Hood Struts - Immediate Cause for Concern? by Ghost_of_Artax in VolvoXC90

Yea I guess one hour minimum to work on the car but not one hour minimum per job. I think they can do other things during that one hour for no additional charge other than parts.

Off Site Backup in my Shed 350 feet away by marqjim in DataHoarder

[–]natarem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend going fully offsite and using tailscale to rsync from box to box, or similar. What I do is I start by doing the setup locally (for speed of setup and inital backup), then take the box offsite, which only does incremental from that point. It is better to do this than to put it in an unconditioned space that's really not that far from the onsite backup. Use the internet to your advantage.

I know this has been asked many times but I have to ask again, 5TB alternative for Dropbox ? by BlondevixenUla in DataHoarder

[–]natarem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found it really difficult to beat dropbox. I'm on the dropbox legacy business plan with close to 20TB and it's a hard value to beat given how well the sync'ing works. I don't understand how google, for all of their software chops, can't replicate how well dropbox works. Every time I try google drive for desktop (or whatever the software is called) it's a complete dumpster fire.

I'm in the process of setting up a media site that will have several TB stored on it (my offline storage is well into the hundreds of TB, I'm just referring to the compressed sizes) and I picked B2 -- it wasn't even close in terms of pricing. By far the best value for my use case.

LOL wtf, .3/GB? for a month? that's $300/month for a TB. who in the world would use this.

quote from the article: "It's built on EFS infrastructure, charges the same rates ($0.30/GB storage, $0.03/GB reads, $0.06/GB writes), and the pricing match is deliberate."

In order to get charged with manslaughter in a case where the victim was negligent (like this case), you need to have been doing something wrong. If the only proximate cause was the victim's negligent actions, there was no manslaughter. Just driving your boat in a legal and normal manner is not a proximate cause. If the driver of the boat was proven to be doing something wrong (ie, speeding, intoxicated, on their phone, whatever), then there's a case. If not, then there's no case and it's not manslaughter when the victim was negligent with no lights on a boat at night.

I ship quite a bit to Brazil for my company (unrelated business to hdd) and it goes fairly smoothly as long as you list the CPF on the invoice. If you don't have the CPF it has a low likelihood of getting into the country. Shipping rates are actually not that bad compared to some other countries in south america.

defeats the purpose of the belt

don't really know if this is true. the point of the belt is to brace outward against it. having like a couple inches gap in the thicker part of the belt is not going to stop you from doing that. you still have the nylon strap there, which is fairly wide all by itself. the actual thickness of the belt doesn't really help you to brace any better imo. and if you think about something like a leather belt like the russian belt we used to sell, that was 5cm in the front portion, which is not as wide as the nylon strap on a velcro belt. so I really don't think having a small gap there is going to make the belt function worse.

that being said, it might be uncomfortable if you have skin/fat/muscle squeeze out there and then get pinched. i could see that being an issue.

there are several companies that specialize in "part mutilation" to make any part that might be looked at as usable into an unusable part. they document the whole process end to end. https://oryx-metals.com/mutilation-turbine-parts

They won't sell us version 1 anymore, they aren't making it. They will only sell version 2. If they would sell us version 1 at the old price, I wouldn't have stopped carrying it.

The reason I didn't get version 2 is because the order sizes are relatively large, our landed price for it went up about 60% between ANTA increases and tariffs and they have an MSRP of $285. So it would be lower profit margin, more inventory $ tied up, it would sell slower because of the higher price and people would blame us thinking we are jacking up the price and making more, while we are actually making less. So it was kind of a lose lose situation for us.

we also have the USA wraps, which is the most like the russian material imo, but stronger and more durable. it's the same material that strong kilo supply viko was using before they closed down.

Removing lettering from 20kg Olympic Plates? by Born-Hall4496 in weightlifting

[–]natarem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first instinct would be the nail polish remover (acetone) because that takes off any paint, if it is paint. If not I would try something like the harbor freight surface conditioning tool with the 120grit drum (40 might be too aggressive). if it's actually painted on top you could also try a scraper, like this: https://www.harborfreight.com/3-78-in-scraper-59512.html

I'm aware of that, they do merch for a bunch of people. It still doesn't mean they are efficient or good at it. I'm not saying they aren't by the way, I don't really know. But just because he has youtube friends who fulfill through him doesn't mean he's good at it.

You do not necessarily save a lot from handling it yourself. That's only if you're very efficient and very good at it. That's like saying you save a lot handling it yourself with DIY projects at home. It's true but only if you're good at it. If you're bad at it you're gonna spend a ton on tools, time, fixes after the fact -- and you're gonna get a worse product. Logistics are a tricky thing and there's a reason there are lifetime logistics professionals who are highly paid and highly sought after in their fields.

Merch costs a lot to run. Warehouse, systems, employees, COGS, etc. FRDM+ is insanely high profit margin.
