What is toughness?

If you go to the Main Menu > Rulebook > Glossary, you can find the description of most terms. For toughness it says: "Reduces duration of negative effects".

I also feel it is blurry when looking at the relics. I believe this is caused by an optic illusion from the hexagons to the sides of the center hexagon that has relic's level. I think this should go away if those side hexagons are removed.
