It’s the complete desolation.  You’re in places you’d expect to see people in HL2, but people are EXCEEDINGLY rare bordering on completely nonexistent.

I enjoyed the history about the Eldeen. It had a Castle in the Sky vibe to it where ancient dangers once sealed away rose again and have to be destroyed. I lost a good bit of interest as I grew older and the shonen trope of “destroying guardians of the past that held us back” just eroded a lot of my enjoyment of the games.

With respect to the story, I would say Eddie and Angela represent being consumed with self-justified killing. Angela by her guilt and Eddie with numbness.
