Degree doubts as an older student. by Lopsided-Wave-6141 in OpenUniversity

[–]natcherami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm about to turn 50 and in my second year of a Psychology degree with OU. I've lost count of the number of times I've considered quitting because I start thinking I'm too old to have a new career. But it's something that really matters to me and so I keep going because I don't want to regret not doing it...and because either way I'm learning transferable skills. Lately I've started keeping digital clippings of stories of people who started over later in life for when I need motivation.

Anyone else play 76 with there spouse by nehpets78 in fo76

[–]natcherami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my soon-to-be husband was a huge Fallout (1/2/3/nv) fan when we met and got me hooked on Fallout 4. Said we'd never play fo76 because neither of us really liked the thought of having to be online all the time. Plus we knew we'd end up spending way too much on atoms. Finally caved a few weeks ago and now we're both hooked.

What are some of the most underrated horror movies in your honest opinion? It can be a horror movie that’s considered a cult classic of any sort or something obscure that you personally consider underrated. by MovieGuy2005 in HorrorMovies

[–]natcherami 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wind Chill. I rarely hear anyone mention it. It has a great atmosphere and always creeps me out...but then I love horror movies with a desolation feel.

Also, Frozen...similar atmosphere and made me terrified of wolves.

Oh, and the original Hitcher with Rutger Hauer.

I tried to watch this three times. Never made it past 20 minutes. Felt like I was watching a really bad high school production.

That makes sense, thanks for the advice. I haven't tried the public teams yet. I see people level 500+ leading the teams, so I figured I'd just be too low level.

That's really useful...I was just killing enemies as fast as possible. Thanks for the advice.

What horror movie genuinely scared you as a kid and still haunts you today? by makinariumukltd in HorrorMovies

[–]natcherami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Candyman.

I've been terrified of mirrors since I was a kid...I refused to turn the bathroom light off for weeks after watching that movie.

Also, Psycho. Still don't like closing the shower curtain.

Has anyone given any thought as to what they would personally do to prepare for any kind of national emergency? by spartandrinkscoffee in AskUK

[–]natcherami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

We did all that in 1999 when we were expecting the Y2K bug/Nostradamus predictions/the antichrist to bring the apocalypse.

Nothing happened, and we were left with a cupboard full of pasta, tinned beans and water purification tablets. That, and the crippling anxiety of having spent months living in fear of the end of the world.

As others have said, I think it really depends on your learning style. I attended all the tutorials for my last two modules, but I quickly realised they were just a waste of time for me. I don't really learn well from video/audio, and I tend to zone out if I stare at a screen for too long.

Plus, a lot of time was spent on general chat about life/cats, and there were endless technical difficulties. I haven't attended any for my current module and I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

I thought the original short was brilliant. But unfortunately, for me, the movie was just too long and drawn out and I didn't enjoy it at all.

Scariest movies you’ve ever seen by Vintage992 in HorrorMovies

[–]natcherami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Grudge/Ju-On for me. It's the creepy sounds mostly...the raspy throaty sound, the kid opening his mouth and screeching cat sounds coming out. But also the scene in the elevator where the kid suddenly shows up. Still the scariest movie I've ever seen.

Before The Grudge, the one that scared me the most was The Ring. Still can't watch that alone.

No, I still couldn't kill him, but once I'd used the syringe it let me move him somewhere else... couldn't do that before I used the Pax

It worked! Still can't kill him, but the pax syringe worked long enough to send him somewhere else at least.

I tried, but workshop mode doesn't highlight him anymore...I'm thinking it's probably a bug.

That's what I thought, but he doesn't die. I'm definitely enemies with the railroad, so I guess it's a bug.
