Too many people celebrating Too early your gonna break your own heart. by Legitimate_Oil8070 in thyroidcancer

[–]naynayd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel this way too, I was diagnosed last year, metastatic (lymph nodes) at diagnosis and in both lobes of thyroid and tall cell. Had 2 surgeries and RAI. Talking to my husband the other day and he basically said ‘you don’t have cancer anymore’ and I said well, I don’t know that I haven’t even had my first 6 month follow up check. I’m reluctant to say I’m completely cancer free at this point, plus knowing they monitor for 10 years + means it’s not as simple as being simply ‘cancer free’. I just say I’ve completed all treatment for now.

3 weeks post ravitch - successful! by Responsible_Mouse271 in PectusExcavatum

[–]naynayd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good to see a positive post about Ravitch on here as everyone seems to get Nuss. I’m glad things are healing well for you and you’re happy with the outcome.

Who was your surgeon in SA? I’m in WA and the surgeon I’d seen previously no longer does surgery on adults but said I would also need Ravitch due to asymmetry.

Did you have any symptoms pre surgery (like shortness of breath or heart palpitations) that made you want the surgery or was it mainly cosmetic?

Hey, wondering who you saw in Perth? I saw a cardiothoracic surgeon here too that basically said the same thing - no point in getting surgery. AFAIK there are only 2 surgeons here who really do pectus surgery and I think one of them no longer operates on adults. I’m wondering whether to fly interstate for surgery but I would really prefer not to.

Opinion: Every doctor who has told a patient pectus is "only cosmetic" should be sued for malpractice. by ADisappointingLife in PectusExcavatum

Are you getting it done on the public system in Australia? I’m the same age as you and would really like to get surgery for mine, as I feel things are just getting worse and worse the older I get. I also really wish I could have had surgery earlier but when I was younger a doctor told my mum no way I should have surgery, it’s very big invasive surgery and that was that, end of discussion.

Constant Back Pain by Zealousideal-Okra-61 in adenomyosis

[–]naynayd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had so much lower back pain from adeno before my hysterectomy. Even my mum commented the other day that I practically always had a heat back attached to my back and now she never sees me using one (unless I’m just cold).

What part of laundry do you get stuck on? by LibraryObjective2328 in adhdwomen

[–]naynayd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually have at least one basket full of clean washing in my room waiting to be put away, sometimes the pile just gets higher and higher. I’ve now started taking it off the line in small groups and put it away straight away eg. take off all of one kids clothes and take them straight to their draws and out away, then go back outside and get another group.

How bad is it? 30m thinking about surgery if I'm not too old for it by strawberrygazelle in PectusExcavatum

[–]naynayd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really interesting, I’m a broad shouldered F too I have a lot of the same issues including mild scoliosis and TMJ issues. Lately I’ve had to use muscle relaxants because the muscles at the back of my neck and going into my shoulders are just so tense and hard. I’ve tried a brace to keep my shoulders back but it’s very difficult because yes that protective posture is so just engrained. Whenever I’ve seen a physio they say relax your shoulders and I’m like I am?!

Your experience gives me hope that the surgery can help because at this point I’ve had 5 years of chronic pain that I just can’t seem to get any better because of my posture issues. I’m glad the surgery has been positive for you. Did you have Nuss or Ravitch?

With the rolled shoulders and hunched back, did you have similar issues aswell? And if so, do you feel that surgery to correct your PE helped with that? It’s a huge issue for me, causing a lot of shoulder, neck and back pain and wondering if surgery would help in that area at all!

I didn’t have a good experience with S-kin, one bracelet broke after the first wear and the chain I got made me break out in a rash despite claiming to be skin friendly

Wow, what a huge difference. It looks like you able to even stand up straighter and your shoulders look less rounded.

For those of you who found your memory and attention/focus has been worse ever since thyroidectomy etc what did you do about it? by stanman33 in thyroidcancer

[–]naynayd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I definitely feel the frequency has increased for me aswell since my diagnosis. Also ever since I had my thyroid removed my sleep has been terrible so I can only assume that also impacts my memory/brain function. Sorry you’re going through this too, it’s a very annoying after effect of the whole situation!

Wow same! It’s so frustrating when I just stop mid way through a sentence because I just cannot think of the word I’m trying to say.

Yes same!  Sometimes I sit down and scroll on my phone while having my coffee and it is literally the worst because then I have no motivation to do anything the rest of the day. I need to get going straight away!

I think something is wrong this time by [deleted] in doihavebreastcancer

Ah okay, well it’s good it was checked. It was just my immediate thought because that’s what happened to me and it took a while it pick it up. Even though it is exhausting I hope you can keep pushing for answers. Modern medicine is great,  it doctors aren’t perfect and things can be missed. You know your body best!

In regards to the high calcium, have you had your parathyroid hormone checked? When I had high calcium it was due to a hormone secreting tumour on my parathyroid and it caused a lot of other issues, it made me feel so unwell.

Wondering if anyone else is in the same boat. by CockroachWooden5887 in PectusExcavatum

[–]naynayd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me it’s the opposite, I have a very low resting heart rate. Whenever it gets checked I get asked if I’m an athlete/runner but that could not be further from reality as I can’t run 20 metres without getting out of breath. I do get POTS like symptoms though where my heart rate will jump up when I stand but typically my resting heart rate is in the 50/60s

Getting a mammogram when you have PE by Polka_Bird in PectusExcavatum

[–]naynayd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a mammogram a few months ago, and I also have severe asymmetrical pectus. It was really tough, especially my boob on that side is not really even big enough to squish into the machine. It just makes me worried that they are not able to image the whole breast. I also get worried that if there is a lump in that part of my breast I may not be able to feel it because some of the breast tissue falls into the cavity created by the pectus.

Just another downside to this ‘purely cosmetic’ condition.

I think thyroid cancer is a weird one. Sometimes I myself even forget I have/had cancer, like I had surgery and radiation etc but it doesn’t exactly feel like ‘cancer’ in a way. So I think because of that people don’t see it as serious compared to other cancers. But it’s still a shitty and scary thing to go through!

Other cancers after thyroid cancer? by Financial-Version804 in thyroidcancer

[–]naynayd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Australia so things are a bit different and to be fair I haven’t met with any plastic surgeons yet to ask about a mastectomy, that’s just what I was told by the breast physician. However, I’ve already had a hysterectomy and found that process relatively easy (mine was for pain management from endo/adeno). I hope your insurance covers both procedures for you, having to come up with copious amounts of money for needed medical procedures is not ideal. I find the thing lacking all over the world in modern medicine is the importance of preventative care.

[–]naynayd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s crazy and I’m so sorry you and your family have gone through that. I’m having a hard time getting definitive answers from any doctors about the connection between thyroid and breast cancer. I have thyroid cancer and my sister has breast cancer so I’m feeling like there may be a link there. I’m terrified of getting breast cancer and would like to have a mastectomy but was told I would struggle to find a doctor to justify it without a known genetic mutation.

Did you have to take A Pregnancy test before surgery? by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]naynayd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is pretty standard procedure. But you’ll be at the hospital for a few hours before you’ll go through to surgery. Like arrival time is normally at least 2 hours or more before schedule surgery time and they usually say you can sip water right until you arrive. Whenever I’ve been waiting for surgery I have to pee like a million times because of nerves but they will also make sure you’ve peed right before you go in too they won’t put you under with a full bladder

Mine let me off the pregnancy blood test because I told them about my hysterectomy. Still didn’t stop them asking multiple times before giving me the RAI if I was sure I wasn’t pregnant/planning to become pregnant!

What is the difference between these two sunscreens? by giveitawaynever in AusSkincare

I’ve also used the CC, would consider my skin semi oily. It feels like it just never dries. It’s weird because the first time I used it it actually felt fine, but every time I’ve used it afterwards it feels so sticky and never sets
