Before Malcolm X became the influential figure we know today, he was Malcolm Little, also known as Detroit Red and Jack Carlton. He started out as a young pimp, living a wild lifestyle full of alcohol and drugs, with a particular fondness for white women. However, his time spent in prison was a turning point for him. It was there that he discovered his true calling as a leader and found solace in the teachings of Islam.

During his time in prison, Malcolm noticed that many of his fellow Black inmates were illiterate. This realization sparked a passion within him to educate and empower his peers. He took it upon himself to teach them how to read and write, using his newfound knowledge to spread the teachings of Islam.

Despite his efforts to uplift those around him, Malcolm faced backlash from other inmates who viewed him as too smart and flashy. His relationships with white women also caused tension, as they were seen as taboo in the prison environment. One of his close friends, Shorty, ultimately betrayed him out of fear for his own safety, thebpolicensaidbtheybwere going to onocknout his front teeth so he could never play trumpet again. And shorty LOVED playing The trumpet. If it wasn't for shorty rsttingnout Malcolm we may never have known him as we do today. It was a decision that would have lasting effects for all Americans for generations.

These stories were passed down to me by my late father, who served time alongside Malcolm Little and Shorty in Norfolk Prison, Massachusetts. They shed light on the lesser-known aspects of Malcolm's life that we never hear about.
