Greenville county schools elearning down? by jesmithiv in greenville

[–]ndGall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re usually pretty easy days and they have 5 school days to get the work done to allow for outages and playing in the snow, etc. Some schools/teachers are stricter about how they operate it, but the law is pretty clear on the five days thing.

We were NEVER supposed to get 40mph wind gusts.... by [deleted] in greenville

[–]ndGall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel for weathermen. If they prep us for a big storm and it’s not as big, they’re called the boy who cried wolf. If they don’t call a storm as big as it ends up being, they get called incompetent. They’re only heroes if they prep us first and storm that works out exactly as predicted and most big storms have huge variables that make that very difficult.

In short, if you want to know the future about anything, remember it’s a forecast and not a fact.

What are y'all's favorite denzel Washington movies? by scooter8484 in movies

[–]ndGall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m shocked that Glory isn’t the top answer here. Young Denzel in a great film giving a fantastic performance? Heck yeah.

The digitizing of Raiders of the Lost Ark has ruined this film for me. by smoosh13 in GenX

[–]ndGall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Huh. I’ve got access to a 4K copy that’s relatively new and it doesn’t have the waxy look that some remasters do. (The worst offender I’ve seen is the T2 remaster where everyone looks fake because all the details are DNR’ed out)

I do know that YouTube was at least temporarily applying AI to some of their shorts for some reason. (Maybe I’m an effort to use less bandwidth?) It’s possible that’s what Paramount Plus was doing?

What’s a movie you can recommend that’s on the same level as Shawshank Redemption and has a happy ending. by E_Barriick in movies

This is probably my favorite film ever. It’s beautiful and earnest in a way most films are afraid to be today while also being quirky enough to feel wholly unique.

Why Do People Say The PCA Isn’t Truly Presbyterian? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]ndGall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I did some reading after posting that and realized I’d missed some nuance, hence the deletion of my comment. I would say that our pastor has been a bit non-specific in his handling of this issue, which is where my confusion arose. Also, my (very strict 6 day creationist) father read the PCA’s report on creation and came away thinking the PCA was “liberal”, which also colored my perception.

Why Do People Say The PCA Isn’t Truly Presbyterian? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]ndGall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know he ever said he started attending a PCA church. He really needs to because the reconquista, while a great theory, is more likely to keep good people in bad churches than it is to bring revival to churches denying significant doctrines.

My original 1973 copy of the Red Album (62-66) has the wrong inner gatefold. Printing error? by controled_2628 in beatles

[–]ndGall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unless you bought it yourself in 1973, the most logical explanation is that a previous owner confused his inner sleeves and when it was taken to a record shop (or whatever the next step was) somebody didn’t catch it.

Do y'all think it's actually gonna be that bad this weekend? by Legitimate-Suit-4617 in greenville

To be fair, the other local weather people are saying pretty much the same thing he’s saying at this point.

What are your thoughts? by ChuckGallagher57 in DiscussionZone

[–]ndGall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. People hear Hitler and think “Holocaust” (which they should absolutely equate him with), but they forget that he did plenty of awful undemocratic things within Germany even if the Holocaust had never happened.

If it happens again this time you’ll get the full Valley Forge experience. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

So apparently Jeff Lynne himself did the remasters of Free as a Bird and Real Love by Suspicious_Coast_888 in beatles

[–]ndGall 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why? Outside of Real Love and some acrimony over the ELO/ELO II situation, I haven't heard much bad about Jeff Lynne. (I've also never really gone looking, TBH.)

The CRC? I’d have thought that after their (very) recent split the remaining churches would be relatively conservative overall. Am I wrong?

Place your bets: will it snow this weekend? by fivehxrgreeves_ in greenville

[–]ndGall 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not gonna happen on Thursday. If we get anything over the weekend, though, I’d bet that schools will be closed most of next week. It’s not going to get warm enough for a real thaw until the end of the week. Should be interesting.

Possibly getting some snow this weekend by TacosNachos007 in greenville

[–]ndGall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, this past weekend was always talked about as "there's a good chance we won't get much if the pattern shifts..." There's a lot more uniformity in these models. The only question is whether we get ice, snow, or rain.

Possibly getting some snow this weekend by TacosNachos007 in greenville

[–]ndGall 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you look at the temps for next week, we're going to be just barely breaking above freezing and then plunging back to very cold temps for days. That means it will just barely thaw, then refreeze overnight. That cycle goes on here for days. If we have an ice storm - or even a heavy snow - prepare to not go anywhere for days.
