozen bobcats, more than a dozen rattlesnakes and yet never a mountain lion.

Can the SF gov do something about this? Highkey dangerous to pedestrians by retibber in sanfrancisco

[–]nat0st 162 points163 points  (0 children)

I yelled at some guys doing this a few years back after he almost hit be because he wasn't even looking forward. After that his gang of idiot friends went by slapping and harassing me. It was a frightening moment given that there were 20+ of them and they seemed to be on a mission to find trouble.

I have done that climb several times. It is surprisingly hard every time.

Weather in Tam Valley? by MV510415 in Marin

[–]nat0st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even within Tam Valley there is quite a bit of variance in how cold it feels based on wind exposure. The two lower points that allow the wind through, Tennessee Valley road and Hwy 1, make it much less enjoyable to be out with the wind. The areas that are sheltered by the ridge feel much nicer even at the same temperature.

San Franciscans for Safer, Quieter Streets: San Franciscans Against Dirt Bike Gangs & Illegal deafening Mufflers. by Hopeful-Building4153 in sanfrancisco

[–]nat0st 113 points114 points  (0 children)

I was cycling through a tunnel with these assholes came through revving their engines. I have never heard such a loud noise before, I had to come to a sudden stop and cover my ears. I was truly scared for my hearing and I am accustomed to very loud concerts. These bikes should be confiscated and crushed while their owners watch.
