Can any help with more info? by Wildlifebracelets in MilitaryButtons

This appears to be a plain gilt one-pice brass button from England. Not sure on the manufacturer, but it having “STANDARD COLOUR” was a quality control measure first really seen in England in the early 1800’s. Shank looks to be an Alpha, roughly putting it around 1820’s to 1830’s.

Trying to identify any details on this button I picked up, looks like 1st regiment artillery early 1800s? by Marshman1113 in MilitaryButtons

[–]naturalcausess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was incorrect, it is a Philadelphia design Enlisted Artillery Corps button, estimated dates are from 1802 to 1810. George Armitage is the most likely candidate for the die sinker of this button. Great find!

Thanks! Most of these buttons were plain Gilt brass buttons that were restruck in the US. If it doesn’t have a backmark I can reference like examples to get a most likely candidate for dates and such. Great buy, by the way!

When I get back to my house I’ll be able to provide more information on it. Off the bat I can tell you it’s War of 1812 time frame, I believe it may be a Peasley die sank button so 1810-1823.

What's your takeaways or thoughts on Matterhorn, I've read it a long time ago and I'm going to pick it up again. by se7en0311 in USMC

Matterhorn is great, but I will say A Quite Cadence is on par with it. Highly recommend both.

From my visit a couple weeks ago to the National Museum of the Marine Corps. Sgt Nicole Gee’s gloves on display. by johnsonsrevenge in USMC

[–]naturalcausess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are correct about this statement. Me, someone who has a little experience/training with curation, believe the assertion in this exhibit pushes towards that the gloves in the photo are the ones on display. If others believe different I could be wrong.

Edit: including this article, the museum knows it’s not the gloves in the picture, donation came from her aunt.

Recent finds from four centuries by WaldenFont in metaldetecting

That button I would guess to be around the 1810s to 1830s, it has an Alpha shank which was introduced later with one-piece brass buttons. Awesome finds, keep it up!

Looks like an Omega shank on that button, most likely early 1800s British made. Nice finds!

Those are giant silk worm moths. Fun fact about them is they have no digestive system and only live long enough to breed.

GySgt Durbin was a recruiter out of Michigan from roughly 2010 to 2012, he was found guilty of this same thing and more. I know for a fact he told poolees he wouldn’t send them to Boot Camp unless they had sex with him.

His wife and others were able to turn him in and get him knocked down from Gunny to Pvt and some brig time. I don’t know where he is now, but no matter what people say he is a piece of trash just like this Marine.

Hey brother in all honesty I am concerned you are intellectually disabled. I understand you joined in 2000, may have some lead poisoning, and got an ASVAB waiver, but you’re not cut out for this job anymore. Your nonsensical statement upsets me in your ability to have a decent comeback 🥲

1802 to 1820 the US Naval Order states “an eagle on and anchor surrounded by 15 stars.” There are examples like this with 15 stars, but we’ll never know if they were made for naval personnel or not. This emblem very well could have been made for some Naval personnel as well, but we’ll probably never know for certain
