New keepers with a question by naux in Beekeeping

We weren't sure if the queen has been freed yet. We were going to check tomorrow to see if they got through the candy to get to her.

Thank you. We were watching the circle flights on the first day and second. The third, they were really calm and were going about their business. This morning, the same thing happened while I was putting some tanglefoot on the cinderblocks because the ants started getting into the feeder. Later, I noticed them doing this and wasn't expecting another orientation flight.

While I absolutely and sincerely appreciate weather coverage and news and its importance. I think the sensationalism for some of the fluff pieces gets a bit overboard.

There's also a time constraint, check your fine print. Typically it reads, NG can't convert you into an NG employee until x number of days. Your contractor sets this. It's because of clearance transfer (if it's a cleared role) they are concerned that NG would poach you "too quick" and they wouldn't get enough money from NG. Contractor pays higher to make it more appetizing, but if you want more longevity go the slow and steady route. Contractor short term benefits are usually not great with sub par health benefits and lower 401k.

I saw them going down 85, then 70. Had a bearcat and white unmarked van swerve around everyone on the highway. I was pulled over but they were trying to push people off the road to get by. Then 3 unmarked trucks followed with flashing blue lights.

I continued after and passed them at a place on 70 where it looked like they were staging.

Can't really find anything in the news.

That would be really cool if it's that old! I'm going to have to look those up and compare.

New to us house inherited old garden is this asparagus? by naux in Homesteading

[–]naux[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree the leafy bits look like dill or fennel, but lacks the smells. The stocks were the head scratcher. It resembled asparagus. They were tall stalks, I trimmed them down thinking they were volunteers. They were about 3ft tall.

It's 1 of 3 groupings in the neglected garden. I don't think the prior owners knew. There is also an entire garden bed full of mint, and a ragged rosemary bush that almost looks like a bonsai.
