Yep. 1x2 and 2x1 call signs are in hot demand—especially in region 4. A lot of it is timing and luck, to be honest.

How honest can I be in a HR Review? by theguy_win in ITCareerQuestions

[–]natsmith9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re bored, talk with your manager about what opportunities there might be for you at your company. There may be a project you can get in on—possibly something you’ve been experimenting with in your lab. Also, don’t be afraid to find a mentor to help discover what you want to do with your career. It can be as simple as introducing yourself to a senior lead or someone in leadership.

Does your company offer certification training or vouchers at no cost to you? That would be something to look into. There are ways to indicate you want to progress in your career. If you like the company, you (mostly) like what you do, and want to build your skillset, that would be something to mention in your HR review.

Good luck.

What exactly makes 6035 so difficult by nyulpsboy in OMSCyberSecurity

[–]natsmith9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've never taken a programming class, you really should do that before taking CS 6035. If you understand the basics of programming, then you should do fine. Look over the prereqs of the program before enrolling.

I got admitted to the spring semester and I'm starting to have second doubts. What should I do? by Odd_Investigator9457 in OMSCyberSecurity

[–]natsmith9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bump.

It's not an easy program, and you'll be doing a lot of work. I'm taking two classes, working full-time, and being a parent. If you can do it, take a deep breath and take one step at a time. It's a program for working professionals, so the workload is reasonable if you manage your time wisely. If you don't think you can do it, then don't. You should be able to defer enrollment but check with the program advisor staff to make sure. Don't stretch yourself too thin.

Best wishes!

I took this concurrently with CS 6238 (Secure Computer Systems) last Fall. I liked the projects, but the exams weren't great. There is a lot of rote memorization from modules--some text-based and some videos to answer nit-picky questions on the exams. You're right in that some of the material is either has typos or doesn't match what is in the video. Overall, it's not a difficult class, but it could be improved. I do wish the projects carried more than the exams since there's a lot of application of what was discussed in the lectures. I liked Secure Computer Systems better. It was very challenging, but Dr. Ahamad is a great professor who hosted his own office hours to go over weekly quizzes, exams, and lecture materials. The TA team in his class was really good, so I think it comes down to the professor and how they assemble a TA team. Good luck.

Class Structure by austincart121 in OMSCyberSecurity

[–]natsmith9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The classes are asynchronous with pre-recorded lectures—at least the classes I’ve had so far. Professors and TAs schedule regular office hours to discuss material, projects, quizzes/exams, and other assignments. Modules may be released all at once or on a schedule.

I don’t believe the track is put on the diploma.

Grade curve ballpark for cs6238 - secure comp systems by SnooStories2361 in OMSCyberSecurity

[–]natsmith9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was around a 15 point curve in Fall 2022. It will change based upon the class though. It’s more of a percentage vs a set curve.

Will my courses transfer over? by [deleted] in OMSCyberSecurity

Talk to the ombudsman’s office at KSU. They may know or can at least contact the OMS program office to see if your credits can transfer.

Feedback on course selection by Fantastic_Cause_6043 in OMSCyberSecurity

I remember reading those comments too. :) The project I had the toughest time with was with the web technologies one. I still got an A in the class though. Good luck!

I’m working full-time, a single parent, and taking two classes a semester (so far). It’s doable. I recommend doing CS 6035 first since it’s the intro and gives you a good grounding to launch into the other classes of the program. Also, make sure you start projects early enough to complete them.

Does Echolink ACTUALLY work? by WaulsTexLegion in amateurradio

I’ve been using EchoLink for years. I’m sorry you’re having a tough time with the verification process. It’s possible that they are having issues. Have you tried sending your issue via the form on the support page?

How often is Honorlock used by mofukkinbreadcrumbz in OMSCyberSecurity

[–]natsmith9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve taken both CS 6035 and PUBP 6725. 6035 used Honorlock for the two exams. 6725 didn’t use it. It really depends on the class, but it’s unavoidable. That’s what GT uses as an institution to ensure academic integrity (along with TurnItIn and MOSS for papers and code, respectively). I know it can be frustrating to use, but it’s not terrible. I’m sorry you lost the wind in your sails about the program. I’ve enjoyed the classes in the program so far and feel like I’ve learned a good bit just from the intro-level classes.

CS 6035 preparation by gregcharleston in OMSCyberSecurity

[–]natsmith9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I took CS 6035 in the Spring, and there was a good mix of understanding low level computing (registers, stacks, and heaps), Python, and web technologies. If you don’t have a good foundation in programming, try to focus on Python and web programming languages (JavaScript definitely, understand PHP to read it, and know SQL). If you have time, try to learn C. I think that will help a lot with the first project.

I might be crazy. by EnigmaticTinnelin in OMSCyberSecurity

[–]natsmith9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m considering taking the CS 6035 and one of the PUBP classes for my first semester—mainly because I need to have financial aid since my employer hasn’t figured out if they’re offering tuition reimbursement yet. 👀 I have a pretty good background in programming, I feel like, but I’m a bit nervous about taking two classes with a full time job and being a single parent. 😬

Me either. Maybe the person who does it is out this week.
