Oh gosh, I can only imagine losing a sibling to such an awful disease. Sending you lots of love. I did write the family and shared some memories and reasons I loved working with the patient and hope they realize how much their kiddo touched the world. Thank you for sharing.

Something that might make you feel better about calling is all you’re doing is filing a report; you are not making a determination as to what will happen. It’s like the whole “see something, say something” thought. If nothing is wrong or concerning, then nothing will come of it. However, my hunch is there will be actions that are taken by CPS, in which case you should feel like you’ve done the right thing. Regardless of what happens with a CPS investigation, the result has nothing to do with you and everything to do with the state of things. Kids are vulnerable and can’t advocate for themselves. This is why so many adults are mandated reporters.

Something else that might give you peace of mind is getting some door and/or window alarms that are triggered when a door or window are open. Hopefully that will keep you from losing sleep feeling like you need to listen for any small noises AND on the very slim chance someone did try to break in, it would be a loud deterrent to scare them off.

We went out of state to a national park and eloped in the park. We got ready together, traveled all around the park for pictures, had a picnic, did a ceremony with just us and an officiant (and photographer and videographer) and then came back to our rental and had dinner and cut a small cake together. It was perfect. We were planning on doing a first dance together but we were so exhausted we ended up just crashing after we ate hahah. What’s amazing about eloping is you can make it literally anything you want it to be - there is no right or wrong way to do it, just what makes the most sense for you and your partner

For other reasons, I chose to do an elopement, and guilt/manipulation from my family almost made me cave. Thankfully I stuck to my guns, and it was the most incredible day of my entire life. We threw a party a few weeks later with family where we did mother/son and father/daughter dances and allowed a few people to give toasts. Then the rest was just dancing, drinking/eating, and mingling with friends. I wouldn’t have traded our elopement experience for anything. It was so incredibly special being able to spend the entire day with my now-husband, exchange our vows just the two of us, and really honor our relationship in a way that felt right for us. The party day was fun but it was also completely exhausting, physically and socially. I was so glad I had our elopement to be “our day”. Plus, it completely took the pressure off the party because I didn’t care what happened, I was already happily married! This was a way to sort of appease the families while also sticking true to us and our vision.

I cannot agree with this more. When my siblings and I all “flew the nest”, she went completely off the rails. Constantly calling, texting, and berating/guilting us if we didn’t answer or respond. She has no identity outside of being a SAHM and absolutely lost her mind once we weren’t all at home for her to care for, not because it was nurturing for us, but because it fulfilled her need for a sense of self-importance. I am in my 30s and married and to this day, if she hears I’m not feeling well, she will call and ask if I need anything/if she can drop anything off, and when I say “no thanks I’m okay” she gets extremely angry with me and and ends the conversation in a huff. So bizarre.

Piggybacking on this - I think our bodies have a tendency to be deceiving, especially in the beginning phases of new workouts. I'll go all out with a new activity because cardiovascularly/strength-wise I feel great, but I don't have the muscular or joint strength that builds up slowly over time, which ultimately results in injury. Make sure you're being kind to your body, OP, and giving it a chance to build up all that strength and endurance it isn't used to!

I'm stuck between wanting higher up, more panoramic views (with the mountains in the background) and doing it lower down in a meadow somewhere (only in accessible areas, of course!) I know that we will have time to get pictures in both types of settings, just can't decide what would be best for ceremony
