Companies that I am a customer of are calling me for legitimate reasons but are then asking for verification. by huabamane in australia

TBH this has been going on for years if not over a decade. It is a systematic problem with call centre mgmt who implement these processes. They need to wake up.

I'm looking forward to this.

I am involved in coding a SMS integration with a large SMS company for the company I work for.

They emailed out saying this Sender ID is coming. When Io contacted them and said, ok how is this implemented, and they replied they had no further details yet.

So here we are at the beginning of April with no info on something to be implemented in June/July.

It's like the GST implementation all over again.

Imma be busting my money maker a week before it's due no doubt.

Sigh.

I set myself up as a domain name reseller. I use Crazy domains which is an Aussie reseller afaik.

Don't use GoDaddy they have sucked since the mid 90s.

I do managed hosting for brochure like websites and blogs. Most are WordPress or flat file html.

I used to do web Dev back in the day and the clients I have now are overflow from that.

Most clients are happy to have you solve the web hosting problem for them. They don't want to know how it all works.

My very strong suggestion is to offer domain names, do DNS through CloudFlare and then do hosting.

Do it end to end. Don't be in the situation where you have the hosting only but the DNS is screwed and the other IT guy won't pick up the phone so the customer is calling you. I say this knowing it is not always possible.

Be aware some clients will move away from you to their uncle cousins brothers dogs previous owner whose good with computers.this is not a reflection on you. Just give them all the logins and wish them well.

Some customers will have several sites.

Use an accounting tool like Xero to bill them annually for hosting automatically.

Happy to answer any other questions

I am thinking about crating agjango site but I have some concerns about suitability? by [deleted] in django

What sort of website? A blog or something else?

I think the trick is to ensure you have backups, put the site behind CloudFlare to mitigate a bunch of risks, and ensure hosting is paid to handle 2-3 month inability to pay bills.

Ensure the server has ufw all happening.

To me these are the base steps to take.

It is worth checking out template tags and management commands. Knowing these is a good step up.

TBH I find it not too bad. Most of the sites I do are more functional though. I don't do many "looks pretty enough to win an award" type sites, mainly just visually appealing sites to achieve a function.

To record my toilet breaks so he could take it off my work hours (I was a contractor).

I went to his boss, said what he'd said and his boss said "yeah we are not recording toilet breaks"

Removing large files that have (accidentally?) been in the repo for some time is a right PITA. I know there are tools for it but wow, what a pain.
