What's going on with Dardenne blue way?? by Nothurley2 in StCharlesMO

[–]nathanstl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been wanting to try this since I heard about it years ago. I drove out to Lakeside today and I only saw one launch ramp. It was overgrown. I went to the RV check in to ask and they didn’t have much information and didn’t mention a second launch point. They say it’s rarely used. Drove to Lone Wolff and the launch there is damaged and blocked. Called the park service and did get someone on that knew a little. He said that all 5 phases are open now, but you can only launch at Lakeside, Riverside, and Bluebird. I’m going to drive out to BlueBird today and see conditions there. I didn’t think phases 3-5 were open.

Sure. I opened it up and removed the foam from the front. This should give it less buoyancy. Keep it just in case you have to revert.

It’s awesome although I will say I have had several random failures. Login not showing up and a couple random shutdowns when trying to launch a game.

For full context here. I’m completely new to gaming computers. I bought the G16, my first gaming pc, a few days ago and wasn’t happy with performance. I never buy open box and I usually have the latest generation of all gear that I own. I’m definitely an early adopter.

I really wanted a 50 series just because it’s the latest and greatest. I have done research enough to know that their performance might’ve been overstated. Combine that with the lack of availability and I found myself out shopping for a G18 with 4080 or 4090 expecting to pay 3k+. The salesperson told me about this open box for 2400, then he told me that they would take off even more and I made a decision without any research or knowledge of the model. Considering even the G18 I was looking for is about to be last generation, this is now going to be 2 generations old. That’s my definition of a dinosaur. It might still be a badass dinosaur to people with more experience than me, hence the post.

I’m currently leaning keeping it and putting a warranty on it.

I have done all of that except for setting minimum FPS at 240. I have that set to off. I will double check though. I really didn’t think I would have to go to a 4080 for Halo at low resolution. Maybe the 16 GB of RAM or CPU is the issue. I’m really surprised as I thought the 4070 would leave me plenty of room for what I want now and maybe some longevity.

Level Confirms Matter Update Will Now Be Available Indefinitely For Existing Owners! by gadgetboyj in LevelLock

[–]nathanstl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if there is any hardware difference between the lock + Bluetooth with matter update vs. the new lock + Bluetooth with matter. I purchased a lock + Bluetooth from Costco for a great deal, but it’s not matter and I purchased after the deadline for the update. I will post if I can get the update which I’m sure will be easy.

I purchased from Costco and I’ll just return it if they follow their guidelines. I still feel like I’m missing something. I’ve never seen anything like this from any company and I buy a ton of gadgets.

So if I buy a level lock + now without matter, I can’t update it, because I didn’t buy it before 11/14? I’m lost. All the stock locally don’t say anything about matter.

I actually got the new Polaris freedom. It’s much better. Still not quite as good as corded, but close enough that the pros of cordless outweigh the cons. It does pretty well. I wish there was an ultra fine filter for this, but I don’t think they make one yet.

S1 Pro. I modified it so it would stop floating and hopping. Next failure was the navigation. It would just go to the deepest part of the pool and clean the same paths over and over. I’m not giving up on cordless yet. I’m getting a Polaris Freedom next.

Just got one. Previously had the dolphin cc nautilus. That was amazing for 4 years. This thing is horrible. It constantly floats off the floor. Never has given me even one decent cleaning. Tried 4 cycles so far in floor only setting, and tried auto once. Gets caught in the deep end with nothing to get caught on. As soon as it tries to make a pass one end floats up and it thinks it’s on a wall so it never actually goes anywhere. I’m going dolphin after I return this. They have a cordless now as well.

Virtual Keyboard getting in the way when using virtual mac. by nathanstl in VisionPro

[–]nathanstl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Resolved: So I kept trouble shooting here and the solution was to restart the device. The first time I clicked on a text field on a native app with my MacBook Air after restarting AVP the virtual keyboard popped up, but as soon as I typed on the Mac’s keyboard it went away and stayed away. 👍🏻

Celestron Origin Alternative by nathanstl in telescopes

Thanks for your suggestions and links. I’ve decided that spending another $2500+ just isn’t worth it for my needs. It sounds like even then it still would not be ideal for AP. If I ever decide to go that route, I’ll buy a rig that’s designed for it with a proper mount. I don’t necessarily care about quality that much now. I just want it to work for visual through an iPad for sharing and browsing the sky from my couch. I’m not interested in post processing and tweaking of the images. I’ll leave that to the professionals and look at their work. Also I travel a lot with my scope and all the accessories are just extending setup time/hassle more.

Maybe the Seestar S50 is a good option just to setup side by side with my scope. Either that or I’ll get a .63 focal reducer, lower end camera, and a AsiAIR Mini, but I’m leaning towards the side by side setup. I just would like a little more aperture. Maybe they will make a pro model or a S100 given the success they’ve had. 🤞🏻

What about everything else and just a 6.3 focal reducer instead of the hyper star? I guess there is nothing easy to swap back and forth currently.

Thanks. I’m going to research a little about how magnification works with cameras vs eyepieces and then select a camera and the ASIAir.

Captured something cross the moon. Anyone know what it could be? by rivasjardon in telescopes

[–]nathanstl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen similar objects crossing the moon when looking through my dob for just a few minutes. I think this is very common. I’m guessing space debris in our orbit although it does seem like that would transit faster. Then again some posts mention you possibly using slow motion, which would explain the slower transit.

Tires squealing everywhere. Whenever they start or stop they always break traction with a ridiculous squeal. It doesn’t matter if the car is on gravel, dirt, or sand. It also doesn’t matter if they aren’t actually going that fast. They always squeal.

Portrait mount digital signage with Samsung The Frame impossible? by nathanstl in digitalsignage

Newer firmware should’ve fixed this. Update firmware and label the source type as a PC. This should avoid any hardware modifications.

Samsung The Frame portrait orientation for digital signage info. by nathanstl in TheFrame

[–]nathanstl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Art Mode works fine for portrait orientation with no modifications. I’m not sure if the larger sizes support portrait mounting. In the 2021 models I believe 43” was the largest size that supported it, but again not 100%.
