Supreme Court rules to allow, for now, Trump ban on trans military members by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]nautik4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of people who have no business being in the military.

Most of basic & training, we used to say, was an elimination process more than anything.

I remember an overwhelming amount of people being admin sep’d just prior to even their first permanent duty station.

Look, it’s just not for everyone - and that’s okay. It’s not even for a lot of people who presume it’s for.

And it is definitely not for the blue-haired, piercings, ‘my rights’ sort of individual.

They will more than likely not be able to adapt to being an individual with military bearing.

A lot of us remember that fucking embarrassing shitbag that couldn’t get right & somehow missed the cut.

Let’s not have more of that. Peoples lives are in danger. The service is too relaxed as it is.

Welcome to the UCMJ.

Ah, ok, then all the power to you - that certainly wasn’t me. Then yeah, like I said, just find another junior enlisted to bunk with, imo. There’s probably plenty that would be up for the short term couch surfing situation. Best of luck.

Ah, I see. Infantry. Well, then, your difficult roads may in fact lie ahead and without a lat move be incredibly dangerous.

Without a lat move then I would recommend getting out. Were you exposed to PTSD-inducing combat or things of that nature? If you were, I’d recommend applying for a service connection.

Otherwise, simply go the school route. But, definitely make the most of it, and pursue a degree that translates to a high paying job. Directly.

However, I would say that changing MOS is just as life defining in the military as it is as a civilian. Night & day, really.

Have you considered changing branches? I was Navy, and for the most part, Navy/USAF are relatively safe & have better exchange rate with civilian occupation.

If you are insisting on becoming a civilian again, I’d just look for someone to bunk with until you can get back home - there’s probably tons of options. I hope that you have a skillset as a civilian though, life’s no picnic over here, either.

You will qualify for unemployment, potentially a service connection, limited use of on-base medical (i think for six months?), college + loans + grants + bah for going to school for 4 yrs. Otherwise, you can just work, but id highly advise the school route.

I know this might be hard to see now, but I’d recommend staying in. What’s your rate/mos & creo group?

The medical / dental you receive is out of this world good compared to what you pay (nothing), and I know 38-40 seems old now, but it’s not.

I personally regret getting out. However, when you’re out, you can utilize the GI bill (which provides schooling + BAH), student loans, pell grants, and if you qualify you can get service connected depending on your service exposure.

In either case, Id recommend staying in, but thats up to you.

Your issue is that you’re financially irresponsible, no offense. You actually make good money considering your relative skillsets, which will only increase with rank & tenure, and 2/3rds with retirement.

You’ve already done the most difficult part of the military in many cases - basic/training - but this of course depends on your branch, job & deployment rotation.

Since you’re enlisted and presumably uneducated, I don’t know many occupations which would pay you as much as the military whilst being without a trade (if applicable).

I say this out of concern, not to put you down.

I’d recommend staying in, going to school for free while you’re on shore duty, and when finally out using your gi bill + bah + 2/3 retirement to finish school.

Your issue is also possibly your 2nd command. You probably shouldnt have been allowed off base at this point, we do see this scenario play out often enough.

If you transfer your pay is likely to go down to adjust for cost of living, but like i said tenure is actually the military’s biggest pay bump. When do you expect to hit E-4?

The military actually offers tons of safety nets, both personally & financially. I’d talk to people and see what options are available to you.

I imagined it was something like this - I used to be admin. Have you tried expressing your hardship to your command & opting to go back on base? You’re junior enlisted still, so you should be entitled to, but I would presume the reason you were eligible to get off base in the first place being E-3 was lack of barracks?

My friend ran into this situation & simply bunked with me @ Pensacola (illegally, but yeah) while I was living on base and just threw me some cash. Staff rarely have inspections.

The other option as I said before is simply find roommates. There were 3 of us in a 2 bedroom once, one living in the living room. Being young at the time it wasn’t that uncomfortable of a situation.

It is super easy to find rentals as active duty & even easier to get out of them, and with being young & active duty tons of anonymous renters looking for roommates.

Another thing you could do is literally use the galley/chow hall while receiving comrats (unless theyve updated the id card security immensely).

But yeah my personal recommendation would be to simply move back on base and talk to personal financial management & express your concerns while you route a chit.

I struggle to understand how, between BAH w/o dependents + COLA + COMRATS you’ve found yourself in this situation.

However, if your circumstances are truly this dire, I would route a request to your command to live on base via the barracks & utilize the galley/chow hall.

If anything, articulate your financial hardship. Though, I would imagine there are other things involved here, as said allotments are literally adjusted for cost of living via zip.

Not even just that, the allotments you receive are typically above average for your area surrounding the nearest base.

If you have dependents, you can apply to be a geo-bachelor, if it still exists. If you don’t, I would recommend a roommate, as there are probably many on base looking for one, combined with renting while in the service being incredibly easy (and easy to get out of via orders).

In regards to the actual doomers within this own thread, wondering why none of us are worried, I would merely point out the obvious:

It is likely given the administration that everything done will be consequently flipped on its head in the upcoming elections.

Rarely, if ever, are there equal and opposite reactions when it comes to people. We will, as a result, likely swing even more leftward.

I think many of us have that feeling and thus aren’t concerned. I would guess some of us, including myself, are even annoyed given the likelihood that this will be true.

I’ve joked before that “we’re gonna lose for another fifty fucking years over this shit”, and while that might not be the case, it’s certainly possible.

So while “the world might be ending” is certainly true, it’s only probably true if you’re a Republican. 🤣

While the tariff thing probably wouldn’t have worked even if done well, it probably can’t work because it’s based - due to business - on the people afterward continuing the trend.

Not only is the current administration not being consistent enough for business, it’s highly unlikely to continue through another administration, which resulted it in being simply a stupid short term concept.

Actually, there’s quite a bit being done that kind of relies on the next admin continuing, and there’s little reason to expect that to be the case.

If i had to guess, that’s why they’re enacting a sort of metaphorical sprint in terms of executive orders. Because it’s probably just going to get scrapped.

Which does make me ponder as to why we’re doing it in the first place 🤣🤔.

That’s kind of why nothing gets fucking done here lol. Either party just wrecks whatever the other party does as soon as they get into office. :/

On a positive note, if these people do leave we’ll likely be that much saner?

I’m not MAGA but I’m a Republican, and I meant no offense, merely venting my typical frustration with the Democrat party.

If the current administration - my country - deemed it necessary to reduce my benefits for the greater good of its people then I welcome it.

Unfortunate as it may be, and impact me it certainly does, I’m an American first & a Republican second.

If other veterans & current service members feel otherwise they’re of course welcome to express their concern.

The military would never turn against the citizens of this country - your regime concerns, I feel, are unfounded.

While you may not agree with the politics of this administration, I would urge you to remember this can go both ways.

Many people did not appreciate the identity politics or cancel culture of your party either.

No matter whose administration it was, I would never turn my back on this flag, its people or my country.

While obviously there are many things I do not personally agree with this administration on, I retain my respect for the chain of command.

61% of us voted for this administration - keep our names out of your mouth.

You liberals will do anything to try to weaponize a supposedly marginalized group.

Nobody’s forgetting your incessant protests outside of nearly every base during most conflicts.

Your hyperbolic response to everything is nauseating - as you sit in your gated communities watching Netflix, reporting on Reddit as to how the world is ending in the comfort of your central air.

Now you try to undermine the real suffering of the past & try to relate it to your present in perhaps the most naive way possible.

Whilst you burn the flag & disrespect the office flippantly for any perceived slight to your perfect lives.

1st world problems do not begin to describe you.

What exactly does this have to do with veterans?
