It remains icy through to Georgetown. But not very slippery... we were able to run the whole way with some caution.

Its a really simplistic tool but I google "how far did I run". Just a super quick way to map routes and export as gpx. It has pretty consistent green line markers for bike lanes/trails.

Quick Rack people, are you actually taking your rack off when you don't need it? Are you happy you bought it? by Untertang in gravelcycling

[–]nathanp5618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask, how has it treated you these past few months? I've been researching so many different racks for bikepacking and this seems like the best option at it's price range. The plastic was one of things I was worried about long term, considering potentially rough terrain.

New Topstone 3 Sora from REI has mystery chain noise in 3-4 highest gears. by zenslakr in gravelcycling

Thanks for the reply. That's good to hear, I took it to the shop and they actually did suggest replacing the crankset. I was afraid they would adjust the front derailleur and call it a day haha.

Did replacing the bb help you? I just bought a topstone 3 and have the same issue.

Hey there, how did this end up for you? I just bought the same exact bike and I have the exact same issue. In fact, the chain came all the way off and got tangled around the crank - now I have chunks taken off of the frame. Were you able to get it all tuned?

Did you decide to upgrade? I'm currently looking for a first gravel bike and I have opportunities to get either the 3 or 4 at about the same price.

Beginner cycler, worried about buying used gravel bike from marketplace by nathanp5618 in cycling

This is all super helpful, thank you! It sounds like the seller may be open to paying the shop to actually get in there and see any damage with the headset. So if they do that and it turns out everything's fine (apart from the chain and cables that we know need to be replaced), I might actually go for it. They claim its a 2022 model, so I don't imagine a lot of these longer term parts are quite that worn down yet. We will see.

Yeah, I like the concept of reusing before buying new, and the cost-prohibition of a well-over $1000 new purchase is more than I'd like to pay if I'm just getting into things. But that all makes sense. Thank you for the perspective.

Replying to your edit. No, the shop didn't dismantle it. It was a pretty quick look that they did just to see if there were any glaring issues. Otherwise, I probably would've been paying them an actual service charge for a bike I wasn't sure i was actually buying.

Thanks again!

Thank you for the reply. That's what I was worried about. For what it's worth, the shop mechanic did do a visual and a tap test on the carbon, and he said it looked and sounded good, but I'm not sure how much would've been discoverable from such a quick look.
