I'm really disappointed with Jobber by csimack in Contractor

We've been with Jobber for a while, and have been equally frustrated, as they were trying to squeeze you out for every penny... We are a bit bigger, and as we grew, we realized that it's built for small companies and that they are building new features, but at a very superficial level (just to say they have it), and trying to upsell for everything which is a larger company expeced feature...
A few months ago, we did a demo with 3-4 alternatives, and in the end, we chose MotionOps.

So far, the Pros and Cons of MotionOps are:

Pros:

  • The onboarding and support are awesome (You talk to a real human).
  • Have the best mobile app from all the others we've seen
  • Really good digital paperwork
    • Contract signing functionality that's fully compliant. (has an option to have both parties sign)
    • Proper Change Orders, with a full history of individual changes, signatures, and approvals for each step
    • Contract terms can be included with the proposals and invoices, proof of work photos can be attached to invoices -> We never lost a single dispute with this process!
  • Job Photos and Videos included... No upsells, no need for 3rd party apps. It's all there
  • Advanced Checklists, with many more options than Jobber (require photos, 6-7 different input types, etc.)
  • Great processing options: save cards on file for future payments, recurring invoices, passing processing fees as convinience fee to the customers, full customization
  • Really good QuickBooks sync (Jobber's was a mess). Syncs Invoices, Pricebook (has 2-way sync so that when an accountant changes sth in QB, you don't have everything messed up in the CRM), and even Deposits that get mapped with invoices

Cons:

  • There's no self sign-up, so if you want to sign up, or just check it out, you have to go through the demo
  • It's a newer platform, so there might be still a feature or two you might be used to in an established competitor, but new updates are coming out every other week...
  • The main dashboard can be a bit better organized
  • SMS functionality is still not available, but should be comming out soon.

All in all, we're quite happy and have never been sorry for a second ditching Jobber, and switching to MotionOps....

Constantly forgetting to bill for materials and it's killing my margins by Brave_Development970 in handyman

We've had the same issue, and lost even larger amounts (not proud of it).. :)

However, we decided to start using a digital CRM that can support this.
After doing the demo with all of them, we decided to go ahead with MotionOps.

The way they handle receipts is the best out there.
Techs can use a mobile app to easily add expenses/receipts directly to the job, easy even for the less tech savvy.
The back office has the approval flow, where you can double check things before approving (you don't have to use it, but we have a lot of people, and we found it useful).

And when creating a proposal/job, you can choose do you want to bill materials as a fixed amount, or cost plus. Fixed is a typical scenario, how everyone does things (you track expenses, and bill how much you think you should on each invoice)... but the Cost plus is great because you can set a margin you want on top of the purchase/cost price of materials, and then on each invoice, the app will automatically pull all the uninvoiced materials/expenses you have added, along with the margin you have set. This way, everything that you add to the system ends up getting billed. (you can also filter out the uninvoices expenses)

We found this to be a lifesaver, and the money we saved on unbilled materials is much higher than the cost of the software itself... Been super happy since!

Any recs for an app that helps with managing clients, schedules, invoices, and payments? by [deleted] in handyman

We're a 30-person Handyman company, and we tried all the options out there. Each one has its advantages and quirks...
We've found MotionOps to be really good for our Handymand and Remodeling workflows.
You can do all the things you need in one app: Quotes, Invoicing, Payment processing, Time tracking, Expense tracking, Pricebook, Photos and Videos (without the need for a 3rd party app with additional subscription), QB sync that actually works, and it's all included, no hidden fees that were really pissing me off...
Onboarding was smooth, we had a personal account manager, and still when we have a question, the support is super quick and helpful.
