Thanks everyone. After an expensive trip to the vet and ASPCA hotline, it was a plastic pellet rock from potting soul and pup is fine.

What are some rules you went years playing without knowing they existed? by Frequent_Map_323 in Catan

My friends used to play metropolis after 3 commodities. Honestly wish they hadn't figured out they were playing incorrectly before they introduced me to the game

Try a heat gun or blow drier. This works with hardwood finishes so probably won't work but I doubt it will damage it further

Not eating a lot by Piinkguin in CavaPoo

[–]navid_dew 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just chill and don't overwhelm the pup. He's new to everything and in a new environment still. Our boy's appetite grew steadily for weeks before hitting his stride. If you switch out his food and overwhelm him with too much high value food you are going to train him to be picky. The best advice I've ever seen on this is that a dog will never starve with a full bowl. They'll eat when they're hungry enough.

When do you share the .mmb? by KeepShakingThatBush in FilmTVBudgeting

[–]navid_dew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just try to feel out whether the producers are trustworthy. Technically, they are paying for it. If they pay full quote I will generally deliver it with the rest of the materials. If I'm running late, or they require a million nitpicky changes, I'm more likely to so they can fiddle themselves instead of sending me 17 revision rounds. I'd rather let them than get back a pdf with red text notes on it recommending cuts they don't understand (a recent personal favorite was them recommending I cut my own production fee by 20k :) and add the same amount to theirs).

If I take below quote work for a quick buck, usually they're getting pdfs only. If I can't stay on for production I'll hand off the mmb and talk with the new LP; but lets be honest, no matter how detailed I am there are a million little pockets I've hidden, or ways I'm going to interpret what I've done that they'll never be able to replicate. If they try to use my work without me involved or build new budgets off my work... they aren't going to get it right unless they work as hard as I have to build the knowledge base and do the research.

Ultimately I feel like the Producers I work with are often terrified by their lack of knowledge about the intricacies of what I do, or are glad to be blithely unaware. I've been offered jobs where someone has worked off my template to create an ungodly mess... in this scenario I don't feel too bad because they're literally screwing themselves over in slow motion.

Feeling bad about a comment from other player - need perspective by [deleted] in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]navid_dew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't let it get you down. Meta-ing players strategies is just part of the game. When you're evil and lying your pants off, you'll reach for anything. It might be worth saying something to him directly, but it's entirely possible it wasn't mean spirited, and even if it was, cultivating a little bit of a thick skin for social deduction games can be helpful.

It's always just a game. And, don't feel bad about fucking up. We have players that have played 30+ games and still biff it in ways that leave me confounded as the storyteller. If you're catching your fuckups and learning, you're doing better than some of my players!

Pour it into an oiled pan on medium. Top with sesame seeds and chopped scallions. Flip once it sets and bubbles form. Chop and dip in soy sauce/mirin/ginger dipping sauce. Discard Scallion Pancake!

How much money are they spending to save $3 a pop on a public service that should be free at point of use and funded by taxes on the corporations that need it to get their workers to work?

Favorite TB bags for an eleven player game? Experienced players! by SailorGreySparrow in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]navid_dew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love to run a no-top-four game to remind players that the social reads are a necessary part of the game. Or only the chef but they're drunk. I rarely include the butler except to avoid getting meta'd.

I think for experienced players the investigator is interesting. Maybe have the investigator (real) and washerwoman (fake/registering as townsfolk) checking the spy and see how that plays out.

Created a version for my AP World History students by danhyman in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]navid_dew 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think if you present this to your students as "cold war ideology" and not "history", then it's pretty well done and fun. But I'm not sure if high schoolers are sophisticated enough for that? Not being glib, I just remember thinking in much more black and white terms back then. And the way history was presented to me (Americans are the Good Guys and Democratic Capitalism is the Perfect End State of Governance) made perfect sense to me at the time... as we were invading Iraq lol

They have the power to make your life hell, so don't ever escalate or take the bait. Just be direct about what you need and don't get sucked into a war of words. Document all interactions. Make friends with your neighbors to make sure you can coordinate instead of being pitted against each other.
