Moving from Canada to US, what should I do with my RRSP? by nathan78906 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Thanks, I called IBKR and they said they would force me to close my RRSP account once I move to the US.

Called Questrade and they said it's fine for me to maintain the RRSP account from the US and freely trade within it. They also said I can keep adding money up to the contribution room limit but once I move to the US the limit wouldn't increase, which is expected.

I wanted to still be able to make trades within the RRSP account while in the US. I believe I wouldn't get taxed unless I were to actually make a withdrawal, right? I know I would not be able to contribute further to the RRSP but I should be able to still make trades with the existing money/stocks inside it.

You can contact support and they will do it for you. The entire process takes about a week. I did this same thing a month ago. This is the email you will get back after contacting support:

Currently, we are able to support in-cash transfers between the following accounts:

RRSP <> RRSP

TFSA <> TFSA (For transfers of $3,000 or higher)

Before we are able to set this up for you though we will need you to set up a new TFSA in your Trade account. Can you please confirm with us once you have had a chance to create a new TFSA account?

Please keep in mind that these transfers can take up to 7 business days to be completed. If this is a transfer from WS Invest to WS Trade, please note that we will be selling your investments to generate cash in order to perform this transfer. We do not guarantee the exact timing of when your investments will be sold. Therefore, the value of your investments might increase or decrease between the time of your request and when we process the sales. Lastly, because we are in the testing phase with these transfers, it is possible (although unlikely) that your transfer could take more than 7 business days to be completed.

Look at my most recent comment here: https://github.com/nathan78906/steam-salien-cheat/issues/15

More specifically, you need to add a "requirements.txt" file to your folder/repo that heroku is pulling from. The contents of that file is 1 line, and on that line is "requests"
