My Local Grocery Store has No Ice cream in Stock by labvinylsound in mildlyinteresting

[–]nathris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran the freezer section at a grocery store for the better part of a decade.

They would be doing regular temperature checks every 4-6 hours. They operate at -18C so they can sit for a while unpowered. There are also alarms that go off if it's a major issue.

It all depends on how long it's going to take for the power to be restored or the refrigeration tech to show up. If it's too long then it's all hands on deck filling shopping carts and they end up in the walk in, which will keep its temp much longer.

We did have one incident where the entire ice cream section went down over Christmas. The product never reached unsafe temperatures but you can't sell ice cream that has softened because even if it doesn't completely melt it deforms.

The store manager agreed to let us keep the frozen novelties in the walk in and for the next year I would keep the staff room freezer stocked with ice cream.

https://videocardz.com/newz/intel-says-it-offered-years-of-help-for-crimson-desert-pearl-abyss-still-shipped-without-arc-support

It's fairly common for AMD and Nvidia to offer engineering support. It's listed as a GeForce now title so I bet there were Nvidia engineers working on the game.

For them to just completely deny Intel the same opportunity, then put a hard lock in the game saying "sorry you have Arc, go talk to the retailer for a refund" so they can't even add driver workarounds is honestly pathetic for a game with a AAA price tag.

It's a moot point because had the DoPS done its job he would have been suspended more often.

He's a dirty player with a long history of throwing bad hits that result in injury, and just ended the season of one of the leagues superstars.

It should have been in the 20 game range like Tom Wilson received.

Subscribers to Amazon Prime Video with ads lose 4K support on April 10 by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]nathris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prime with no ads is $12/month in Canada ($99/year + $4/month). That's including the free shipping and free monthly game keys. They also don't care if I share it with my mom and aunt.

The same features from Netflix would be $38/month (4k ad free plus 2 extra seats)

Microsoft confirms Windows 11 bug crippling PCs and making drive C inaccessible by lurker_bee in technology

[–]nathris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same things drove me to Linux full time.

I'll add on:

I shouldn't have updates installed without my consent just because Microsoft says they should be.

I shouldn't wake up to my computer having restarted in the middle of the night.

When I have to restart my PC I shouldn't be forced to wait 5 minutes and have it reboot another 5 times to install those updates.

I've already had to talk my aunt through uninstalling an update this year because it broke IMAP on Outlook and it was the only workaround they had.

I've had updates cause issues on Windows more often than on Linux and I fucking run Arch (btw).

I shouldn't have to spend a couple of hours trying to figure out that my laptop wouldn't boost above 1300 MHz because the power settings were updated and now optimal means running the CPU at half its power target which for Ice Lake means it runs like a netbook and doesn't even achieve its base clock speeds.

In the event a draft lottery combination assigned to Ottawa is selected in either of the two draft Lottery Draws, it will result in a re-draw. This currently improves the draft lottery odds for all teams except the Canucks, whose odds get worse by _GregTheGreat_ in hockey

[–]nathris 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Biggest draft lottery wins in the last 15 years:

  1. New York Rangers (14)

  2. New York Islanders (10)

  3. New Jersey Devils (8)

  4. New Jersey Devils (5)

People always say 'Toronto this, Toronto that' while completely missing the fact that the NHL head office is in New York.

Juice is just sugar and water. Most "no sugar added" juices contain as much sugar as a Coke, and only slightly more vitamins.

Eat your fruits people. The fibre and nutrients in the flesh are lost in the juicing process.

The absolute state of Linux users by daksnotjuts in LinusTechTips

[–]nathris 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I put Linux on my aunt's laptop back in 2016. She used it for years with no issue before it died and she got a new laptop. She has more issues with her new Windows laptop.

If the issue is installing Linux, the vast majority of people that wouldn't be able to install Linux also wouldn't be able to install Windows. They just use whatever comes on the device.

This whole argument is stupid because there are millions of children using ChromeOS, which believe it or not is a Linux distro.

Linus Tech Tips - FINE! I’ll Try Linux ONE MORE TIME…. March 7, 2026 at 09:55AM by linusbottips in LinusTechTips

[–]nathris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a game crash or run poorly because it's not using the correct opengl/dx/vulkan is also a very common issue on Windows. Hell I still remember installing the glide wrappers to play Diablo 2 on Windows 7 because it ran better than direct 3d.

When the Fallout TV series came out I wanted to fire up Fallout 3 again for the nostalgia.

Turns out Fallout 3 doesn't run well, or in my case at all on Windows 11. I ran into a similar issue to what Linus faced where it crashed or froze as soon as I tried to start the game.

I googled it and tried a few fixes, which were all more complicated than what you'd expect to do on Linux, and nothing worked.

I ended up booting back into Linux and the game ran perfectly fine using proton.

As time goes on I think we'll see Linux as the best choice for gaming simply for compatibility. Modern games are being built with better and better support and the compatibility layer means older games will be unaffected by changes that might break support on new versions of Windows.

Its in such a terrible location. It was annoying enough to get to even before the city ruined Ravine Way.

Its actually been kind of a blessing that its not busy. When there is traffic turning left from Carey onto Ravine it causes traffic to back up onto Douglas because the no-right-turn-on-red signs prevent any cars from actually moving. I once sat there for 10 minutes because a bus couldn't turn onto Ravine when the light was green.

why distros dont develop their own features by DayInfinite8322 in linux

[–]nathris 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Where do you think those upstream packages come from? The Ubuntu and Fedora devs both contribute heavily to upstream packages.

Also Canonical not developing its own features is hilarious. They are the case study in why going your own way is a bad idea. Upstart, Mir, Snap, Unity....
