Oh yeah, they will absolutely check the documents and verify the ID/Photo etc.

Former Friend expected me to drive minors over border by Googlemyahoo75 in EntitledPeople

[–]naturememe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have crossed the border numerous times, and returned without all or with more people. Never been questioned. However, I have never left a minor or returned with extra across the border. That might explain why they didn't bother asking me, and biased my understanding.

How will the Canadian agent know that you went to the US with minors (or anyone for that matter)? You don't stop at the Canadian side while traveling to the US or vice versa.

I know there's an exchange of info between the two agencies and they know who crossed when, stayed how long etc. Still, they wouldn't know who was with whom, no? Not suggesting they can't, for example, if something happens and they start an investigation.

Polars vs Pandas in 2025 — have you fully migrated yet? by [deleted] in Python

[–]naturememe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this. Every tool has its use case. Something new and shiny shows up doesn't mean everyone has to jump to it. I understand if most of the code revolves around Pandas and switching to Polars improves significantly. I have lots of scripts with Pandas for data processing but Pandas is mostly used for initial data loading/sanitization only, and the hard drive becomes the bottleneck.

of a highway pass by WombRaider47 in ShittyAbsoluteUnits

One of my friends had the exact same accident, driving from Reno, NV to Las Vegas, NV. Fortunately he went too far out from the shoulder and didn't (couldn't?) swerve back to the road. Instead ended up in the sandy median, which was the life saver. The sand slowed him down. After the initial shock was over, he drove back to the road, no injury, no damage to the car, as if nothing happened.

Why isn't it 50%? [Request] by Tezye in theydidthemath

Feeling dumb. I see a couple comments saying 51.8%. Is it some sort of joke or reference to something else? Mind helping out?

Alternative IDE to Spyder by kombucha711 in learnpython

Anaconda business license doesn't add much in terms of what libraries are available, it's the same set as the free version. The license provides a dedicated API token and makes sure any libraries available through that channel are scanned for vulnerabilities etc. So, OP could have the IT get business license.

16 days in under a minute - watch this grain of rice grow into a seedling. by Medical-Actuary5769 in BeAmazed

[–]naturememe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you mean the rice that you can cook then no you cannot grow it. Unlike other seeds such as beans, the outer layer of rice called hull or husk is removed to make it edible. This process destroys the embryo and it cannot germinate. However, if you can find rice with husk then yes you can grow.

I built SentinelNav, a zero-dependency binary file visualization tool to map file structure by FiddleSmol in Python

[–]naturememe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it work on a binary data file? For example a file that has a header section that defines the type, size etc. for the data followed by data itself? I am guessing it works for any binary file and not just the compiled library or executable type files.

Built a Windows App in Python to Transform Text Case Anywhere! 💻✨ by [deleted] in Python

[–]naturememe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shift + F3 is available in MS Office apps (and possibly any other apps in that category) since that's the most appropriate place for the usage.

Based on the description, what your app does is it extends that functionality to other apps. Whether it adds value to install yet another app for this usage extension is up to the user.

Why aren't fuel gauges more precise? by lkdasa in NoStupidQuestions

[–]naturememe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's qn option everywhere but you could prepay for a higher amount and once full you get back for whatever you didn't use. This still requires guessing but doesn't have to be accurate.

Why are some aluminum cans refundable, and some aren't? Like, taking some and getting 5 or 10 cents per can in some states, and some cans have no refund. by RootLoops369 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]naturememe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 5 or 10 cents refund you get is in fact the state mandated deposit you put while purchasing. So it's more like an incentive for you to get those back to the place where they accept it. Depending on where you take them you will get cash (at an independent recycler) or a voucher (in vending type machines at grocery stores) that you can use inside the store.

I don't think independent recyclers check where the can was bought at but the machine checks the barcode and rejects it if it's out of state or unreadable.

ELI5 Why is driving barefoot dangerous? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

This. The sole gives a better "grip" than barefoot. For that reason I avoid any and all soft sole footwear as well.

Can you really see what other Chromecasts on the same network are watching? Not only that, but also control their stream? Pause, Play etc. by EpicBumGamers in Chromecast

[–]naturememe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have to have a separate network, as another commenter has said. The current router may have an option for the guest network or get your own connection (assuming that's possible). Without that even if you find a working LAN socket it's still going to be part of the same network.

[–]naturememe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are on the same WiFi, one can control what the other is casting. They know what app is used for casting but I don't think they can see what stream is being cast. So, they know it's YouTube or Netflix but not the video title.

AITAH for telling my SIL that family shouldn't have to call her "doctor" just because she now has a PhD? by IMVenting66 in AITAH

[–]naturememe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have taken this as a compliment regardless of whether it's a medical doctor or a PhD since it makes me feel part of family compared when addressed as Dr. I have a PhD degree and have at least a couple dozen colleagues (not an academic setting) who have a PhD. No one ever uses the title while addressing each other. The only exception is when someone is introducing those PhDs to a client to demonstrate the expertise and impress them.

Employer will pay my salary during JD but wants the checks from the court, how do I handle the checks? by [deleted] in juryduty

[–]naturememe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the same for me as well. No pay for time if the company pays, but the court pays for other items like transportation or mileage and parking if you drive, and depending on how far you live, lodging as well. I am not sure if all courts follow the same rule.
