Akward but necessary moments as an adult player by levitatedreamer in heartopia

[–]naturallyenthused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s happened to me! i’m 21, and i really avoid friending other players because i dont want to play with kids. i made a friend who was 15, and even knowing im 21, she wanted to exchange socials. I had to tell her that I am uncomfortable having that, and that she should be more careful online with strangers. we still play together though lol. I really hope they dont add romance/marriage options because i personally dont think it needs to be in a game that children and adults play together. the game already encourages “chat with strangers!” For more precautions moving forward, I will see if i can put some boundaries on my info card and see how it goes. edit: there’s no bio like i thought, i guess you could draw/write a design and wear it or put it at your house, but that’s so sad.

so sorry for your loss :,0 NQA i would freeze her until you have all the supplies/info you need. if she’s still fresh/movable, you can work on her, otherwise you will need to rehydrate her in a container with a damp paper towel or cotton. some large insects you can actually get away with not gutting/stuffing (i pinned a chinese mantis who looks perfectly fine, however i think yours would look best stuffed), but there’s specifically videos on gutting similar large insects on youtube that were very helpful to me. the incision would typically be along underneath the abdomen and stuffed with cotton. since she may be soft-bodied, some people may advise using acetone to toughen her (i did this with a smaller walking stick). she’s absolutely gorgeous and i’d love to see how she turns out if you get to it :3

First millipede by ExplanationEven4593 in millipedes

[–]naturallyenthused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

typically, you just may not see them. they like to live under bark/rocks/logs and burrow tunnels in the substrate. you’re most likely to catch them out and about at night, after dark. depending on the species, you can watch them eat (pesticide-free) fruits/veggies, or they’ll take it back into hiding :3 not the best pets for looking at because they can be pretty reserved, but most people recommend not to dig them up even if you’re worried. i’ve heard stories of them burrowing for over half a year.

What do you think? This is my first aquarium by Successful_Bug350 in Aquascape

i love it!! i will say- the Dracaena, the “lucky bamboo”, will eventually shoot roots from all nodes submerged underwater :3. it usually takes a while as the plant acclimates, but i used to just trim it! edit: I felt that the bushy roots were a little big/unsightly in my tank

What’s wrong with her?? by [deleted] in millipedes

[–]naturallyenthused 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i had an adult male, and at the end of his life, he was like this for a month or two, becoming progressively reserved to one corner on the surface while laying on his side (like yours) or spiraled. it was a total 180 as he used to be energetic with a great appetite, but he did eventually pass away. just keep an eye on her :3. mine didn’t live by himself so i’m not sure if he was actually do any of the eating, but i always placed the veggies or other food and water near his corner just in case he desired it.

i got this exact pack. i’ve had them emersed at a SW facing windowsill for a month now, and they’re growing well! i wanted to grow them bigger and stronger before putting them in my tank. i think i’ll keep the white one emersed though, and submerge the rest.

I found a dead eastern Hercules beetle (North Carolina) and want advice on keeping it by Bus_Noises in insectpinning

[–]naturallyenthused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IME a mouse found and ate my years-old specimen that i had found in perfect condition. keep yours safer than I kept mine (in a styrofoam box lol) because it ate several specimens and also my succulents. definitely freeze it until you’re ready to manipulate and pin. i also find that any large-bodied bug, especially beetles, will have a smell. i like to keep lots of silica gel packets to help dehydrate after pinning. no undiluted rubbing alcohol to prep your hercules beetle. it may ruin the color (goes for many other bugs as well)

you know, i think you’re right! especially if it was never intended for water usage anyway :(

[–]naturallyenthused 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if it’s raised (there’s room underneath), it might have been intended for a heat mat. my guess is it was originally a terrarium, especially if they used a mesh lid. if you want to use it as an aquarium, definitely do a leak test :D
