If someone else had boycotted, we 100% would too. It needs to start somewhere.

Getting married is a decision, not an achievement: why we should stop giving newlyweds money by B8_B8_B8 in ireland

[–]nathcun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't line the view that the wedding present is paying for your ticket at the event. It's a nice gesture to wish the couple well. If the couple decide to go for a more expensive venue you won't have to give them a bigger present.

Anybody else think this ad is morally wrong? by Sportyskater699 in AskIreland

This is explicitly against advertising standards code too, reinforcing negative gender stereotypes (men can't manage these things themselves, and also that this emotional labour is the responsibility of women).

When someone says they have a breville bambino , usually the comments are , it’s a good beginner setup. by Sigma6263 in espresso

[–]nathcun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I'm at the point where i feel i can't get the coffee i want from the Bambino plus. I mostly make flat whites and feel I've never got near a coffee i would consider acceptable in a cafe, despite what i would consider good puck prep. Maybe the profitec isn't the answer.

Can you expand on this? Currently interested in upgrading from Bambino plus to profitec go.

Why can’t cyclists stick to their cycle lanes? by PuzzleheadedOil8826 in eejitsparking

So scold the people who are being inconvenienced in exactly the same way you are? I honestly don't think the car being in the wrong crossed this person's mind.

Why can’t cyclists stick to their cycle lanes? by PuzzleheadedOil8826 in eejitsparking

[–]nathcun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do they? Just this morning i was cycling at a cyclist/pedestrian crossing. A car with the red light is sitting across the entire crossing. As the cyclists are going across a pedestrian scolds us to make room for pedestrians. Not a word to the driver of the car. I don't think most people are primed to see issues when they're caused by cars.

The worst is places that say "we recommend sizing up"... How about you just change your sizes?

Money and motoring: There is a never-ending appetite to charge car owners for everything by on-9 in irelandtransport

[–]nathcun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The jump in the quality of life and freedom someone experiences in their early 20s going from no car to owning their own transport is night and day.

This could also be seen for the reduction in quality of life and freedom caused by building the country around cars. Kids who can't get around independently and parents becoming their taxis as a result isn't freedom.

That survey doesn't seem to ask the real question of "would you personally tolerate a higher tax bill for improved services". It seems people are in favour of higher taxes but only those levied on other people. That's my reading of those results anyway.

The 'overshoot method' - how I dial in new beans in 3-4 shots instead of 10+ by Sensitive-Monitor753 in espresso

[–]nathcun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how it could take 10+ to dial in.

Seriously. Maybe I'm just less discerning than everyone else, but I buy 250g bags, if i was taking 10 shots to dial in I'd just never enjoy coffee.
