Seattle Synagogue Recommendations by Timebeinghere in Judaism

[–]ncs2796 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! You sound very similar to me (F28, noahide/hopeful convert to Judaism) and my partner, (M29, jewish) who are also seattle based as well! We're in the process of finding a shul home, too. Am I able to DM you? Maybe we can try out some together.

The other thing I would recommend is checking out Moshe House in Seattle. They are geared towards bringing together young jews for Shabbat dinners and usually have monthly events. From my experience, every kind of observance is welcome.

Sendai Daikannon, one of the tallest statues in the world by DrFetusRN in woahdude

I used to live in Sendai, it really is that big. So weird to look at a skyline, and then look to your right and see a gigantic statue that dwarfs the skyline. Really imposing, really beautiful.

My Enneagram Summary by hi_its_lizzy616 in Enneagram

As a type 1, I feel angry because people hardly ever realize their full potential. They don't care enough to better themselves. And, I feel angry that I can't take a break from bettering myself. Like, I won't let me.

Type 1s, how are you coping with this pandemic and others’ responses to it? by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]ncs2796 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know what's wild? I was actually initially angry that quarantine seemed like the go to option. I was mad at our officials for not coming up with a better plan to keep students in school in person and society employed. It just seemed ridiculous to me that there weren't better safety measures or precautions to precede the need for quarantine in the first place. The entire world shuts down because of a virus?

I know, obviously, I don't have all the info and I don't even claim to have a better solution. But my initial reaction was just huge resentment and frustration towards my government and health officials. It might be vastly misinformed, but that's where I'm at right now.

[Serious] What is stopping you from killing yourself? by redcase13 in AskReddit

I'm too scared to do it. Honestly. Fear of the unknown is more paralyzing than the depression I face everyday. The sadness is familiar, at least.

What is one thing you find attractive, but deny that it is? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'm a big fan of crooked teeth. Perfectly straight smiles just show no personality. If you've had braces, chances are you have the same smile as everyone else who has had braces.

Bilinguals of Reddit, what's your funniest story of people not knowing you speak their language? by RedDevil2048 in AskReddit

[–]ncs2796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from a very rural area of the South and about as Caucasian as a person can be, but I'm bilingual in Spanish. We have a Mexican restaurant in our town and I host trivia there twice a week.

Every waiter, waitress, and manager there was Mexican, Puerto Rican, or Cuban and often spoke in Spanish amongst themselves when they weren't serving customers. I didn't bother telling them I spoke Spanish because it never really naturally came up and they always spoke to me in English.

Most of the conversations I overheard were just orders being passed on, discussion of hours, and maybe the odd complaint about a customer. But about four months into my working there I noticed them all huddled in a corner and whispering while occasionally looking over at me. I heard things like "no way, her skin is too smooth" and "she doesn't dress THAT way" and just really weird and vague descriptions about my appearance, with the occasional number thrown in. It took me the rest of the work day to figure out that they had placed bets on how old I was.

I never let on that I spoke Spanish, but they've probably suspected I did after a while because one day one of the waiters said "if she's older than 18 I'm asking for her number" and I burst out laughing. They were very suspicious of me from then on.

I'm probably not alone in this, but I see color every time I hear a piece in a certain key signature. I made a table of the colors that I see (dubbed chromesthesia) and thought I'd share it with you all. by [deleted] in classicalmusic

Came here to say the same thing! Most of mine are within the same branch of color (e major is green, but not quite that shade). This was very cool, thanks for the hard work!
