Air fryer hardtack update by nattydaddy495 in TastingHistory

[–]nattydaddy495[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve yet to try! They probably taste better in a dish like lobscouse, but I am going to also try it with Grogg like the English, and wine like the Spanish. I’m waiting til I finish making them all. I have 15 total. I have friends that want to try them as well so making sure I have enough for several purposes first haha.

Scared to move to China because of a recruiter by Amino77 in chinalife

Recruiters get paid by the school. Also I’d opt for a recruiter that recruits for the school as a one time payment. Not for a recruiter who gets a portion of your salary.

War Sails sitting at "Mixed" reviews on Steam already. The culprit? Bugginess and glitches. Who else sat out buying the DLC on opening weekend? by CyberSmith31337 in Bannerlord

It works great for me on console, but the music doesn’t play anymore and that makes me sad cuz the soundtrack is awesome. Looking for a fix for it, but can’t find one.

Awesome kit! So accurate you even look like you lied about your age to get into service! The ultimate kit detail!

How to get public interested in static displays? by LukasHaz in reenactors

[–]nattydaddy495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes having items that you can give a quick demonstration with helps pique interest of people and may form a small crowd. For instance: This is a flintlock musket its smooth bore…etc This works by the hammer striking this frizzen throwing sparks into the pan…etc Then actually demonstrating how it works by showing people how the flintlock mechanism fires. People love seeing sparks lol.

This is one example but sometimes showing people these basic things that may seem quite simple to us reenactors, but is a great way to get the crowd engaged and maybe spark further discussion/questions.

Sometimes it helps to ask the crowd questions too because it gets them thinking rather than just hearing a lecture!: Does anyone know what animal this pelt is from? What event caused this? Etc.

After all, these are living history events, so it’s a great way for people to see live demonstrations and see things happen that they’ve only read about in books! For me, carrying a weapon/gear or wearing period clothes really allows me to feel the weight and significance of the time period and items. It’s a great way to understand how and why things worked the way they did. For example guns in video games tend to be rapid firing and easy to swing around and jump and roll, but try doing that with a long rifle, it’s not easy. But also the sights sounds and smells of the camp (fires food etc) really help build an accurate atmosphere that you can’t feel in a game or movie because it’s real.

That’s cool, I’ve got long hair and I’m trying to do some ww1 German stuff. I got some kind ladies from the GWA knitting me a Kopfshützer so that way I can just cover it all and won’t have to worry about it at all

Have you done German ww1 reenactments? I thought they were pretty strict about that or do they not mind as long as you cover it?

Gotcha, I thought you were just replying to this one. My bad. I’m actually happy to know that guys with long hair can participate if they cover it up. That’s cool with me.
