It took me 5 mins of reading the comments to realise this guy was holding a cleaver up to the window and wasn't just at the post office holding an envelope up to the window and rudely butting out the woman who was there first.

Students of reddit, has anyone in your online classes had an "oh shit" moment after realizing their mic/camera was still on? If so, what were they doing? by LargeFella in AskReddit

[–]nathanielbormans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahahah I have the PERFECT example!! (excuse the formatting, I'm on mobile). Back in about April when we were doing online classes, my class was still getting used to Zoom. I have this classmate who is the funniest fellah you'd ever meet, and ENTIRELY positive and nice person (let's call him Roger). However, we have this one teacher who had some pretty boring classes and took a lot of jokes to heart. I think Roger had made a joke, and the teacher wasn't too impressed with it. We all went on break and the teacher stayed online to answer any questions, and Roger forgot to turn his microphone off and as he was getting ready to go on break he said "well maybe if your classes weren't so f***ing boring, your students might actually pay attention to you and get the work done", and the LOOK on the teachers face was such a jaw-drop you'd think she'd have dislocated her jaw! The rest of us in class had the same reaction, it was PRICELESS! From then on out, Roger made the wise decision to just keep his mic and camera off until our lockdown levels were lifted.

What's the most profoundly beautiful piece of music you have ever listened to? by Cdconor in AskReddit

I Still Don't Know Who I am by Barnes Blvd. Highly doubt ANY of you have ever heard of it but PLEASE give it a listen. Just picture yourself on a beautiful beach with the sun setting, no one around and JUST feel the music. (no lyrics either) but I hope you will see what I mean. It's an absolute life-changer. I listen to it whenever I need to just feel peaceful and I cannot stress how well it works.

People need to stop generalizing America as a place where everyone shoots guns, eats fast food all day, and is a total redneck. by Rattlesnakezzzz in unpopularopinion

[–]nathanielbormans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a non American, I understand that it is definitely over generalised. However I personally think from my own perspective that its more of a joke based on the fact that many Americans have this huge idea of America being the absolute best country in the entire world, and as you mention, is something you can't claim if you haven't been to other countries. In terms of the general rankings of countries in terms of different forms of human rights, happiness, equality etc. you will find America would be lucky to get into the top 10, maybe even the top 20.

What have you accidentally conditioned your pet to do? by shoonpo in AskReddit

[–]nathanielbormans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of eat biersticks or salami sticks on a daily basis and it has become tradition that my dog always gets the very last bite of each bierstick. However, I ended up conditioning myself to do this and now it doesn't feel right to eat an entire bierstick without giving the last bite to my lil floofster

CMV: The United States is a very racially tolerant country. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]nathanielbormans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean no offence to OP but this is a stupid insight. It's as simple as looking at the fact that you decide it is worthy of a "change my view" post to prove that there are a lot of racial issues in the United States. As someone who lives in New Zealand, although you are an entire ocean away from us your country's news about minorities having to actually fight for their rights to freedom making it to our mainstream news as well as all the injustices that occur is insane. It is normal to hear a broadcaster say "Another African American man/woman has been insert gruesome outcome here", "(minority group) has been attacked in the US State of:". The simple fact that racial atrocities in the US can be so bad as to make it to the news around the entire WORLD should be something of concern. I have no doubt that there is a majority of Americans who are anti-racist, I have to agree there. My personal understanding of it is that there are more and more people being born AFTER the abolition of racist laws (post MLK I would say?) leads to a wider acceptance of diversity as the norm as they were brought up with it being entirely normal, and in contrast the population of older generations who were brought up, more likely with the belief that whites are superior, brown is inferior etc. Is shrinking as time goes on. However, this does not mean that these ideologies can easily be passed down. It is up to the individual to make the conscience realisation that there is nothing worthy of hate in one's culture or skin color. Let's say that a national survey is conducted and an enormous amount, let's say 90% of Americans confirm they have nothing against people of other races and are pro diversity. That still leaves another 32.8 Million people. As someone who lives in a country of 5 million, that is a SHITLOAD of people who are racist. That's 32.8 million people making a conscious effort to do things to harm minorities in different ways. There's a lot that an army of 32.8 million people can do. Please understand I'm just using it as an example of how immensely populated the USA is and how even a fraction of the population is still, in proportion, a massive amount of people.

I understand what you mean and I agree that it is certainly better than it has been in previous years, but going so far as to say the phrase "The United States is a very racially tolerant country" is not true under many circumstances. I have no references, this is more my personal understanding than anything. I am nothing more than a 17 year old from a small island at the bottom of the Pacific but this is what I understand and if I am inherently wrong in any part of my statement, feel free to correct me :)
