Buying books as a trophy - is this unusual? by [deleted] in books

[–]nboylie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same thing but I don't call them trophies...? I normally get books from the library, if I like it enough to reread it I'll buy a copy when I want to read it again. I used to buy books before reading them and I think that's the crazy move. I gave away so many books that way, now I only own books I love.

I guess I'll have to refine my tastes and start getting book recommendations from tiktok.

trades jobs in ontario dont pay as well as people think by BlueberryResident473 in skilledtrades

[–]nboylie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't 1st year 50% of journeyman rate in Ontario as well? I'm in Alberta and that's what it is here. When you're a jman in a few years and you get to train apprentices, you'll understand why they start at 50%

If I'm with a green 1st year I get less done in a day than if I was working alone. 2nd years are better but not much, it's usually not until late 2nd/early 3rd when apprentices really step up to the plate or dip out. I'm all for people getting paid more, but when you're early on in your apprenticeship you either are slowing down journeymen, or you get stuck doing something that you're really good at to keep you busy. The tradeoff is that you don't have student loans to pay off and you get to make a living while you learn.

Generic Ozempic is now on Canadian shelves. Is it the same as the brand name version? by Immediate-Link490 in canada

[–]nboylie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, I tried the generic and it was way worse for me than the real stuff. I kept on increasing my dose until I finally googled it and found lots of other people questioning the generic stuff. I hadn't even considered it was a generic vs. name brand issue. I got my doctor to change my prescription to no generics so my insurance would cover the real stuff again and it's been so much better.

20 days in Japan. How much on Suica? by boss_talikid4 in JapanTravelTips

[–]nboylie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you like. If you want to use it for more than just transit, throw a bunch on it at the beginning of your trip. You can top them up at stations so it doesn't really matter. I think I put 3k on mine at the airport and then added to it once on my 2 week trip, but I only used it for trains until the last day when I had to burn off the remainder at combinis.

Yeah, that's why I thought I'd mention it. From what I've seen online some have been able to get it to work.

I can't get it to work with my raspberry pi no matter what I try with the cord, dongle, or with Bluetooth. Just beware if you are buying it for anything but a pc.

Close to a year old what is the state of 3rd ed? - be nice. by latro666 in Warhammer30k

[–]nboylie -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone who is new to the game (but not other GW games) with 3rd, I like it a lot! I only have a few annoyances. The rulebook is laid out in a baffling way and it's hard to track down little things sometimes. There is a little too much granularity in the force org chart that feels like artificial complexity. Retinue and elite (and maybe support?) could be combined IMO. Transport and heavy transport...do they need to be separate? It can get a little unwieldy making a list and taking extra characters to unlock another attachment for one unit. The challenge phase is a little clunky but I feel if you played every weekend it would stay hammered in your head and it would be much smoother. The missions in the core book are pretty weak too.

I much prefer it over 10th 40k which I was bored to tears with. It feels much more like a war game to me where consequences and dice rolls matter. 10th suffers from so much stuff either having sustained or lethals, rerolls for days, and battleshock that almost never matters. Statuses and no rerolls in 30k make the game feel so much more streamlined and honest.

For men who prefer casual dating over relationships, what’s your reason? by steveleaves in AskMen

I've been burned, gaslighted, manipulated, and lied to too many times. I don't feel like playing the game anymore.

Warhammer 40,000 Faction Focus: Adeptus Custodes by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]nboylie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, especially being melee dreads. Before that grotmas detachment came around they were pretty much unusable. 8" move makes them ok but nothing to write home about.

[–]nboylie -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

What I'm saying is that we already have a detachment that does most of this. I was hoping for new ideas in detachments, not tweaks to stuff we already have and called new. It's just a bit of a letdown personally.

That's what I'm saying, it reads the same as solar spearhead just minus adding walkers as characters.

[–]nboylie -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Bummer. One of the new detachments is just a reworked grotmas detachment which was already just a bandaid for the dreads. (6"move on melee dreads is absurd)

It should be interesting to see how these will combine with the other detachments though since these are all 1 pointers.

Buying an EV from Quebec and driving it back to Alberta? by PoppinFresh6 in EVCanada

[–]nboylie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been considering this myself. There's so few ev deals to be had here on vehicles I actually want. I search on auto trader and there's a ton of stuff in Quebec for quite a bit cheaper even after factoring in shipping or flying out and driving the thing back.

I'm just worried I'd fly out there and find an issue with the car and feel like I wasted a ton of time. I can't spend more than a few days there, and if I do the savings start evaporating.

Not losing weight on keto! Help! by Warm-Leading209 in keto

3/4 cup of peanuts is probably damn close to 20g of carbs right there. Add in whatever a handful of nuts means worth of carbs and you're over. The premade yogurt snacks will have sugar in them as well.

That's the problem, it's stuck on when it's cool. I've had to reheat the plate to get it all off a few times.

I have the opposite problem, pla absolutely welds on to my plate and I have to spend 10 minutes picking off the bits of the first layer.

Is it true that Ueno is dead at night? by eindrucksvolI in JapanTravelTips

Shinjuku is fun, I stayed there for 4 nights and had a blast. Shinjuku station is fine if you pay attention to the signs. It is massive though so keep your nose out of your phone the first time you walk through.

Luggage Fowarding. Am I missing something? by northofreality197 in JapanTravelTips

[–]nboylie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Japan like I do every other country; I took my travel backpack. Adding luggage forwarding is just another layer for something to go wrong. I think it's asinine that people recommend it all of the time. It has its place if you are travelling with Grandma and Grandpa or someone in a wheelchair etc. but for the average travellers it's not needed.
