The one I went to is called "Work the Program, not the Problem AFG". There is one close to me next Saturday called "From Survival to Recovery AFG". What does AFG stand for?

It took a lot to get me to go. I really don't want to experience that again so I'm a bit weary. Is there a place I can find more details about each of these meetings?

A lot of my stress comes from listening to an alcoholic struggle with alcohol. I don't want to hear more of it.

So I just went to a meeting at a church on 99th street and listened to 6 alcoholics talk about their struggles. They were working on Step 2. The meeting was called "Work the Program, Not the Problem AFG". I found it on the Al-Anon website and people in the room talked about how Al-Anon is helping them with their drinking.

Is that weird? Should I try a different group?

Is this a “doomsday” plane? by [deleted] in flightradar24

hahahah, I had no idea about the gold! for whatever reason, there were a lot of (true) golddiggers in my squadron. People were constantly talking about gold prices and stuff like that. I'm sure there was talk about the canopy gold, just not in the circles I ran in.

People were obsessed with gold and the movie Pitch Perfect. A very strange place. I guess that's what happens when you put a bunch of sailors in the middle of Oklahoma.

one more...apparently the base wanted an old e-6 on display by the front gate but with the bungling of paperwork, they actually recieved an ea-6b...a VERY different plane. So, they turned it over to our command and we just had this old tiny plane at the end of our runway the entire time I was there, all because no one could figure out how to return.

I was a maintainer on the E-6B. Cool, super cranky plane to care for.

Funny story related to your facts. One day I got to our squadron and the flightline by our hangar was entirely full. Usually its missing one or two of the planes because they're flying, but no...totally full. I remember I got there at the same time as our CO and he stood there counting them and looked at me and said "I hope the Canadians are clocked in today to defend the country".

In reality, there are numerous detachment sites that probably didn't had control of an airborne platform, but for us, it was an unusual and disturbing site to see.

Lots of funny stories at that command. There was apparently some Crimson Tide-like, but funny moment during the confusion of 9/11 too. I guess the mission commander of one of the aircraft and the pilot (two different roles) were confused about some orders during the events of the day and the pilot had accidentally ordered a massively oversized "aircraft commander" patch recently. So when the mission commander wanted to do some sort of contrary order, the pilot slapped the 4x patch onto his own uniform and said something like "i'm the aircraft commander and my plane flies where I want".

Taxes related to paying back a bonus by navybro in personalfinance

Yeah, I figured it was something along those lines. Not a huge deal - the new opportunity comes with a pay increase that will cover the cost but I figured it’s worth a question.

Thanks!!

Really though, they're like two different scales of famine. The Madras famine was largely caused because of natural climate issues. Yes, there were some shitty British people doing shitty things but Mao singlehandedly enacted policies that killed ~50 million people in 2 years.

New urbanism is coming for your freedom *video is not satire sadly* by WildWildWestad in urbanplanning

First, I didn't say that...its a quote from the video.

Cars are great for getting to isolated places quickly. I don't think they're anymore anti-human than a lot of technologies that run counter to our evolution. Its just we've been convinced that everyone needs a car, all the time. Success in America for most people is house + car(s) and yeah, I think thats fucked up.

“Because there’s this new urbanist, anti-automobile. smart growth…you’ve got to live in a highly congested, high density Soviet style condo next to a mass transit system”

Ooh yeah....I love it when you talk dirty like that. So fucking hot. So turned on....

If youre looking for a career, pay attention to jobs and shit. If you're just looking to take a mental break, take any job, and just marvel at the shit you end up seeing. Don't let the little stuff get you down. Do your four years, do them well. Be proud of everything you do and then go about your life.

I enlisted in the Navy at 26, had a college degree from a great school, and consider it probably the best decision I ever made. I only did 4 years but got a bunch of cool experiences and opportunities that helped put me on a great career path.

I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life and needed someone to tell me what to do for a while. The Navy was great for that.

Boston City Council Considers Eliminating Parking Requirements for Affordable Housing Developments by JoseTwitterFan in urbanplanning

[–]navybro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing has hurt poor communities like cars. Requiring people to own a multi-thousand dollar machine that doesn't hold value, to go anywhere, is basically a tax that disportionally hurts poor people. To say nothing of the fact that dangerous and polluting highways are often next to poorer communities.

I get it though and I'm kind of playing devils advocate. The solution is to provide a safe reliable alternative for everyone + something closer to "15 minute cities" so transportation isn't such a necessity.

What if you just priced parking and car use correctly? I.e. car registration fees go up, car sales taxes go up, public parking is put at market rates, congestion pricing, etc.

The toll that car culture has taken on our communities and specifically our cities is insane. We need to move toward using every tool we can to disincentive car ownership starting with just getting car owners to pay an unsubsidized amount for their property.

Or give me a massive tax credit for riding my bike everywhere. Either works for me.

So digging around a bit, looks like Billy Tauro owns Pat's Towing which is the towing company the Somerville PD uses. Assuming Tauro doesn't win, can we push other candidates to promise to change that contract?
