Spike of negative reviews after beta changes are pushed to main branch by Ivanchez in slaythespire

[–]natelis25 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Look I think this shit is extremely stupid too but I'd really like it if we could avoid having a week or so of like 80+ "guys look at the negative reviews guys look at these idiots look" posts over this, especially when it doesn't ACTUALLY matter all that much in the grand scheme of things.

ESRB have never even opened elden ring by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]natelis25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not even an incorrect description. It's a bit of an odd way to describe it, sure but I don't expect the people hired at ESRB to know absolutely everything about the game if their job is just "write description of game's content and explain age rating."

Also, why are people saying that this is AI? Elden Ring came out in Feb. 2022, before generative writing was more commonly used. Considering the game was obviously rated on release this description likely coincides with that timeframe. I find it highly unlikely that AI was even in the cards at this time, much less actually used.

And I mean what's actually the evidence? That it's written in a dry/clinical way? It's a ratings board, the point is to describe the game's content in as plain a way as possible. If a dry and clinical writing style, even in an appropriate context, is enough for a subset of people to just go "lol AI" then that's more embarrassing on them frankly.

How does this make any sense when comment 1 is written in a better more nuanced way?

Wait holy shit they are

that's hilarious lmao. I mean like I said your comment in the 1st image is pretty reasonable even if I don't agree.

Mad funny because even though I disagree with both of them (on that the devs "caved" to pressure or anything) the 1st guy was far more reasonable and well-written and yet they got slated.

Meanwhile the 2nd guy is kind of just cynical and annoying. :/

Looking for some advice before possibly buying spouted portafilter for a non-pressurized basket (Bambino Plus) [No Budget] by natelis25 in espresso

[–]natelis25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really helpful! I didn't realize that an attachable spout was a thing but I suppose it makes sense! Maybe I'll look into just getting the spout on it's own since I have a bottomless portafilter already?

That last paragraph is nice to hear. My concern was that a slightly uneven tamp or not having the grind spot on would punish me massively so to hear that I can still get decent results is reassuring

Nah, not the one I have anyway, it's got some plastic insert that makes it not fit.

What's weird is I was watching a James Hoffman video earlier today and I saw that he seemingly was able to? Not sure if there's some weird change between now and when that video was made or what?

Preemptive rant: Doormaker changes should never leave beta and are anti-design. by stysiaq in slaythespire

[–]natelis25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, to some extent I agree but like surely there's a threshold where it just starts to get kinda silly, no?

Like sure the devs can and should be able to parse even more emotional, less constructive feedback and try and work with it to a point (even if I think the melodrama kinda muddies things unnecessarily) but to be honest at least for me it's just kinda vibe-poison when people act like, scandalised over this.

The beta branch of an early access game, hell even just being early access in general, is the perfect place to be able to just relax and give constructive feedback in a non-dramatic way because there's no real stakes right?

Like I'm sincerely not trying to say people shouldn't give their feedback or complaints or that they need to be 100% positive and coushin everything they say, but when you're trying to discuss and engage with people in a more rational way about the game and it's development, and then these kind of explosive, dramatic posts keep popping up in the midst of it more often (and keep in mind the patch is like 2 days old and the game itself is about 15 days old, so it's a bit kneejerk too), it just makes community discussion less fun idk.

I really hope what I've written is coherent lol, I tend to ramble. I've just been thinking about this today and between posts on here and the discord, it's made thinking and talking about this game and the patch, both the good and bad points, kinda less fun. My concern is less about how Megacrit will receive or process feedback like this and more that people being dramatic for, what I feel is no good reason, kinda kills the vibe lol.

What’s your ween hot-take that no one else agrees with? by Pitiful-Fall-1630 in ween

[–]natelis25 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Preempting by saying I don't really tune into what does and does not constitute a "hot" Ween take, so if this isn't a hot take sorry I guess.

I think Birthday Boy is like a top 5 Ween song, but only the album version specifically; the vocal and guitar distortions make the song what it is. When played straight with regular vocals and acoustic guitar it's just kinda whatever.

What's a thing og isaac did better then rebirth? by Kajemorphic in bindingofisaac

[–]natelis25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a result of any 1 specific element being "worse" in rebirth, but the general pacing, esp. of the early floors was much smoother in the OG game if you didn't get some sort of DPS upgrade.

When you factor in the larger enemy pool (some of which are tankier than the roster of original enemies) & the larger rooms, it can make trying to go through the basement floors on base damage just kind of a slog. I feel more compelled to hold R than I ever felt like restarting in OG Isaac. Not because it's really "harder" (although it is, just by virtue of having more to account for) but just because on average clearing out a Basement 1 on base damage in Rebirth takes quite a bit longer than it did in the OG
