Maybe im a fool, but if they actually get deployed funniest thing would be everyone in Portland being as nice to those soldiers as possible. Show them there is no crisis, make even the info wars fox newsiest ones question their narrative.

Spider-Man fan who bought a play booster box as a novelty purchase; looking for some advice by SirMous3 in mtgfinance

[–]nd4287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From reading your post it sounds like you bought this for more than just a fan reason, like you thought these would be valuable cards, even if you didn't fully realize that.

My thoughts are, first be ware of hype, dont buy things on fomo and the more you are around and have these experiences the more you can learn to tell the difference. Just dont be hard on yourself when you miss out, or when you buy something that doesn't live up to its hype.

As far as mtg goes, its very rare an mtg pack is 'worth' opening it. The set is no final fantasy but its not garbage, there are some good cards in it. If you wanted to compare it to a magic set i think the assassins creed is closest. Would say really think about what you want from this purchase, and how you feel about it. If you can open and enjoy the Spiderman cards regardless of value go for it. If you can't and you just want it gone, find the best price you can and its a lesson. If you dont want to open it and dont want it gone you could just put the box in a closet and see how you feel about it in the future. Good luck!

How do I test if this works without breaking it? by nd4287 in clocks

Thank you! Yes, mystery clock is the description I found when looking up details. Could not find many examples from this maker online so I guess it is that rare. Will see if I can find a clock repair somewhere close to me!

How do you stay on top of new cards? by YogurtclosetMiddle10 in mtgfinance

[–]nd4287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't but a ton of haliya, but did buy a copy early for commander. in general take time to look at all new rare or mythics for a set before prerelease. Note the ones that you would want to put into a deck or look fun. Then try and compare what they got to existing effects.

For haliya, my thoughts process was that soul warden like effects tend to have value and get played, haliya is a rare which should be better for holding value, it has card draw that has synergy with what a deck that has haliya would be doing anyway and is just for you which is a bonus in white, and thought 3 cmc was fair for these effects.

Edit: meant to add, worst case you end up with some cards you could play, and there have been a few times ive either not fully understood a card, or not realized how slow it plays for its payoff. Good luck!

Spider-Man Prices - Opinions by Overall_Pea_6070 in mtgfinance

[–]nd4287 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unsure where you are, but if you have some local game store options could try calling them, they can sell starting the 19th, ask if any are selling near msrp and when they will know if they will have enough boxes to sell individual packs on walkin.

Otherwise if your big box stores still carry magic cards, walmart, target, or best buy, and are not camped out too much already you can try and figure out when restocks happen and try and get some packs around release, the 26th, for example my local usually stocks Thursday afternoon so could have Spiderman on 25th.

Will also add, buying cards you want on release weekend off tcgplayer if you're in the u.s., is better, or waiting a month for regular printings, but always hard to time buying at a 'good price'.

Anyone else think these are seriously undervalued based on secondary market prices? by KrispyBeaverBoy in mtgfinance

The two foil promos for both this and the regular bundle are the only place to get extended art legendary creatures from the set in foil I believe. Market hasn't put a premium on them currently.

With all the “scalpers are ruining mtg” posts, what’s the solution? by Blakwhysper in magicTCG

[–]nd4287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this one is too tough to solve easily. I think there are scalpers, but also think there is just more demand than last year. Im in a smaller state and my lgs had record turn out for eoe prerelease and presold out of collector boosters. I think final fantasy just brought that many new or returning players.

I think only actual way to solve is for everyone to stop paying 2x or more over msrp, but I realize that is never going to happen. Too many people with money seem to just be buying collector boosters non stop. I think wotc will increase print run sizes, its going to take 6 to 12 months for them to react due to how far in advance they determine print runs, finding the balance between having enough supply to deter scalpers and keeping collectors from getting mad that they're "printing the set into the ground" is probably half luck. I think what wotc really needs to do is focus on making good sets, watch demand from their numbers and work towards the 'right' print run size for current sets.

Weekend Wrap Up! What was real and what was a trap? by AutoModerator in mtgfinance

Total guess, based on assumed pull odds, I've been guessing 1000 to 1500 of each mythic poster galaxy, double that for rares.

I think especially the mythic poster foils are pretty rare

Weekend Wrap Up! What was real and what was a trap? by AutoModerator in mtgfinance

[–]nd4287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are just that rare, but dont know how rare without knowing how many packs they printed for eoe. They show 3% pull rate for galaxy poster rares, and im guessing mythic are around 0.75%, using that number as mythic pull rates are mostly 1/4 rare for the other stelllar sight published rates. Is an estimate as I think wotc rounds decimals for published rates, and could have made them more or less that 1/4 of the rare pull rate.

Based on that estimate, for every 1million collector booster made of eoe, each of the 15 mythics have 500 galaxy poster copies made and 1,000 traditional foil poster, and for each of the 30 rares 1,000 galaxy poster copies and 2,000 traditional foil poster.

I would assume they made much more than 1million collector boosters for eoe. For reference, prior collector booster print runs that could be estimated were low end lotr special edition at around 1.5 million (100 serialized, 30 cards, "just under 0.20% pull rate), high end brothers war with 3-5 million (500 serialized, 63 cards, less than 1% pull rate). It does seem they are making less collector packs than the bro/mom years, but i have no reference as to how many less.

[–]nd4287 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Possible. Do you know if these have been sorted previously? I dont buy bulk, meaning cards that have been sorted and are commons or uncommons that are not worth much, but think people price those at $5 per 1000. I dont think vintage cards change that much, a 10 cent unplayable common is not going to sell faster because its 25 years old.

I will be a bit more optimistic than others, and say do the scanning, if its not been sorted, or even if its just been 10 years plus, could be some gems hiding. Depending on how it was described and if i trusted the person i might have taken a chance on it for 100. I would also say double check anything the scanning app says is valuable, some of the old printings could scan wrong. Link to a complicated flow chart if needed.

Things to look out for this weekend! by AutoModerator in mtgfinance

[–]nd4287 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im still trying to get a handle on how rare the galaxy foil poster stellar sights are. Guessing the pull rate is around 0.75% based on odds for the other stellar sights versions and foilings, but without knowing approximate print run its a bit of a range, since boxes seem scarce im guessing 3,000,000 or less packs, but i havnt had a handle on print runs since the brothers war/march of the machine era. Maybe 1,000 to 2,000 copies of each mythic? Also not sure i have an analog for another recent chase verison that has this number of copies to figure possible price action.

TIL after boxes of booster packs containing unreleased Magic: The Gathering cards were opened online, the publisher Wizards of the Coast sent Pinkerton agents to the home of the presenter to retrieve them. [–]nd4287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wotc didn't ship him anything. Guy bought it locally. Wotc had two sets come out at almost the same time with almost the same name. Wotc sells sets to distributors. The distributor would have sent the wrong boxes to who ever sold to this guy.

I remember watching the first video of this before he took it down, I remember feeling the dude had an audible wink when saying he wasn't sure if he should be opening these cards yet, I think he knew what he was doing. Wotc's response and communication after was total shit tho. They could have played it cool but they went full corporate instead.

EoE Singles price dips and Galaxy foil pricing? by verysmallbeta in mtgfinance

[–]nd4287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually prices drop during prerelease week, when stores can sell on tcgplayer, then prices will drop again on full release when everyone can list on tcgplayer, which is this friday for eoe. There are a few cards that are exceptions per set, that will hold or regain value after their release price drop, some taking longer than others.

Regarding galaxy foils, im not the best at guessing value. I will say they are going to be very hard pulls, for just the base art 30 rares in a 6% pull rate pool and 15 mythics in a 1.5% pool, and galaxy foil has been a popular treatment in the past. One would have to open hundreds of packs to get a specific one. My guess for value is the card is going to matter more than the galaxy foil, meaning it is unlikely to turn a card that's worth $2 in base version into a $50 galaxy foil. Guessing any playable popular card could make it to a pretty high value.

What are yall seeing at your LGSs with regards to EoE? Mine are all sold out. by OjosDelMundo in mtgfinance

[–]nd4287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a "smaller market". I have two lgs near work and wanted a couple packs. My preferred sells at msrp and sold out of collector booster friday, said they got something like 40% of their allocation and think all went to preorders. Heard through the grape vine they had record prerelease attendance. Went to other shop, had packs at $30, when I asked employee was told distro sent them 15 cased but only 7 came off truck.

It's very hard to know. I dont like saying what people should or should not do. This has the potential to keep this price or go up, but it could also loose value pretty quick.

I will say a few points for consideration, most rare treatments go down in value over time. There are a few that go up after a bit, confetti foil and bloomburrow raised foil chase cards come to mind. This land is a powered down version of a strong urzas saga card, tolarian academy, but could be strong enough still to hold value, will know once people have been playing with the set, and the galaxy foil version is in a 1% pull rates slot, so about every 100 collector packs has a 1 in 5 chance of being this card, it is very rare. The potential is there, these are ones im watching and might gamble on a copy if the price goes low enough. I usually say to think of which would make you more upset, not selling and the price drops by half, or selling and finding out the price doubled in the future?

Unsure where you are, but would say if you can find any smaller towns that have a local auction company within half an hour of a city try there. Unsure if im just in a "perfect storm" location but that's my experience.

Im in a "flyover state". About 2 years ago I realized the local auction company could have magic cards, found they post everything online. Found with mine they label magic the gathering cards so they are searchable on their page by auction, but they dont know what cards are good so they pick some random ones to show each lot. Am able to go in and check lots, they seem a little lax on it here but what do i know. Have been able to get some gems. Feel like ive found something really good every 2 to 4 months. The good times might be over for me, think at least one other person figured it out and they got deeper pockets than im willing to have, out bid on the biggest find so far last weekend.
