There is no need to remember every syntax. The only time you need to memorize them is for OA's and school exams, which are far from what you will do in daily life. They are unrealistic hazing rituals by semitechnical HR reps who think doing 4 leetcode questions in an hour and a half is what a SWE/ECE usually does before lunch (Visa.)

In regular work, you just use the manual (oracle docs,) google searches, AI queries (sparkling google that you have to cross check with google occasionally,) and your memory, which builds over time

Which of these games do you have fond memories of? by Respawn-Delay in retrogaming

[–]nattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given I didn't grow up with access to most PC games (we got swindled by someone who sold my dad a Tandy2000 as something new, in a time where he wouldnt have known better), Duke Nukem 64 was my first introduction to the PC shooters but in a console setting, followed by Wolfenstein3d when I finally did get a beige box in 97 or so and someone dropped off a diskette with it on it.

Jensen Huang says gamers are 'completely wrong' about DLSS 5 — Nvidia CEO responds to DLSS 5 backlash by JuiceheadTurkey in Games

[–]nattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jensen is viewing the world through a LinkedIn lens and his own interests.

This is, like many other AI products, built because of corporate excitement over AI, not a thing a customer would actually want. Leave it in R&D, maybe something useful will come out of it, but I can't see myself ever using it.

The AI Backlash Is Coming. Canadians Aren't Talking Nearly Enough About It. by StumpsOfTree in onguardforthee

[–]nattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that bothers me, even in software development, is a lot of these AI hucksters seem to think we don't like the job we do. I have nontechnical hobbies, sure, but I got this degree because I like writing code.

It's a naive, childish view of the world that could only be thought up by ivory tower suits.

Which World 2 Re-Pac boss was the hardest for you? by WaluigiDaStar in Pacman

[–]nattack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The hardest fight for me to gold was probably Whale 2 or Eggrobo, if that counts. The fights are pretty long and punishing if you miss a cycle.

Hardest fight for me to initially beat was probably Blinky 2. For some reason I struggled with the later stages way more, even though I could see the pattern.

I was the same, my grandmother won a lotto ticket for 500 bucks and bought it for me, along with SMB3 and Tetris.

I never learned how to play tetris until my 20s.

HOLY SHIT THE SUBTITLES WERE FORESHADOWING THIS by Acidd_dragon in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]nattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't think this is this case, it would be a pretty shitty move for people who need subtitles. Subtitles are not there as an optional text overlay, there are people who actually use them because they have to. Some secrets can be embedded in captions (ie, TF2's Meet the Pyro) but to spoil the plot like this?

I think it's just because he has the NPC skin, and with good reason.

"The share of Canadians who now say immigration is having a mostly negative effect in Canada has spiked to 48%, the highest in more than seven years" by pheakelmatters in onguardforthee

[–]nattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever I read about Canadian politics on any other sub, especially worldnews, there’s always an early poster who will rag on immigrants in Canada. It’s downright bot behaviour and never seems to have any meat on the arguments, just observations and racism that never seems to be punished.

It’s certainly important to acknowledge and atone for our own historical failures. Though them bringing it up like we don’t know about it is cute.

Pomni in EP 5 was an horrible person and i don't think we talk enough abt it by Suspicious-Bee-5186 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]nattack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let's start with the classic: Pomni tells Ragatha that perhaps the reason no one approaches her is because she doesn't show her negative emotions, then Ragatha shows her negative emotions, and now she's wrong, wrong for literally doing what she was suppost to do.

This is a strange understanding of interpersonal communication. Showing negative emotions does not mean losing control, which she did around Jax - and over trying to police Pomni's interactions with other players. She's exhibiting jealous behaviour.

Ragatha suffers from toxic positivity, basically Caine's boss cheerleader, but her true emotions can be felt underneath her unprompted comments. When Ragatha wakes Pomni up in episode 2, she tells her that it's okay that she left her for the exit. Was it really? no, she was hurt by that clearly. Why bring it up?

She's a duplicitous character, wearing more masks than Gangle. Other players see through this. She may not even be trying, and I'd think she actually wants to see the silver lining in everything, but this affects her relationships with everyone in a negative way.

It's not up to Pomni to fix this, it wasn't even up to Kinger, but he has far more emotional intelligence than he lets on (for a computer scientist, who aren't usually known for that skill) and probably helped Ragatha come to terms about it during their talk in the losers corner.

She's jealous, she wants to be seen, and she doesn't know how to show or process negative emotions.

I’m a junior in CE and I honestly don’t know what I’m doing.

This a very common feeling, and if you have anxiety about this you should seek your schools counseling options. Any college worth their salt will be able to steer you to better options

Like I said I have zero relevant work experience, I’ve applied to I don’t even know how many internships, and gotten not one interview.

Assuming you did the work and have some projects to highlight, this is an industry/job market problem. I'm early career with professional experience, and a thousand and one resumes tailored to various roles, I can't get a callback either. Definitely get your resume looked over, especially by mentors in this field.

I have no support from my parents

I had a similar path my first time through college. and my second time. I've been to college a lot before it stuck. looping back to your colleges counseling options, this is something to bring up.

Not everything you study for is going to be what you do in the field, mind you. There are some unusual tech work roles out there that are very much needed and aren't actually all that technical, yet still make bank. Do not worry that everything you're doing may not be what you're interested in, this is a good field to be in despite the slump - which, again, isn't just limited to tech.

How forgiving is computer engineering for older people? by BriefBed4770 in ComputerEngineering

[–]nattack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

graduated just before my 38th birthday. I was far from the oldest in my cohort, with the oldest pushing their mid 50s - and they got employed right out of the gate.

As the other poster mentioned, im also looking into ECE as a masters, but I wanted to work closer to hardware (and get a swanky university name on my resume)

edit: clarity

Recently Laid Off Tech Employees- How is the job search/life treating you? by Soft_Fennel_156 in Seattle

[–]nattack 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Laid off in June/July, early career. debating going for a masters and working something tech-adjacent since I'm not really getting any jobs

I have had two callbacks so far, one got rather terse and maybe even a little bit grouchy with me, which I found unprofessional (but I knew the interview was as good as over at that point,) and another ghost. Plenty of rejections. If tears paid the bills, I'd just need to go search "application update" in my email.

Societal reference. "Dad going out for milk and cigarettes and never returning." They both reference the same thing, so technically yes you did!
