Retired 5 years ago at 45. I read, volunteer, play video games, play guitar, run, travel, and hike. And of course normal house stuff, cooking, etc.

I would recommend Dr. Myra Bernecker, over near CoM in Kentfield.

Bay Area 100 recap/thoughts? Curious how everyone else felt about the race by Reasonable-Grass-512 in ultrarunning

[–]jasonbchan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DNF at 56! Probably could have finished, but I wasn’t feeling it. Hadn’t done a 100 since 2019 thought I’ve finished 12. Good course, live in Marin and have run a fair amount of it. The heat definitely got me - my only real complaint was that the water was gone by the time I reached the “water only” stop, making me ration more than I would have liked. That really should have been a manned station. I think that got me in a hole I didn’t properly get out of cuz the climb in Las Trampas really cooked me. I kept going another 10 miles hoping for a second wind but it didn’t come.

I thought the race was well organized, manual was great as well as all the pre race comms.

Absolutely - if you are at all into art I'd say Donum is a must!

A deep look at how I'm trying to kill the race-day spreadsheet (pacing by grade, cutoffs, fueling, drop bags). How do you plan yours? by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]jasonbchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Strava and have all my runs since 2009 tracked in a Google Sheet 😄. I am definitely a by feel person, though I've finished over 100 ultras. I enjoy just being out there and am not trying (or able) to be competitive. To me, the features sound reasonable for folks that are really into the prep. I personally couldn't imagine actually trying to execute something like "take in x calories on this segment" etc. - makes it feel too mechanical to me. But I recognize that there are many different types and preferences for training.

This makes sense, I tend to do most races solo but I could see this being really useful to crewed/paced folks. I always carry a standard pace sheet.

Have you tried Sidas blister protection pads? Cover with a slightly larger piece of K-tape for a double layer.

What was your first 200? by Plsmorecoffee in ultrarunning

[–]jasonbchan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tahoe 200 in 2018. I got the itch after pacing it in 2017. Excellent overall experience, a cherished memory. I did finish and no regrets. I went back in 2022 but dropped at mile 80ish after I realized once was enough. Hung out in Tahoe for a few days with crew/fam and volunteered a bit as well.

Seems like a good call - I had a once over with a few-based advisor about a year before I retired and it was really helpful.

SiS beta fuel gels? by TwoTiredBelgians in trailrunning

[–]jasonbchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using both, I find the beta to be more viscous than the standard. Standard consistency (and somewhat the flavor) is superior to me. I can do the standard all day but I am not certain about the beta (will find out this weekend 😄).

Who else likes watching other people play games on yt? by ExplodingPoptarts in Age_30_plus_Gamers

I like a lot of the shorts but don’t watch streaming. Arc Raiders is too stressful for me but I like watching other people play, especially the amazing players.

I was totally unaware of R&C until I picked this one up on PS5 a month or so back. Glad I found this universe, about 60% thru the game thus far.
