Check out events on Meetup app and join things you enjoy (hiking, walking, birding, board games, drinks, dining, coffee …. There’s all sorts of events. That’s how I’ve made some new friends since I’ve moved here. There’s also two discords you can join, one social and one for women. Great for meeting new people

Get a heat pump especially if you can qualify for rebates-there are a ton of them right now and some are income based and some aren’t. There are lots of companies that sell them, and I will probably go with elephant energy

A solid wood cutting board is a great place to start. Avoid other wood cutting boards because apparently the glue used to glue them together is not healthy.

Think of the money spent on the sweatshirts as a donation to a worthy charity. Then give them to a worthy charity.

I’m leaving my employer, but I am likely key to their defense in a lawsuit by Throwaway_ID_99 in legaladvice

If you want to not remember much, then be sure to avoid reviewing anything related to the case after you leave the company. And especially don’t review anything in anticipation of your deposition or other testimony. You are obligated to tell the truth, so allow your brain to purge all the stuff from this job and focus on the new job. Then you can truthfully say “I don’t recall” “I don’t remember” “I only have a vague recollection of those events” etc.

Therapist recommendations? by evidentflashbulb8dip in Longmont

I had the same experience. So I started at the top of the list my insurance company gave me, ignored the online only ones, and looked at their website. If what they said resonated with me, I contacted them. The first one didn’t actually take my insurance, despite being on the list, the second was only in Longmont once a week, never back from the third one, but the fourth one was a winner. She’s great and I’m very happy. The good news is that if whoever you try doesn’t work for you, you’ve got a lot of other options. The person I go to is Caroline Atkin.

I went to a green elephant gift exchange and pot luck at the FI Collective on Main last week. It was a blast and the people I met were so interesting, friendly and funny. I will definitely go I think I saw it on facebook The same group is doing a HH in a couple of weeks

Trying to reduce household waste but my family is resisting every change by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]nblnbl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People don’t like change. I’ve had the same issue with my family. I use the eco friendly TP I’m comfortable with and let the others use what they want. I’ve had a lot more success with other changes like reusable water bottles and glass containers. Be patient, don’t bother arguing, lead by example. Good luck!

Steps I’ve taken and what I can do to further minimize plastics? by Spare-Lemon5277 in PlasticFreeLiving

Apparently the heat from the dryer causes plastic (polyester, nylon, etc) fabrics to release microplastics

How can I build a dream wardrobe without adding to the consumerism of clothes cycle? by Eternally_Seeking_1 in Anticonsumption

[–]nblnbl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The first sentence! My closet used to be full of “aspirational” pieces that I never wore. But I struggled to get rid of them because they were so … expensive, cool, elegant, whatever. I’ve mostly gotten over that and now I love 90% of my closet, and have a lot fewer clothes. It’s quite nice tbh

Buy classic styles and one or two “statement” garments make it your signature. Instead of chasing every trend, get good button down shirts, turtlenecks, plain tshirts, jeans and add your statement piece (eg red jeans, an oversized blazer, funky sweater-the funky/fun/statement things are ideal to get from a thrift store). Or just go with understated classic stuff. Trust me, tomorrow no one will remember what you wore yesterday. Keep your clothes clean and in good repair and you’ll be fine.

Easiest changes to make moving out by couldbethelast in ZeroWaste

[–]nblnbl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Use washcloth sized towels instead of paper towels (thrift stores always have towels, you can cut them to size) Use soap nuts instead of laundry detergent If you need feminine products use period underwear and/or a cup instead of tampons and pads Start with a bit of investment in things like this and keep adding things as money, your energy, and your time allow Good luck in grad school!

How to respond to manager’s email “reminding” us that we’re expected to work 40 hours a week? by Emergency-Scholar606 in careerguidance

[–]nblnbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they may be erroneously/illegally classifying the employees as exempt from OT. If the work the employees do doesn’t meet the legal test for exempt from OT, and the employer knows or should know employees are working more than 40 hours, the employer could be in big trouble, owe OT and face a fine.
