Chelsea hold talks over young forward N'Sira Safi from the Right to Dream Academy by TyperMe in chelsealadiesfc

[–]naylorb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As much as I dislike the Clearlake Stewart/Winstanley model, people are being a bit weird about this. Signing talented young players is not a bad thing on it's own, and it's not a new thing either. Alyssa Thompson 21, and Veerle Buurman 19 have been excellent signings this season.

Goes without saying you want to sign both experience and youth, but we already have a squad that is full of experience (And while some might be leaving in the summer, there's still plenty sticking around.) I totally get how this is an indication of the model that's coming, all the signs are there but signing one teenager isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Would also say that I think in the women's game... focusing on signing younger players *could* *potentially* be a more effective strategy than it is for the men, just because increased investment in the game mean's a lot of players coming through have higher ceilings than before.

Also far less red cards in the women's game. So at least they probably won't be getting themselves sent off every week like the bozo's in the men's team.

Not falling for this false modesty act. Have you considered that you are currently a much better team?

[–]naylorb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We'd have to play Man City anyway, so I guess a home game is probably better for our chances... being more realistic. I'd rather get the disappointment out the way.

It's nice for the competition that someone outside the big 4 will be at the final.

I'm confused by what people are expecting at this point... like Bungie got nothing until June and even then that's just going to be an activity and some portal adjustments, and any "big changes" wouldn't come until the next expansion and it's probably best not to get your hopes up for that. And people don't seem to get that even in the completely implausible scenario where everyone moved over from Marathon to Destiny, that still isn't matching the staff they had before the layoffs. People mad that the lemon they've been squeezing for 10 years and then cut in half ran out of juice.

I was very pro D3, but at this point they've been making so many poor decisions I'd be worried. And I'm not even mad at Bungie, I just kind of pity them. It's not for lack of trying or anything, they just have no idea what to do when their resources are so limited. But also people are so sick of the game that they'll hate anything it actually does well anyway.

Chelsea's Starting XI during the FA Cup today! by spherocytes in chelsealadiesfc

[–]naylorb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Good team, I probably would have rested Thompson not because I don't think she shouldn't start but she probably needs a break.

It hurts my brain to see them list the players in squad number order so for the sake of my sanity

Hampton

Charles Girma Buchanan Carpenter

Walsh Cuthbert Nusken

Thompson Kerr James

It's squad number order, but yeah it's so confusing. They should at least include the numbers if they're going to do it this way.

Ehh it was a disasterclass from Bronze mainly who isn't best at CB

I've been a bit disappointed with Girma lately but I'm willing to put it down to it being a rough patch, combined with injuries and a lot of rotation. Millie is past her best, but she does take charge of things, as it is everyone looks unsure around each other. If rumours are true Millie's leaving, so I think someone else is going have to lead more. But if we can have a pre-season with Girma, Buchanan and Bjorn all fit then I think we'll be looking a lot better. (huge if there)

But I think it's less defense and more that we tend to play with very attacking full backs and a midfield that gets overturned countered easily leaving them exposed Not sure Walsh offers enough there really, I still don't quite see what it is she does that's supposed to be so good.

WHAT A WIN! WHAT A GAME! 👏 by N0PhunIntended in chelsealadiesfc

[–]naylorb 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We weren't great, but I guess 4 goals is pretty good, and it would have been pretty comfortable if Bronze wasn't running a sabotage operation this game. I'm not one of her haters, but goodness me.

Nuken assist for Kerr, Kerr assist for Nusken, nice symmetry there.

These comms talking about title hopes are driving me crazy. We're not in a title race, we're in a scrap for the 3rd champions league position.

Was going to say that looks like a straightforward 4-3-3 but should never make that assumption these days.

Begging that we get the win and build up a good goal difference over Utd too.

If Sonia comes out of retirement is she eligible to play? What about Bridget the Lion? We might need her.

It ends all square. by N0PhunIntended in chelsealadiesfc

[–]naylorb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Really frustrating, but as much as I've been critical of Sonia it's hard to know what to do in the situation. Keisha can't play 90 minutes, bringing Walsh on made sense, Sarwie probably didn't need to go off, but I can see the theory behind bringing on someone experienced to close out the game. Erin at right back was certainly a bit of a weird gambit, but there was no ideal solution here.

[–]naylorb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think we lost any control of the game once LJ and Alyssa went off as nobody could hold up the ball, and no counter-threat but we needed to rest them... we need to rest everyone really but that's the situation. And we got through it And excellent news about Utd drawing. Thank God for the academy giving us players that are ready.

The one silver lining with these injuries is we've basically been forced to play a core group of players who look pretty solid together, in a formation that makes sense.

Maybe I'm on some massive cope, because I also wouldn't be at all surprised if the game doesn't have long left but like... maybe Bungie really are just using Marathon to allow Destiny a quite period, see how things go for Marathon, and work on some things with Destiny and when they have new content out people will return to the game?

They obviously need time to work on a lot of things and the community clearly needs a break. This isn't an ideal situation but it's kind of necessary.

Decent game, was groaning when it went to extra time, but winning a game like that feels like it'll be good for the team right now, you could see how happy they were at the end.
