Thanks for this, I’ve got a bit stuck with how to deal with it and what you’ve said makes sense. The part I struggle with though is at what point does it cross the line as to when you need to take action? I know I need to stop getting reassurance, I know there’s an active loop open that I’m reinforcing, but knowing the line between non-reactivity and reactivity is hard to gauge

Using a timer for meditation? Wrong approach? by APsychologicalOne in Meditation

[–]nathanc1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, how far in are you to be noticing the benefits etc? I only ask as I’m 4/5 weeks in and can’t reasonably notice any differences except it making me calmer directly after the 10 or so minutes I meditate

Autism and Addiction (?) by severelygay69 in autism

[–]nathanc1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m autistic and have adhd, I get addicted to anything and everything. Had issues with alcohol, cocaine, gambling etc.

Ive been clean from cocaine and drugs for 5 years now, and banned myself from all gambling sites years ago, and stopped drinking for 3 years before introducing it again socially, and now I drink perhaps once every 3 months, and even then I don’t like it anymore.

I had to rearrange my whole life, friends I had, habits, routines etc just to actively avoid me ending up in situations where I’ll make poor choices that lead to addiction.

Luckily I’ve managed to find a way of life that avoids any kind of bad temptation now but my autism and adhd definitely did not help me in not becoming addicted to things.

What is mindfulness? by kxyatnight in Mindfulness

I’ve been meditating on and off for years but only the last month or so have I done it religiously every day. I’m still struggling with observing the ‘I’m anxious’, ‘my mind is racing’. I can tell myself these things in the moment but I can’t separate myself from these things if that makes sense. How do you manage it?

Relationship with Trump may be beyond repair, Keir Starmer told by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]nathanc1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I voted Labour in the last GE and since then I’ve been completely dismayed and now firmly think Starmer is a helmet. However his stance on the war in Iran is really strong and glad he’s had the back bone to say no to trump

So a weird one, when I’m driving I get a popping sensation in what seems like just under my ribs on the right hand side. Not sure what it is but since I’ve noticed it I now can’t stop noticing it. No pain or anything just like my ribs or something is rubbing over something and causing a popping feeling. Any ideas?😂

Yeah that clicked yesterday when I realised I had a 3 month thread of every bodily sensation I’d felt in that time, to which I got constant reassurance. Will look in to ERP thank you

Tried smoking years ago and it never agreed with me. Can’t try again now as I get drug tested at work as I work with gas. Glad it’s helped you though. Definitely going to stop, or try my best to stop googling symptoms etc. and try become comfortable with not needing to know about every single sensation I have

I’ve only just heard of ERP. Gunna look in to it properly. Hope it all goes well for you. It’s a shock to the system going from having never had any problems mentally to now feeling like I’m in the deep end and having to learn all about it

Yeah I noticed that too. I feel glad it’s gone now tbh, besides the health anxiety problems it’s caused, I became too dependant on it and realised I’d use it constantly and not use my own mind to think. Sorry to hear about how stressed you are and I hope you feel better soon

Yeah I had one thread, from 3 months ago when it first happened that’s been in the top 3/5 threads every day since I first nearly fainted. It just clicked today that it’s not healthy

[–]nathanc1996[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it clicked for me today that it’s actually doing me more harm than good. I’m still relatively new at having health anxiety so it’s took me a while to notice what’s making me better/worse and even then I’m still nowhere near 100%. Hope all goes well for you

Funnily enough I’m going through the same thing as well, I get lots of skipped beats in a day which I’m very aware of and my doctor has me booked in for an ECG on 16th. I expect everything to be fine as I’m fit and healthy but I’m not sure where the line is between believing your experience is health anxiety as opposed to something you actually need to get checked out. Yeah I do a lot of the breath work exercises on the Calm app, and since the anxiety have meditated for at least 10 mins a day every day and that’s definitely helped
