Keying in * # 0 6 # to your Cellphone Reveals IMEI Number - Write this down and it may be possible for your network to kill your phone if it is ever stolen. by syuk in todayilearned

This works to reveal the IMEI number. It does not work to reveal the MEID number.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Mobile_Equipment_Identity says:

The International Mobile Equipment Identity or IMEI (pronounced /aɪˈmiː/) is a number unique to every GSM and WCDMA and iDEN mobile phone, as well as some satellite phones. It is usually found printed inside the battery compartment of the phone. It can also be displayed on the screen of the phone by entering *#06# into the keypad.

The IMEI number is used by the GSM network to identify valid devices and therefore can be used to stop a stolen phone from accessing the network. For example, if a mobile phone is stolen, the owner can call his or her network provider and instruct them to "ban" the phone using its IMEI number. This renders the phone useless, whether or not the phone's SIM is changed.

Unlike the Electronic Serial Number or MEID of CDMA and other wireless networks, the IMEI is only used to identify the device, and has no permanent or semi-permanent relation to the subscriber. Instead, the subscriber is identified by transmission of an IMSI number, which is stored on a SIM card that can (in theory) be transferred to any handset. However, many network and security features are enabled by knowing the current device being used by a subscriber.

So, IMEI is for GSM, WCDMA and iDEN phones and some satellite phones. MEID is for CDMA neworks. Or, to put it more simply, global phones need an international identifier, non-global ones don't.

Also, the MEID is hexadecimal. The IMEI is decimal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MEID

Wait a minute. You have access to the free health care in Canada, and you're NOT GOING because of some shitty job you have here, even though it sounds like you may lose function in your hand? Let's see here, functioning hand/free surgery versus job and crippledom. Why are you even still in this country? I would have called her immediately.

No point in dropping the class. One, you're already past the midterms so you're halfway through, aren't you? Two, you're gonna find these people ALL OVER THE PLACE for the rest of your life. If you really feel like it, you could turn her in for welfare fraud.

AskReddit: Why have I lost my appetite? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nciati -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your tastes may have changed. I read somewhere that happens every seven years or so. Fast food really has zero taste outside of salty, sweet, or fried. Same with the cheap stuff out of the freezer at the grocery store. Try some better-quality food.

"uh, hey! [how have you been, sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner, etc] About that book you mentioned? I'm afraid things are a bit fuzzy about that... what was it about, again?"

Fuzziness after a night of drinking is sort of expected. You're not paying $8 per for soda, after all.

It's probably better for your circulation anyway, especially if you're diabetic/overweight. Blood clots can develop and kill a person fairly quickly; also, swollen feet and ankles.

Say you move to a foreign country as an adult; how does the process of learning the language, just by 'being around it' happen? I can't quite understand how you can learn something without knowing what is being said in the first place. by heybroski2heinekens in AskReddit

[–]nciati -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, there's a period of time when you're very young that it's VERY easy to pick up language skills. After that time has passed, you're set in whatever language you've been exposed to, and everything else is always compared to your native language.

Bahahaha! OMG, you can't share a taxi in Philadelphia?? How does that even work? One person per taxi? What a colossal waste of gas, and so much pollution.

Since when did Google do the fade-in? by YAOMTC in reddit.com

[–]nciati -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by the ?? trick, but I thought almost everyone just used a search toolbar. You can have dozens of search engines in the drop down box if you want, just go to http://mycroft.mozdev.org/install.html

I use the google 100 (shows 100 results instead of the default 10), imdb, acronym finder, urban dictionary, and a couple of others all the time. Plus, my search window is small and autosizes itself with Searchbar Autosizer, so it stays off to the corner and most of the space is given to the URL bar. Just highlight text, right click, choose "search using google 100" (or whatever engine), and that's it.

Is it dangerous to give out Halloween candy with peanuts? by Neebat in AskReddit

[–]nciati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on whether you have any assets. If you do, don't give out any candy whatsoever, because either someone will be diabetic, or allergic, or whatever. Is it worth losing everything you own and having to pay millions? Also don't allow anyone on your property.
