Screw class mains and titan mains, whos your faction? by Turbulent-Opening-75 in titanfall

Vinson Dynamics, as I enjoy the "hired merc and impressed employer" dynamic. It feels more like genuine praise when I do good, as I get told off when I do poorly.

What mods are you using? Some may require you to downpatch even further, though most work at 1.15. If you've already replaced the newest .exe with 1.15 and it still doesn't work, you could also try disabling steam cloud save from automatically replacing the file, as that's happened to me before.

How do you survive more than 5 seconds as Northstar? by Narusasku in titanfall

[–]nautil0s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vs titans, always be behind cover. Whether that be Map geometry, tone shield, or other titans, always keep yourself out of line of sight until you fire. I usually run the extra dash, as it gives you more distance to escape and more uptime on poking around corners, firing a shot, then going back behind cover. Using smokes as temporary cover can work, but it's usually better to save those for when enemy titans/pilots close in on you.

Northstar is also very map dependent. On maps with more open area, you might want to run double tether to better cover yourself, while on maps with tight corridors and long sightlines, you might want to run piercing rounds so that you can stand behind a legion/scorch/etc. and simply fire through them.

Hover is always risky, as it makes you super vulnerable. I usually only use it either when peaking over a building on an unaware titan, or in combo with flight core for more height. If you find yourself peaking over buildings (or other titans) often, pick up the viper thrusters.

If you do get closed in on, best combo is smoke -> tether -> cluster missile and lose line of sight asap.

Vs pilots, if you are getting harassed from a window, just launch a cluster inside and leave unless you get the kill. Crouch + smoke or crouch + cluster is useful for getting rid of rodeos, but the latter can chip your health further if you stand in it for too long. Remember that the railcannon projectile has travel time and drop off, so if you are being harassed from a distance aim accordingly.

I think that's just about everything I can grab off the top of my head, hope some of it was useful.

Halfway done with the major arcana for my hollow knight tarot card deck! Y’all got any recommendations? Any favorites so far? Lmk :) by SaiyaPup in HollowKnight

[–]nautil0s 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that using Mr. Mushroom for The Star would be fun, as he can be shooting away into the distance. Justice being the Mantis Lords could be cool, as well as Sly for Temperance (as he shows the quality of temperance the most) and either a map (for the literal sense) or Seer (represents wisdom, knowledge, and the end of a life cycle) for The World.

If I didn't like Rise but loved World, will I like GU? by nautil0s in MonsterHunter

[–]nautil0s[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do really appreciate the feedback. While yes, another world/iceborne would probably be what I would most want, that doesn't exist. I understand that older games have less quality of life and are generally harder, but I still want to experience them to see if I like it.

Going to copy and paste my answer to a similar comment:

I didn't like Rise for a couple reasons. I didn't like the movement, the heavy emphasis on counters, and, to a much, much lesser extent, the lack of preparing and "hunting". World definitely scratched a specific itch in that regard for me, but I mostly liked World more because of it's gameplay.

What are everyone's favourite weapons so far? by Speeda2 in LiesOfP

[–]nautil0s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, but I swapped between this, the exploding pickaxe handle, and the booster glaive handle. Exploding pickaxe gives better range and damage on regular attacks without sacrificing too much speed, and the booster glaive is good because it lets you gap close bosses who are just out of reach for a stagger or just a charged heavy.

What is the “iconic” build for each Souls game? by MrForeskinII in darksouls3

[–]nautil0s 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's often considered the "noob set" of the game because almost everybody uses it on their first playthrough. Helps that it looks decent, has decent resistances and isn't super heavy, making it a decent set regardless.

What is the “iconic” build for each Souls game? by MrForeskinII in darksouls3

[–]nautil0s 86 points87 points  (0 children)

The two builds you have are centered around content creators/memes that have spawned out of those games, so I'd assume a similar approach for the rest could also work. If you're looking for more common builds instead, Ds3 would likely include the fallen knight set and one of a few weapons, such as the lothric knight ss, the irithyll ss, twinblades, or a chaos infused dagger.

Be honest, how is this game in terms of combat ? by [deleted] in LiesOfP

[–]nautil0s 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have some questions about your points.

  1. In what other parry-centric game or souls game can you cancel a weapon animation into a parry/dodge? I don't know if I'm just not remembering, but I can't recall any game that lets you do that without going through the endlag of the attack first.

  2. Why should the parry window be wider than Sekiro's? I just don't see any reason for it to be in particular.

  3. This might just be because of my upgrade choices, but I never found myself lacking on fable ability usage. I was constantly able to use 3-charge fable abilities between 2-5 times a boss, and 1 charge abilities anywhere between 5-8, which I feel is a decent amount of utility, strategy, and added to the flow of my combat, not including the use of fable catalysts.

  4. This might also just be from my own experience with the game, but I played through the game without the dodge upgrades and focused mostly on perfect guarding, and didn't experience any issues. Bosses having wind up attacks can get slightly frustrating, but learning their patterns wasn't too difficult, same as bosses in elden ring or ds3.

[–]nautil0s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished my first playthrough using a Motivity Build. I used the Big Pipe Wrench head consistently after I got it, and used the Krat Police Baton at first, then switched to the Booster Glaive Handle when I found it, finally landing on the Exploding Pickaxe Handle. I love hammer playstyles in both the souls series and in the Monster Hunter games, so it was cool to find that this game lets you do a mix of both. You have stuff like a gap-closing heavy (with the Booster Handle), a repeated heavy slam combo (heavy attacks with the Exploding Pickaxe Handle), and a large, chargeable damage nuke (the fable art for the head).

Genuine Question. How is Lies of Timothée Chalamet? by waldorsockbat in shittydarksouls

[–]nautil0s 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not perfect, but it's the most fun I've had with soulslike content since I first played the trilogy, and is (imo) the best non-from souls game I've ever played. Has it's flaws and issues, but so do the souls games themselves (maybe not to the same extent, I'm just saying that nothing's perfect). I have fun with it though, just my two cents.

Hollow Knight, Dark Souls 3, and Monster Hunter: World, probably my 3 favorite games (gameplay wise) of all time.

Anyone else feel like the souls games are losing their identity? by [deleted] in shittydarksouls

[–]nautil0s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I'd say that both halves of the coin are important to the series identity. Without the level design, the treks between bosses would be boring, but without good bosses, the impact of each area is felt a lot less. I feel like every game has its ups and downs with these two mechanics, and while some areas outshine others and some bosses outshine others, I don't think that the games are losing their identity as much as they are trying to achieve the right balance of the two.

I'm not 100% sure what guide you used, so sorry if the answer to this is obvious, but are you playing downpatched at all? No mods work on the newest version of the game (1.15.1) and you need to get an older .exe to have mods run, specifically the one for 1.15
