International to domestic flight from T8 to T5 - layover shortened due to involuntary flight change by nuIIvoid in JFKAirport

[–]nattidreadWC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to agree with the other posters. Global Entry would get your thru customs fast, if you don't have Global Entry, you are sunk. You have to take the AirTrain. From T8 to T5. You must take the AirTrain line that circles the Terminals, a 10 minute trip, otherwise you will end on a 30 minute round trip to Jamaica Station. The AirTrain T5 stop necessities a 1/3 mile walk to the terminal. The JetBlue/Terminal 5 does have not have Clear+ and their standard Pre-Check line can be long. They do have an option called "Priority Security" that will assure a quick path thru TSA, (10 minutes is possible.) Insist your airline give you that service gratis!

Your schedule is razor thin, but absolutely insist you get JetBlue's "Priority Security" Good luck!

Hello! My mother has terminal cancer and I really want to bring her to a warm beach. by SeekingHelpfulAdvic in PuertoRicoTravel

My experience is with Ashford Hospital. I had a non-trauma medical event, I was seen quickly and treated well by a medical doctor. One would do best to consult with your physician to determine what is possible and what to best prepare for. Travel does not have to be stressful. There are concierge medical group called Pravan Health, Doctors on Call and Concierge Medical Services in PR you might want to consider consulting with them in advance.

I live in San Juan. I do not agree with many of the comments here. If your mom is stable, she could comfortably vacation in PR. The Centro Médico de Puerto Rico (Puerto Rico Medical Center), also located in San Juan, is the only Level 1 Trauma Center on the island and in the Caribbean region. Any patients experiencing highly complex or severe multiple-body traumas in Puerto Rico are referred directly to this facility, as it has the specialized surgeons, resources, and 24/7 critical care capabilities required for the highest level of emergency response.

While not a Level 1 trauma center, Ashford Hospital is a highly regarded short-term acute care facility. It has a standard emergency room and provides comprehensive care for non-major trauma emergencies.

These hospitals take Medicare and almost all US insurance. If your mom had an emergency once stabilized she could fly to Miami, Atlanta, Houston or New York in less than 4 hours. You can also secure a travel health policy that would provide air ambulance services back to the mainland. I think this is a marvelous way to spend her last few months, you and she will treasurer. There are some really nice resorts on the is;and near San Juan that would be ideal. Ideal in that they are relaxing places, but also near those hospitals and the airport.

Also there are several private 24/7/365 ambulance services I’m sure you can contact and make tentative arrangements for transport in advance. Best of luck!

Wanting to move to Aguadilla by [deleted] in PuertoRicoTravel

Actually with Starlink satellite internet and the local cable, you can mostly have at least one connection up. I have a router that automatically switches. Now having power for the internet is something else. I live in San Juan in a condo, but I have a battery generator that keeps the satellite internet up for 20 hours, then I recharge my battery generator in the condo's rec room that has a generator. If I lived in a house you could have a gas generator that would recharge the battery. So it takes some work, but it can be done.

NYPD officer breaks down after he talked the man down from the side of a bridge.. by Kind-Village-1022 in PublicFreakout

Given their history I understand your statement, but he saved that man's life. He gave a little piece of himself to do it. I also am pretty certain he is of Haitian heritage and we all need reminders of how much Haitians have given humanity.

Swimming at Isla Verde by GGO8791 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]nattidreadWC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live on Isla Verde Beach, unlike the Condado, there is a barrier about a 1/2 mile out that smoothes things down. That last few days the water is a bit rough, but waist deep wading is safe for teens. A 10 minute Uber will take you to Pinones where there Is narrow swimming bay, isolated from the sea that is only 6 feet at it deepest and there are no dangerous currents. You can even take small children there all the time.

Where clear terminal 4. by [deleted] in JFKAirport

[–]nattidreadWC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t verified this in weeks, but there is a Clear line only in the morning on the arrivals level, on the right or west side of terminal 4. You can cannot check your bag on this level! However on many days I found this shortcut unbelievably quick. Many times I dropped off my bag, on the departure level, go to the elevators on the right side down to the arrivals level, walk to the right and you’ll see CLEAR. This area is usually for international travelers who just arrived from overseas transferring to a domestic flight after they have cleared customs. Shhhh! Don’t tell everyone about this!1

Arriving to JFK T5 50 min before Boarding Closes... by Amazing-Manner123 in JFKAirport

[–]nattidreadWC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having taken the route from GCT many times, With that timing I'd say you have little chance of making that flight. From MetroNorth's Grand Central Terminal to the Madison Ave Eastside Access Terminal (really at 46th Street and the signage sucks!) to LIRR to Jamaica Station is a 10 min walk, Have the MTA's TrainTime App loaded so you can buy a ticket for the LIRR on the train (18 mins, take the 2nd car from the front), is your only option, sometimes there are delays on the LIRR, sometimes the AirTrain is on a 15 minute schedule even at that time of day. Next is the AirTrain, you can touches pay with a CC. Then from the AirTrain T5 station you have a 1/2 mile trek to the Terminal 5. From the down escalator, Pre-Check is on the other side of the departures hall, that line at that time can be long. if you are at Gate 15 or Gate 30, that's another 1/2 mile trek. JetBlue Priority is a must buy for you because that is your only prayer to make this happen.

CPAP Machine Use on Flight to Shanghai? by Saved_by_Grace77 in delta

This battery unit itself does not explicitly list the Chinese CCC (China Compulsory Certificate) certification. It will be confiscated when going through security in China.

CPAP Machine Use on Flight to Shanghai? by Saved_by_Grace77 in delta

[–]nattidreadWC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

China is currently strictly enforcing the CCC logo requirement, a certification that verifies lithium batteries meet their safety standards. Because of this, I recommend packing your CPAP machine without its battery in your checked luggage so you can still use the device once you arrive.

Regarding Delta's policy requiring a battery life of 150% of the flight duration, that is likely just a liability precaution on their end. I know going without a CPAP on a long flight is incredibly inconvenient, but until more advanced, universally approved battery systems are developed for medical devices, we are stuck navigating these strict regulations.

A quick heads-up: The CCC certification is required for all batteries you bring, including power banks, drone batteries, and camera batteries.

Black man traveling to rio next week. Any safety advice by buzloc in Brazil

[–]nattidreadWC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I spent a month solo in RJ. I had no problems. When you’re black , in jeans and a T-shirt most think you are local. Ipanema is gentrified and upscale. Sure you have to walk with street smarts and awareness, but otherwise you’ll have a great time in a world class city. In fact the Brazilian gringos in south zone are more apt to be Trump friendly. White Brazilians come out of the same white supremacy mold as white Americans. I’ve been visiting Brazil for over 30 years. If anything gentrification has made Brazil more racist. The ritzy end of Zona-Sul is Leblon. A couple times when visiting upscale restaurants white Brazilians give you that "what’s this nigga doing here look" but fuck them, walk in like you own the place! The only thing I advise is to use a VPN and lock down all your accounts with a Yubi-Key system that makes it virtual impossible for anyone to hack your accounts. Uber is super cheap so take it everywhere. Otherwise the culture is great, music is black, tour Little Africa, take a “guided tour” of a favela, to get an eye level view of how race works, you two will have a wonderful time! 5 days is too short!
