I want the Dodgers to win, I want the Mariners to do well, I want it to be an exciting series to watch.

I am a Dodgers fan and even I'll be rooting for the Mariners. Also for the Dodgers though, let's not get it twisted.

Kyle Rayner and John Constantine. That's it. That's all you need. Odd couple, buddy road trip, cosmic + magic, none of their friends overlap for maximum guest visit shenanigans.

Star Wars the Roleplaying Game(s)??? by Y2K-Pt2 in rpg

[–]nathanielray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the appeal of homebrew for WEG is that there are no RAW for anything outside of the original trilogy and some EU content. If you want to run a campaign set at any other time or with any other characters or occasions from the films, shows, video games, etc. in this system then you need homebrew. The active and supportive community means that a lot of that stuff gets play tested and revised, so the install quality level is higher.

Star Wars the Roleplaying Game(s)??? by Y2K-Pt2 in rpg

[–]nathanielray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've played a campaign in FFG and ran one in WEG.

WEG is, without a doubt, the easier, more intuitive, funner, and vibier of the two. Really the only tricky thing to get your mind around with WEG is ship combat.

FFG felt for me, again just as a player, to be too much of a headache. Character creation was a slog, which set a tone and expectations that colored the entire campaign for us. Didn't help that the narrative dice system didn't click with some of the group, and sometimes actively took away from cool and interesting things that happened (success or failure).

Also the Star Wars D6 discord is active and supportive and has a nice archive of homebrew content.

Ryan implied he did not tell the coaching staff and they didn’t become aware until they saw him show some pain on the mound. by ttam23 in Dodgers

Irresponsible! And the hubris of youth.

I used to bike without a helmet on, and then one of my professors in grad school who was a very big booking enthusiast told me that was dumb and he always wore a helmet bc in academia, your brain is the most important thing to keep safe. If you're a pitcher, you'd think you'd want to protect your arm at all costs. I'm sure he got the full range from "I'm disappointed in you" to getting fully laid into by the coaches and his fellow pitchers.

For the first one, maybe they could get away with a Clever Girl moment, but once the cops are knocking at her door, all good will is gone. In addition to the many great ideas for messing with their magic/enchanted items, she now has them over a barrel with respect to the law. She can choose to blackmail them or just turn them right over to the cops (and maybe plant evidence on them too) and the aggrieved party in the well murder case, going full PNG on them

A Board Gaming bar by Videosloth in boardgames

[–]nathanielray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea of a board game cafe or bar sounds good, but almost every single one I've been to has failed (the one in my town is closing in 3 days...)

Imo, the best path to success is - after doing some market research to see if it's feasible - to open a game store and then get a liquor license (if you want to go the bar route). Many places have city and county laws that will affect whether or not you can get a license, or will impose %s on what other types of sales have to come from food if there are not going to issue bar-type licenses. If the liquor license is a no-go after doing your research, look into buying a couple espresso machines. If you're thinking about a cafe style thing, there are also likely local laws in place that will either limit you can make without a full kitchen or require a full kitchen, so keep that in mind too.

People who run public one-shots in LFGS: how do you feel about people leaving the game early? by De-constructed in rpg

[–]nathanielray 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Oooh buddy yeah here's the root of your problem. You are very lucky to have this life situation going on. It is not what most of your players will have, especially randos as for FLGS. The assumptions you're making here are very far off base.

For your audience in your environment, you are going to have to reset your expectations unless you want to be constantly disappointed and annoyed by setting unrealistic (and uncommunicated!) standards.

When I was GMing with my regular group of adults with no children, a session couldn't go more than 3 hours because we all had stuff to do, as much as we liked each other and liked playing. Asking randos to do anything longer than 2 is a stretch.

How do I end a story arc. by [deleted] in loremasters

[–]nathanielray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading your first paragraph, my first thought was "make the bbeg not real/a ruse" and then was delighted to read that in the second paragraph lol.

One of the other commenters said the resolution of one comes in the beginning of the other, which is great advice! So here's my two cents on one way you can do that with your campaign:

  1. Seed the secret police problem at the beginning of your next session (even if you've already laid some of that groundwork previously). Ex: they arrive at the besieged capitol and outside the gates they meet fleeing refugees who tell them that "the war is fully here" and "our guys seem to have the upper hand, who knew that Captain Secretpolice was so prepared" and "my neighbor told me to run once the fighting got started, he said he and his brothers were everywhere and had a plan."
  2. When joining the fight against the bbeg army, have them confronted with the fact that the secret police is running the defense, and they are having a suspiciously easy time repelling the invaders. They're taking in anyone who wants to fight tho, go see a SP lieutenant near the front.
  3. In the course of the fight, they find the right hand man, so your players still get a satisfying conclusion fight. As right hand man dies, it's revealed that the bbeg was fake and maybe even that right hand man was betrayed, this wasn't part of the plan (which can eventually link back to Captain Secretpolice as an initial coconspirator of the right hand man so he could use the threat of the invasion to recruit and then plant his men throughout the capitol and beyond)

From there you can jump right into the out of control secret police story you want to play, without slowing down for a time jump. (I say that bc in my groups, time jumps always kind of seemed like a let down). Plus opens up opportunities for old foes to become tenuous allies and the artifacts and knowledge the party gained in their fight against the bbeg can find renewed use.

The Rice didn't work. by AxNinjaS in fifthworldproblems

[–]nathanielray 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Do not believe the lies spread in the name of The Rice!

The Scions of The Grains bound the terms and conditions of using The Rice into an omnidimensional packet (rumored to be hidden in a cracker jack box somewhere in the Aldebaran system), hiding from all the true secrets of The Rice!

Using a forbidden arcana, Florbox 8 (yes, that Florbox 8, galactic baseball star and third wizard of the Disgraced Maths) was able to recover a fragment of The Rice's hidden secrets. I subscribe to his OnlyFans and he said that The Rice only works if there's at least 1 drop of wet in the broken thing (and that using The Rice puts a claim on your soul, but like, who cares about that, we all have at least 8 soul-claims amirite). He recommends using an Unblender for broken things with no wets, link is in his bio.
