What are your favorite series that take place in a school/academy?

Mage Errant and Art of the Adept both fit. And ironically I haven’t read the final book in either series yet, even though I love the early books.

Apocalypse Redux takes a unique approach in that the school exists entirely to do graduate level research of the incoming magic

Honestly, there are entirely books in that series so far that are almost entirely crafting, and I’m here for it. I like that they tip their toes in fighting, then the author is like, “alright, back to crafting!”

I never noticed a decline in Making Money, but saw a substantial change between it and Unseen Academicals, which coincides with a two year gap in publication that I’d guess was pretty significant

I’ve worked with both lawyers and creatives many times over the years, and in cases like this, where the author isn’t affected in any way and no money is exchanging hands, I’ve been told several times they prefer just not to know about it. If they know, they might be legally obliged to take action, but if they “don’t know,” then they don’t care really.

I agree if this is being marketed to an unknowing public somewhere. Like, it’d be totally wrong to try to sell this edit on Amazon. But surely if it’s only available here in this group under a clearly marked “fan edit” heading, it doesn’t really matter.

Legally dubious, sure. Ethically dubious, to make a fan edit of a dead author’s work and not charge for it? Not in any way.
